[SET COMMENTS]
Set Details
========
- Raging Bolt has phenomenal natural bulk and Special Attack, allowing it to stay on the field while chipping foes, and with priority in Thunderclap, it can finish off low-HP targets. Its potent STAB moves and survivability give it favorable matchups against Kyogre, Urshifu-R, Tornadus, and Koraidon.
- Although Draco Meteor can miss and weakens Raging Bolt's damage output afterwards, it's used for a higher burst of damage, notably OHKOing non-Assault Vest Miraidon and Raging Bolt as well as Tera Dragon Zamazenta-C. Dragon Pulse is more consistent, lacking those drawbacks, but doesn't offer the same immediate power.
- Magnet is the most consistent item since Raging Bolt primarily uses Electric-type STAB moves, which get boosted. Life Orb offers a higher damage increase than Magnet and applies to all moves but reduces survivability. Additionally, both Life Orb and Magnet stack with the power boost from Protosynthesis in sun. Booster Energy provides the same boost as Life Orb without the recoil, but the boost is lost after switching out.
- The Defense investment allows Raging Bolt to live Close Combat from Life Orb Koraidon, Glacial Lance from most Calyrex-I, and almost always live Ice Spinner from Adamant Chien-Pao. The Speed investment enables Raging Bolt to outspeed maximum Speed Koraidon, Chien-Pao, and Miraidon in Tailwind. The rest is put into Special Attack to maximize its damage output.
- Tera Electric is used to boost its Electric-type STAB moves, notably allowing it to score valuable chip damage on Pokemon like Zamazenta-C with Thunderbolt, even putting it in range of a Thunderclap. It also allows Raging Bolt to OHKO Kyogre with Thunderbolt and the Life Orb and Booster Energy variants to almost always 2HKO non-Leftovers Calyrex-I with Thunderbolt. Tera Electric can also help it live Dragon-, Ice-, and Fairy-type moves such as Draco Meteor from non-Choice Specs Miraidon, Icicle Crash from Chien-Pao, and Moonblast from Flutter Mane.
Teambuilding
=========
- Raging Bolt struggles against Chien-Pao, which threatens it with Icicle Crash and Ice Spinner, and it can pick Raging Bolt off with priority Sucker Punch, which outspeeds Thunderclap under normal circumstances.
- Landorus is problematic because it can outspeed and threaten Raging Bolt with Earth Power. Similarly, Ursaluna moves before Raging Bolt under Trick Room and threatens it with Headlong Rush.
- Calyrex-I and Miraidon teams are major threats, as Glacial Lance and Draco Meteor force Raging Bolt to Terastallize. Additionally, Choice Specs Miraidon can OHKO with Draco Meteor even if Raging Bolt Terastallizes.
- Zacian-C threatens to OHKO Raging Bolt with Play Rough, and Iron Treads pressures it with High Horsepower while not taking much damage in return.
- Grimmsnarl's damage mitigation via Light Screen and Spirit Break make it difficult for Raging Bolt to get Pokemon low on HP and finish them off with Thunderclap. Terapagos can tank Raging Bolt's attacks fairly well, especially after setting up with Calm Mind, and it can later pressure with Earth Power. Similarly, Assault Vest Ting-Lu is hard to break; it takes even less from Raging Bolt's Dragon-type moves and can wear it down with Sand Tomb and Snarl.
- Amoonguss and Brute Bonnet can be troublesome for Raging Bolt, as it can't OHKO them and risks being put to sleep by Spore. They can also redirect Raging Bolt's Thunderclap with Rage Powder, preventing it from hitting their partners.
- Koraidon is a great partner for Raging Bolt, boosting its damage output through Protosynthesis in sun. It also helps cover several of Raging Bolt’s problem matchups, threatening Amoonguss and Calyrex-I with Flare Blitz and Ting-Lu and Terapagos with Close Combat or Collision Course. In return, Raging Bolt pressures Kyogre with its Electric-type STAB moves.
- Raging Bolt fits well on Calyrex-S and Zamazenta-C balance teams. Calyrex-S can chip foes into Thunderclap range with Astral Barrage, and Raging Bolt can do the same for Calyrex-S, allowing it to receive Grim Neigh boosts. Zamazenta-C helps against Chien-Pao and Terapagos and can block Glacial Lance from Calyrex-I with Wide Guard. Incineroar's Intimidate and Parting Shot can help Raging Bolt survive some of the aforementioned attacks.
- Rillaboom and Raging Bolt both take hits well and apply priority pressure with Grassy Glide and Thunderclap, respectively. Chien-Pao also synergizes with Raging Bolt by threatening Amoonguss, Brute Bonnet, Miraidon, and Landorus with Icicle Crash or Ice Spinner while also contributing strong priority pressure, making it difficult for foes to attack freely.
