Draft Stonewall (Regirock) [DONE]

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 7 onwards

**Price Range**: 3-4 points

**Overview**: Regirock aims to be a stonewall in all its meaning with its titanic physical bulk and serviceable stat distribution. It also seems appealing as a potential setup sweeper with Iron Defense and Body Press while also having the option to set Stealth Rock for its teammates. Furthermore, compared to other low-price physical walls, Regirock doesn't have as many exploitable weaknesses and can help teams that need a Pokemon that can resist Flying- and Fire-type attacks to good effect. However, Regirock is slow, has no reliable recovery, is prone to disruption, and often cannot deal with foes targeting its weaker Special Defense, which holds it back.

Common Roles
========
**Physical Tank**: Regirock can sit on physical attackers thanks to Iron Defense and support its team with Stealth Rock or Thunder Wave. Furthermore, it can use Body Press to remain threatening and punish attempts to set up on it.

**Bulky Setup Sweeper**: With Iron Defense or Curse, Regirock aims to strengthen its offenses alongside its defenses and break down a weakened team with its acceptable coverage options. With Rest, it can potentially set up multiple times and become even scarier and harder to eliminate.

**Lead**: Thanks to Sturdy, Regirock has the tools to be a decent Stealth Rock lead that aims to damage its foe as much as possible before using Explosion to clear the path for a teammate.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Rock Slide, Stone Edge

**Setup Moves**: Curse, Iron Defense

**Utility Moves**: Brick Break, Protect, Rest, Rock Tomb, Stealth Rock, Thunder Wave

**Coverage**: Body Press, Drain Punch, Earthquake, Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Heavy Slam, Hammer Arm, Iron Head

Niche Moves
========
**Sleep Talk**: When Regirock doesn't really need more than a single attacking move or two, Rest can be paired alongside Sleep Talk to provide Regirock greater longevity and protection from status at the cost of being more vulnerable to disruption.

**Explosion**: On lead sets with Sturdy, Regirock can elect to use Explosion when paired with a Custap Berry in order to clear the field after setting Stealth Rock in order to avoid losing momentum or prevent entry hazard removal.

Common Items
========
**Leftovers**: Often the best item for Regirock, as it provides extra longevity for it while it boosts itself with either Curse or Iron Defense.

**Sitrus Berry**: This gives Regirock a one-time boost to its health after tanking a crucial hit from a foe.

**Rocky Helmet**: Regirock can take advantage of its physical bulk and punish contact moves such as U-turn with Rocky Helmet.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Regirock can use Heavy-Duty Boots in order to guarantee that Sturdy remains active even if entry hazards have been laid on the field. This can be useful in scenarios where Regirock acts as a revenge killer by tanking one hit and retaliating back.

Niche Items
========

**Custap Berry**: On lead sets with Sturdy, Custap Berry can give Regirock a one-turn priority boost to either use Stealth Rock, click one of its main attacks, or clear the field with Explosion.

**Chesto Berry**: If Regirock only plans on healing once, Chesto Berry can be paired with Rest to return to full health after setting itself up or taking a lot of damage from repeated switches.

**Choice Band**: Regirock has the tools to be a decent Choice Band user that wants immediate attacking power in order to be more threatening.

**Mental Herb**: This serves as a one-turn protection from Taunt or Encore and can give Regirock the crucial setup turn it wants. Furthermore, Mental Herb can allow Regirock to use Thunder Wave or Stealth Rock on lead sets safely.

**Weakness Policy**: Regirock can take advantage of its common weaknesses and hit back hard with Weakness Policy, especially after an Iron Defense, at which point it can become hard to take down as it secures a trade.

**Resistance Berries**: Regirock can use resistance Berries such as Passho Berry, Rindo Berry, and Chople Berry in order to get a crucial turn of setup or avoid being eliminated, especially by a strong special attack.

Tera
========
Regirock isn't a great Terastallization option in most games due to its low Speed and lack of immediate power. However, if you do decide to make Regirock a Tera Captain, it can use Tera Fighting to make Body Press a STAB attack and crucially remove the common weaknesses Rock-types are known for. It can also take advantage of other types like Tera Fairy to resist types that would usually hit it for super effective damage and make setup sets stronger by boosting its defensive profile.

Draft Strategy
========
Regirock can find itself fitting onto balance teams that appreciate its decent defensive profile as well as on certain bulky offense teams that can capitalize on it being either a setup sweeper or a suicide lead that starts the game off strong. Teams that are short on Stealth Rock setters and lack good Fire- and Flying-resistant Pokemon can also benefit from its presence.

