Overview

• Torrent gives it an incredible 1.5x boost for its Hydro Vortex
• A great typing both defensively, and offensively coupled with great bulk allow Primarina to sponge hits from many top tier threats such as Mega Gyarados, Kyurem-Black, Mega Charizard-Y, and sometimes even Porygon-Z.
• Access to coverage with moves like Psychic, Hidden Power Fire, and Sparkling Aria allowing it to beat Mega Venusaur, Ferrothorn, and Pokemon that use Substitute such as Landorus-I/T, and Mega Charizard-X respectively.
• Primarina also has priority in Aqua Jet which can allow it to beat Pokemon that can take a Hydro Vortex, mainly pesky sturdies such as Crustle, and Donphan.
• Poor speed makes it forced to run bulk, and makes it susceptible to Smeargle, unlike Tapu Fini which can block Spore via Misty Terrain.

Moves

• Hydro cannon is used as main stab and hits really hard, base 200 water move and the stab boost
• z crystal doesn't force you to recharge so you can still use aqua jet vs things like
• Aqua Jet is used as Primarina's priority move which is essential for this set to work, as with Aqua Jet after using Hydro Vortex say vs Crustle, and they Shell Smash instead of dying to Rock Wrecker the next turn you outspeed and KO it with Aqua Jet.
• Moonblast is another key part of this set. With Fairy STAB Primarina can beat one of the biggest threats in the tier, Mega Gyarados which could previously walk all over Primarina if it was lacking Fairy STAB.
• Psychic is hitting Mega Venusaur really hard and can let you beat it if you can manage to crit
• HP Fire is here mainly for Ferrothorn so you can beat Steelium Z variants
• Toxic is for hitting Deoxys-D if they decide to cosmic power right away fearing the Hydro Vortex

Set Details

• 196 HP is to live solar beam from Charizard-Y
• 152 Defense is to live Fusion Bolt from Kyurem-Black
• Rest is dumped into Special Attack to hit things harder and can be useful vs things like Jirachi if they're iron heading you if you manage to break out you can hit it much harder with hydro vortex, and also hits ferrothorn and mega gyarados much harder

Usage Tips

• Send Primarina in vs things that can't OHKO it, like Charizard-Y, or Mega Gyarados
• Use Primarina to scare off Mega Gyarados Kyurem-Black Charizard-Y letting you win with teammates such as Sturdies
• In most cases you want to use your Z move turn 1 vs anything that isn't Kyurem-Black of or gyarados
