[SET]
[Offensive Trick Room] Spiritomb @ Leftovers
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
Tera Type: Dark / Steel
Quiet Nature
- Trick Room
- Nasty Plot
- Dark Pulse
- Psyshock / Tera Blast
[SET COMMENTS]
Spiritomb utilizes its defensive profile to switch into foes like Passimian and Hisuian Sneasel, setting up and devastating teams in a tier almost completely lacking Fairy-type Pokemon. Dark Pulse serves as an amazing neutral STAB attack for a vast majority of the tier, threatening OHKOs on metagame staples like Floatzel and Mesprit after a Nasty Plot boost; it is the preferred STAB over Shadow Ball to avoid letting Normal-type Pokemon like Snorlax and Farigiraf switch in for free. Psyshock compliments Dark Pulse excellently with its ability to hit Fighting-types like Poliwrath and Virizion while targeting opposing special walls like Snorlax and Lanturn on their comparatively worse Defense. Alternatively, Tera Blast Steel targets Dark-types like Sableye and Mabosstiff alongside Fairy-types like Whimsicott and Tera Fairy Mesprit. Tera Dark further amplifies the power of Spiritomb's Dark Pulse to OHKO as many foes as possible once boosted, securing guaranteed OHKO's on foes like Rotom-C and Charizard, while Tera Steel allows for the usage of Tera Blast as well as shoring up Spiritomb's Fairy weakness.
Spiritomb works well alongside wallbreakers like Virizion, Glastrier, and Hisuian Sneasel, who can break for each other and enable Spiritomb's sweep. Spiritomb struggles with strong physical attacks from the likes of Mabosstiff and Sneasel, so it appreciates physical walls like Regirock and Weezing who can reliably switch into them. Special attackers like Jolteon, Vikavolt, and Mesprit pair well with Spiritomb to break down walls for each other. Teammates with pivoting moves like Rotom-C, Floatzel, Jolteon, and Passimian can help bring Spiritomb in safely to help ease its setup. Hazard support from the likes of Regirock, Sandslash, and Mesprit is also greatly appreciated to help whittle foes into range for Spiritomb to sweep. Pokemon that can threaten opposing Whimsicott like Muk and Magneton are appreciated to help cover for Spiritomb's lone weakness to Fairy.

Other Options
=============
Physically offensive and mixed variants of Spiritomb can be used due to its access to Sucker Punch and Poltergeist, but there are far better options for physically offensive Dark-types like Mabosstiff and Sneasel who boast superior Attack and Speed stats. Spiritomb can opt to use Pain Split or Will-O-Wisp instead of Psyshock on Offensive Trick Room in order to improve its survivability and potentially ease setup at a heavy cost to its coverage, losing out on key targets like Virizion and Poliwrath. Calm Mind can be opted for as the setup move of choice, but the lack of immediate power that Nasty Plot gives is quite noticeable and Spiritomb often needs multiple Calm Mind boosts to sweep teams.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Dark-types**: Offensive Dark-type foes like Mabosstiff and Sneasel resist Spiritomb's STAB Dark Pulse and retaliate with excellent damage themselves, though they must be wary of physically defensive variants that can debilitate them with Will-O-Wisp.
**Fairy-types**: As the tier's best Fairy-type Pokemon, Whimsicott can take on Spiritomb's boosted attacks and can threaten heavy damage with Moonblast. Tera Fairy walls like Mesprit, Snorlax, and Dipplin can resist Spiritomb's STAB Dark Pulse to stop its sweep or further their own setup.
**Wallbreakers**: Spiritomb's lackluster natural bulk can be easily preyed upon by wallbreakers like Floatzel, Jolteon, and Vikavolt regardless of what set it's running, though they must be careful when switching in.
**Encore**: While it is immune to Prankster Encore from the likes of Whimsicott and Sableye, Spiritomb must be wary of potential Encore from other foes like Mesprit, Beartic, and non-Prankster variants of the previously mentioned Whimsicott.
**Special Walls**: Specially defensive walls like Cryogonal and Articuno can Haze away Spiritomb's Nasty Plot boosts; in addition, Articuno can also phase Spiritomb with Roar.