**Special Walls**: Regirock has great physical bulk but is vulnerable to many common special attacks, so pairing it with a strong defensive backbone goes a long way to getting the most out of it. Galarian Slowking, Clodsire, and Latias can go a long way to helping it out defensively. It also greatly enjoys Wish support to get extra longevity, so Jirachi, Alomomola, and Clefable can make good partners.

**Ghost-types**: If Regirock is going to be used to set Stealth Rock, it greatly appreciates the presence of a Ghost-type in order to prevent spinblocking. Pokemon such as Annihilape, both Basculegion formes, and Gengar can make good partners, as they also pack immunities to the Fighting-type attacks that are aimed at Regirock.

**Slow Wallbreakers** Regirock's ability to click Thunder Wave and Stealth Rock can be greatly beneficial for strong but slower wallbreakers on the teams it finds itself on. This would include Pokemon such as Great Tusk, Ursaluna, and Gholdengo.

Checks and Counters
========
**Strong Special Attackers**: Regirock is commonly preyed upon by strong special attackers that will bypass its physical bulk. Pokemon such as Greninja, Landorus, and Keldeo can threaten it out with super effective coverage. However, these Pokemon need to break Sturdy first in order to secure a KO.

**Disruption**: Regirock's poor Speed allows Taunt and Encore to shut it down hard before it can get going and then be picked off by a teammate. Phazing is similarly effective at shutting down sets with Iron Defense, as is Pokemon with Haze.

**Chip Damage**: Regirock's lack of reliable recovery means that entry hazards such as Spikes and Toxic Spikes will cause it to be worn down as it switches in and out of battle repeatedly. Furthermore, even weak physical hits will add up over time and make Regirock more prone to being overwhelmed.

Furthermore, compared to other low price physical walls Regirock doesn't have as many exploitable weaknesses and can help teams that need a Pokemon that can resist Flying and Fire types to good effect. However, Regirock is slow, has no reliable recovery, prone to disruption and its typing tends to let it down more than it helps since it's weak to common types that can attack on its often cannot deal with foes targeting its weaker special defense side, including Water and Grass. Regirock is acceptable but has enough drawbacks to prevent it from being ranked higher.
it struggles against all special attackers - not just grass/water types
last sentence is fluff

Common Roles
========
**Physical Tank**: Breaking Regirock on the physical side can be as daunting as trying to move a real life boulder. After an Iron Defense, Regirock can sit on Pokemon that don’t have the means to defeat it physical attackers and support its team with Stealth Rock or Thunder Wave. Furthermore, it can use Body Press to remain threatening and punish attempts to set up on it.
removed mention of iron defense to differentiate sets

**Bulky Set Up Sweeper**: With Iron Defense or Curse Regirock aims to strengthen its offenses alongside its defenses and break down a weakened team with its acceptable coverage options. Furthermore, thanks to Clear Body it is immune to Intimidate and it has the sturdiness to often set up multiple times in the right match up.

**Sacrificial Lead**: Thanks to Sturdy, Regirock has the tools to be a decent Stealth Rock lead that aims to damage its opponent as much as possible before using Explosion to clear the path for a teammate.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Rock Slide, Stone Edge

**Setup Moves**: Curse, Iron Defense

**Utility Moves**: Brick Break, Rock Tomb, Stealth Rock, Substitute, Sunny Day, Thunder Wave

**Coverage**: Body Press, Drain Punch, Earthquake, Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Heavy Slam, Hammer Arm, Iron Head, Tera Blast

Niche Moves
========
**Rest**: Rest can serve as a one-time recovery move for Regirock when paired with a Chesto Berry in order to return to full HP, especially useful if it managed to use Iron Defense or Curse beforehand.
should probably mention sleep talk as an option with rest but why its generally worse

**Smack Down**: Regirock can punish foes such as Bronzong and Corviknight with Smack Down to remove their immunity to ground and hit them hard with Earthquake.

**Explosion**: On lead sets with Sturdy, Regirock can elect to use Explosion when paired with a Custap Berry in order to clear the field after setting Stealth Rock in order to avoid losing momentum.

(repeat as necessary)
Common Items
========
**Leftovers**: The best item for Regirock as it provides extra longevity for it as it boosts itself with either Curse or Iron Defense.

