Hisuian Goodra is a phenomenal special wall on Steel-teams, notably sporting a Water resistance, which is a huge help when it comes to dealing with foes such as Greninja and Primarina. Heavy Slam is an incredible option to allow Hisuian Goodra to provide some offensive pressure, notably hitting Primarina and Flutter Mane. Knock Off allows Hisuian Goodra to remove items from Pokemon that would hope to switch in to take advantage of Hisuian Goodra's passivity, such as Archaludon, Iron Hands, and Clodsire. Dragon Tail pairs excellently with hazard stack oriented Steel-teams, racking up an immense amount of damage throughout the course of a battle, as well as being able to force out setup sweepers such as Galarian Moltres and Gholdengo. Protect is a great option to scout what moves common Choice item users, such as Excadrill, Meowscarada, and Iron Valiant lock themselves into, so a switch can be made accordingly, as well as allowing Hisuian Goodra to recover a bit of HP with Leftovers.
Skarmory is an excellent partner for Hisuian Goodra, as the combination of Spikes, Knock Off, and Dragon Tail make an excellent combination. Skarmory can also switch in on physical moves directed at Hisuian Goodra, such as Close Combat, while Hisuian Goodra can switch in on special moves meant for Skarmory, such as Shadow Ball. Archaludon is another fantastic physical wall to pair with Hisuian Goodra, as defensive sets are able to take on physically oriented attackers that Hisuian Goodra struggles with, such as Ceruledge, Dragonite, and Ogerpon-H. Choice Scarf sets can also surprise and OHKO Fighting-type foes that would otherwise be very troublesome for Hisuian Goodra, such as Urshifu-R with 1 layer of Spikes and Iron Valiant with Thunderbolt and Flash Cannon respectively. Iron Treads is a great partner for Hisuian Goodra, as it can Rapid Spin away hazards to ensure Hisuian Goodra can come in repeatedly. Air Balloon Iron Treads can also come in on Pokemon choice locked into Ground-moves such as Landorus and Mamoswine. Gholdengo aids in ensuring entry hazards stay up, denying both Rapid Spin and Defog, as well as greatly appreciating the damage Hisuian Goodra racks up throughout the course of a battle, making cleaning up at the end of battles easier. Since Hisuian Goodra is neutral to Fire-type attacks, Heatran can opt for a more offensive set, such as Choice Scarf. Hisuian Goodra can use Knock Off to remove items from defensive Pokemon that would like to switch in on Heatran, such as recovery items from Toxapex, Clodsire, and Ting-Lu, making Heatran's job of cleaning up easier.
