Hi
, it is Sebas and this is my first rmt of the 9 gen. Even tho I have reached high ladder several times with my own teams, none seemed as solid as this one is, so I am posting with the hope of encouraging people to try more sun teams. I was not having good results lately, even dropped my ou points to 1500 and got something close to a 72% GXE, which are both extremely low for what I am used to, but I was not feeling comfortable in the actual tier until I built this team. Then everything went well. I can say that this team carried me from 1500 to 2000+ with a win rate above 90% more or less ( my GXE went from 71% to 79% ). I am posting this not to Flex, but for teambuilding advise because I would like this team to be as solid as possible.
Let's go with the building process:
Ninetales with the basic smogon set because it feels perfect, I just changed weather ball for flamethrower because it felt better and more reliable. We are chosing ninetales over torkoal because it is faster, has fast wow and encore, which helps a lot vs some kyurem sets and ofc vs gambit.
Queen (Ninetales) (F) @ Heat Rock
Ability: Drought
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Encore
- Healing Wish
- Will-O-Wisp
Tera grass helps vs tusk and now vs palafin, but take into account that hitting wisp is a nightmare, and can easily make you lose your games. This team is really cruel when it comes to misses. Most of the time if you miss, you lose.
Irene (Hatterene) @ Eject Button
Ability: Magic Bounce
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 124 Def / 132 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Healing Wish
- Psyshock
- Draining Kiss
- Calm Mind
This Hattenere set works perfectly for the team, it has proved to work pretty well. It is a basic speedy support hat, but with cm over nuzzle. This allows you to perform better as a sweeper vs fat teams when needed, but most of the time this pkm will just perform as your hazzard counter + pivot + healing wish user.
Aphelios (Walking Wake) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Steam
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Dragon Pulse
This was initially timid ww, but after failing to ko Slowking-G and 2hko blissey, I made it modest, and I T J U S T W O R K S. I don't even know why this is not a thing yet. This can 3 hko water tera ting lu under sun lol. Pure breaking power that makes balance or stall look like a joke. Double dragon stab because I HATE USING MOVES THAT MISS, but I have to use DM sometimes, so DP is there just for safe dragon type dmg. If you are not afraid of missing, flip turn, knock off and even scald are there.
Madara (Roaring Moon) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Protosynthesis
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 32 HP / 220 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- U-turn
- Earthquake
The main speed control of the team. Extremely fast under sun, and a really bulky pivot thanks to AV on the special side. It not only has a great surprise factor, but it is also solid overall. Tera steel heps vs iron valiant, that usually enters the battle in your knock off thinking you are banded, and then you tera + iron head to kill it. AV destroys pkm such as Raging bolt (tera needed) and iron moth, 2 pkm that are pretty problematic for sun. This was my best invention, the way it worked was a huge surprise, the perfect offensive pivot the team needed.
Don (Great Tusk) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Protosynthesis
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Headlong Rush
- Ice Spinner
- Rapid Spin
- Temper Flare
The hazzard removal of the team. You just rapid spin vs ghold switch in, if it happens and you miss, temper flare kills. It works well vs corv too. Rocky helmet is by far its best item and will make you win a lot of games. Tera steel helps vs dnite, if it tries to ice spinner or tera normal xspeed you, then tera steel + ice spinner or headlong will be enough. When dnite is in the enemy team, this is your main answer, don't let the enemy team weaken him.
Great Neck (Raging Bolt) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 20 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Draco Meteor
- Thunderbolt
- Weather Ball
The last addition. Innitially, I tested many chlorophyll sweepers, specially Scovillain with some succes, but it misses Fire blast and I hated that, + it was not bulky enough. Zamazenta was another problem for the team, as well as kyurem, so this pokemon with Scarf helps a lot vs both. He is also great into palafin.
Main Threats
Your main threats is and Will always be hax. If you miss a Draco meteor, you Will probably lose. If the pivot that was supposed to take a hit and attack dies to a crit, you lose. If wisp misses vs a roaring moon/dnite/kyurem dd, you lose. There is not much you can do, and this Will happen a lot.
Especially tera ground dragon dance with some bulk. Vs this, don't let him set up for free, always attack no matter what you have, then try to revenge kill it with tusk before it is too late. Remember, do not get into a possition in which this pkm can freely DD ( be careful with the use of raging bolt specially vs this pokemon.
The different options this pkm has make him a huge threat. Tusk can take him down most of the time but this will not always happen. Tera steel moon or fairy RB can help, but this pkm will almost always burn your tera. It is totally worth it tho. Bulky roost sets seem to he unbeatable sometimes, accepting feedback for minor changes in order to Beat this. I thought about CC tusk instead of ice spinner or headlong but idk or
Once you figure out the set, it becomes easier. This pokemon has many ways to be stopped by this team, and many ways to beat it aswell, it all depends on its set, you just have to quickly react to it. The worst one possible is DD or scale shot + special attacker. Modest WW ties with this pkm. In some cases you will have to rely on luck vs it.
Since we lack priority, this pokemon can be a huge problem. The game I needed to win to get rank 1 was lost vs this pkm when RB missed a DM, allowing him to SD, and since he had a Focus sash that was extremely problematic. Some sets can destroy the team if not taken seriously.

Conclusion
Feel free to change items and sets, even pokemon, test with this and make it your own team if you want, and then tell me how it went for you. This team needs risky plays + a good tempo control, you cannot waste a turn. Don't always make your safest play. Games will be short, try to play around your pivots to put WW into the field early to start breaking. And the most important part, enjoy playing with the team.
That is all, thanks for your attention, sorry for my bad english (I am Spanish) and I hope this team brings more sun to the tier.
