With unique access to both Sticky Web and Stealth Rock and greater bulk over its competition, Shuckle is a decent dedicated lead in hyper offense builds. After ideally getting up both Sticky Web and Stealth Rock, Shuckle can use Final Gambit to prevent Defog and Rapid Spin at the cost of sacrificing itself. Encore deters setup sweepers like Klinklang, Gurdurr, and Silvally formes from boosting in front of it, as well as punishing Defog and Rapid Spin attempts from Pokemon like Articuno, Coalossal, and Morpeko. Sturdy ensures Shuckle will survive at least one hit to set up a hazard. Mental Herb ensures Shuckle can set up at least one entry hazard in front of Taunt users like Froslass and Alolan Persian, while Red Card can disrupt attackers like Sawk, Rhydon, and Poliwrath seeking to limit it to one hazard, as well as setup attackers, thanks to Sturdy.
Shuckle best fits on hyper offense builds, where teammates can best capitalize on Sticky Web's Speed drop. Setup sweepers like Silvally formes, Qwilfish, and Klinklang fit well with it, working together to overwhelm the opposition. Ghost-types like Rotom and Froslass can prevent Rapid Spin while maintaining pressure in their own right; the former can set up with Nasty Plot, while the latter can set Spikes while stopping Defog users with Taunt. Powerful wallbreakers like Sawk and Jynx enjoy Sticky Web and can immediately pressure the opposing team without need for setup. Offensive threats that can threaten Levitate and Defog users, like the aforementioned Rotom, Silvally-Dark, Klinklang, and Lycanroc-N, work well to maintain entry hazard pressure.

Knock Off and Toxic give Shuckle additional utility and can disrupt hazard removers, though these moves are harder to fit given the utility of Encore and Final Gambit.
Checks and Counters

**Entry Hazard Counterplay**: Defog and Rapid Spin users like Articuno, Cramorant, Coalossal, and Morpeko can switch into Shuckle without too much trouble and remove its entry hazards, though none of them appreciate Encore. Hattrem's Magic Bounce prevents Shuckle from doing anything until it is removed from the battle. Furthermore, while Shuckle is nearly guaranteed to set up one hazard, Taunt and Encore from Pokemon like Skuntank, Froslass, Sableye, and Uxie prevent it from laying down a second one.
**Strong Attackers**: A lot of offensive Pokemon can 2HKO Shuckle and limit it to one entry hazard: examples include Klinklang, Rhydon, and Choice Specs Poliwrath. However, Red Card can disrupt them and can send a less powerful foe out, giving Shuckle room to get up both entry hazards.
