[SET]
Sticky Web Setter (Araquanid) @ Custap Berry / Mental Herb
Ability: Water Bubble
EVs: 252 HP / 28 Atk / 228 Def
Impish Nature
- Liquidation
- Sticky Web
- Endure / Toxic / Pounce / Endeavor
- Endeavor / Pounce / Magic Coat / Endure
[SET COMMENTS]
Araquanid establishes itself as one of the best Sticky Web setters in the tier, finding a niche in the metagame by means of leveraging its wide support movepool to disrupt other leads and ability to threaten one of the best forms of removal in Excadrill. When paired with Custap Berry, endure guarantees the setting of Sticky Webs, even in the face of Mega Aerodactyl and Choice Band Rillaboom threatening an OHKO. Toxic ensures Araquanid cannot be hard walled against Water-type Pokemon, namely Slowbro and Volcanion, which it would otherwise not be able to do damage to. Pounce is another option to slow down faster lead Pokemon for its teammates to exploit. Endeavor pairs nicely with Endure and Custap Berry, putting an opposing Pokemon in range to be picked off by a teammate like Aeigislash and Scizor. Magic Coat turns the tables on opponents attempting to either Taunt Araquanid, preventing Sticky Webs from going up or Pokemon attempting to set up hazards. Mental Herb can be used over Custap Berry to flip the matchup against Taunt users like Mew and Serperior attempting to shut down the usage of Sticky Webs. 252 HP paired with 228 Defense EVs and an Impish nature allow for Araquanid to live an Adamant Tyranitar Stone Edge. Araquanid is best utilized on hyper offense teams, with Sticky Webs facilitating setup sweepers and wall breakers such as Iron Moth, Iron Boulder, Galarian Moltres, and Blacephalon by means of allowing them to outspeed faster opponents and limiting opportunities to revenge kill its teammates. Serperior and Bisharp are great partners, either deterring the usage of defog or exploiting the activation of their respective abilities to start snowballing. Ghost-types like Air Balloon Aegislash and Z Pecharunt work as spinblockers against Excadrill, while Sticky Webs make up for their lackluster speed stats. Mega Aerodactyl and Heavy-Duty Boots Zeraora are immune to Sticky Webs, so checks for them are mandatory, such as Celesteela, Scizor, Booster Energy Speed Iron Crown against Mega Aerodctyl and Serperior, Rillaboom, and Sinistcha for Zeraora.