**Sitrus Berry**: This helps Regirock get a one time boost to its health after tanking a crucial hit from an opponent.

add rocky helmet

**Lum Berry**: This will give Regirock a one-turn protection from status conditions that aim to shut Regirock down.
just worse than resto chesto the large majority of the time

(repeat as necessary)
Niche Items
========
**Choice Band**: Regirock has the tools to be a decent Choice Band user that wants immediate attacking power in order to be more immediately threatening.

**Custap Berry**: On Lead sets with Sturdy, Custap Berry can be used as a one-turn priority move that can either use Stealth Rock, click one of its main attacks or clear the field with Explosion.

**Chesto Berry**: Regirock can pair Chesto Berry with Rest in order to restore itself to full health after setting itself up or taking a lot of damage from repeated switch ins.

**Mental Herb**: This serves as a one-turn protection from Taunt or Encore and can give Regirock the crucial set up turn it wants.
also mention its good on lead sets

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Regirock can use Heavy-Duty Boots in order to guarantee that Sturdy remains active even if hazards have been laid on the field. This can be useful in scenarios where Regirock acts as a revenge killer by tanking one hit and retaliating back.
move to common

**Weakness Policy**: Regirock can take advantage of its common weaknesses and hit back hard with Weakness Policy, especially after an Iron Defense at which point it can become hard to take down as it secures a trade.

(repeat as necessary)
Tera
========
Regirock is a strange choice for a Tera Captain. On one hand, it’s very slow, prone to disruption and will often be outclassed by a superior captain due to its only decent attack. However, if you do decide to make Regirock a Tera captain it can become a Fighting type use Tera Fighting in order to make Body Press a STAB attack and crucially removes the common weaknesses Rock-types are known for. It can also take advantage of numerous other types like Tera Fairy to resist types that would usually hit it for super effective damage make itself either stronger offensively or defensively.
first 2 sentences are not really necessary - just add a single sentence that says its not a great choice for a secondary captain

========
Regirock can find itself fitting onto balance teams that appreciate its decent defensive profile as well as on certain bulky offense teams that can capitalize on it being either a set up sweeper or a suicide lead that starts the game off strong.

**Special Walls**: Regirock may have great physical bulk but is vulnerable to many common special attacks, so pairing it with a strong defensive backbone goes a long way to giving the most out of it. could add wallbreakers that like things being paralyzed/hazards being up

Checks and Counters
========

Pokemon such as Greninja, Landorus and Keldeo can threaten it out with super effective coverage. However, these Pokemon need to break Sturdy first in order to secure a KO.

Furthermore, thanks to Clear Body it is immune to Intimidate and it has the sturdiness to often set up multiple times in the right match up. (not super relevant- there aren't many common intimidate users and regirock loses to a good number of them. lack of recovery means its rarely going to find multiple chances to set up as well. I'd mention rest here as an option to really let it sweep and give it a chance to set up multiple times)

**Lead**: Thanks to Sturdy, Regirock has the tools to be a decent Stealth Rock lead that aims to damage its opponent as much as possible before using Explosion to clear the path for a teammate.

Common Moves

Niche Moves
========
**Rest**: Rest can serve as a one-time recovery move for Regirock when paired with a Chesto Berry in order to return to full HP, especially useful if it managed to use Iron Defense or Curse beforehand. It can also run Sleep Talk for extra longevity, though this is prone to disruption and cuts into its movepool. (Move to common and you can talk about it in the setup sweeper and chesto berry sections. You can add sleep talk to niche)

**Smack Down**: Regirock can punish foes such as Bronzong and Corviknight with Smack Down to remove their immunity to ground and hit them hard with Earthquake. (too niche, if you really want regirock to 1v1 bronzong or corv for some reason you can just use curse + fire punch or just twave them and switch out)

**Explosion**: On lead sets with Sturdy, Regirock can elect to use Explosion when paired with a Custap Berry in order to clear the field after setting Stealth Rock in order to avoid losing momentum.

(repeat as necessary)

Tera
========
Regirock isn't a great choice for a secondary Tera captain Tera option in most games due to its low speed and lack of immediate power. However, if you do decide to make Regirock a Tera captain it can use Tera Fighting to make Body Press a STAB attack and crucially remove the common weaknesses Rock-types are known for. It can also take advantage of other types like Tera Fairy to resist types that would usually hit it for super effective damage. (mention that curse/id sets get stronger with tera)

Draft Strategy

========
Regirock can find itself fitting onto balance teams that appreciate its decent defensive profile as well as on certain bulky offense teams that can capitalize on it being either a set up sweeper or a suicide lead that starts the game off strong. (say it fits best on teams that lack fire/fly resistances and dont have many stealth rock setters)
