Published [1v1] Alolan Ninetales

note to qc / whatever (this is not part of the spotlight) - this was changed from 40 SpA to 40 Def

Ninetales-Alola @ Leftovers
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 216 HP / 40 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Moonblast
- Protect
- Disable
- Encore

You might struggle to defeat Alolan Ninetales! Thanks to its fairly unique combination of Encore and Disable, its good Speed tier, and the new mechanic changes to snow, Alolan Ninetales can consistently force foes to use Struggle repeatedly. In most circumstances, Alolan Ninetales should use Protect on the first turn. Against common Choice item holders like Hoopa-U, using Disable immediately afterward locks the foe into Struggle. Against foes which fail to OHKO it, Alolan Ninetales can use Encore, followed by Disable on the final turn of the Encore, before using Encore again the turn after. For example, it might use Protect, Encore, Protect, Disable, and then Encore. Either way, Alolan Ninetales can use Moonblast after locking the foe into Struggle. The EV spread ensures that it survives a Hyper Beam from standard Sylveon while maximizing its physical bulk and Speed. Alolan Ninetales is vulnerable to strong, non-Choice item attackers with super effective moves like Skeledirge and Metagross and faster Pokemon like Serperior. Pair it with strong Fire- and Dragon-type Pokemon like Ogerpon-H, Archaludon, and Gouging Fire to help take down Steel- and Fire-type foes!

You might struggle to defeat Alolan Ninetales! (add a sentence about how Snow buffed its defense this generation). Using a combination of Encore and Disable, it forces opponents into using Struggle repeatedly, dealing heavy damage through recoil. In most circumstances, the Alolan Ninetales user should use Protect on the first turn. Moonblast should instead be clicked turn 1 against Urshifu-S. (covered by the most circumstances part, intuitive) Against common Choice item holders like Hoopa-U, disabling immediately afterward locks the opponent into Struggle. Against other opponents which fail to knock it out in one hit, the Alolan Ninetales can use Encore, followed by Disable on the final turn of the Encore, before using Encore again the turn after. For example, you might use Protect, Encore, Protect, Disable, and then Encore. Either way, the Alolan Ninetales can use Moonblast after locking the opponent into Struggle (try to include a replay with Leftovers, like https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen91v1-2067334974). The EV spread ensures that it survives a Hyper Beam from non-Choice Specs standard (Life Orb also OHKOs) Sylveon while maximizing its physical bulk and speed. Alolan Ninetales is vulnerable to strong, non-Choice item attackers with super effective moves, like Skeledirge and opponents with priority moves like Metagross, and faster Pokemon like Serperior. Pair it with a bulky attacker like Regidrago to take care of frail opponents! strong Fire and Dragon-type Pokemon like Ogerpon-Hearthflame, Archaludon, and Gouging Fire (to cover Steel and Fire types for best results, in your words)
