Ʊ~The Sea of Monsters~Ʊ

Hello Everybody! This is my first RMT so pardon any trespasses I may make and harshly criticize me!

So when I was initially making this team I wanted to make a team using Jellicent, because a previous team of mine got walled to the River's Styx and back. So I wanted to make my greatest weakness my greatest strength. So I took the immense whirlpool creator that is Jellicent and made what may be my very best UU team since I've started playing the game.

THE TEAM:
goodra_by_dashinghero-d6zpa5k.png

Landon (Goodra) (F) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpA
Mild Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Rock Slide > Power Whip
- Thunderbolt
- Fire Blast

"This very friendly Dragon-type Pokémon will hug its beloved Trainer, leaving that Trainer covered in sticky slime."
-X Pokedex

There really isn't a Greek Monster that matches the adorable Goodra... so I went with Landon.
I had made this team when Volcarona was still in UU on top of all the special threats Landon serves as a catch all specially defensive tank. The 8 Attack EVs were to guarantee a OHKO against non defensive Volcarona with Rock Slide, and now they're used to smack incoming Swamperts on the switch in for good damage. Draco Meteor is the go to stab that hits hard, Thunderbolt is for smacking Mega Blastoise and other bulky waters not named Suicune who can set up in Landon's face all day. And Fire Blast smacks Shaymin, Fortress and Roserade as well as Steel Types looking to switch in on a predicted Dragon Type move. On top of that it stops Raikou, Slowbro, (Special) Infernape, Psyshockless Alakazam, (Special) Lucario, Azelf, Roserade, Porygon-Z, Shaymin, Vivilon, and Starmie. All A- Rank or Higher threats. If I need someone to take a special hit this is my go to dragon.
nidoqueen.jpg

Echidna (Nidoqueen) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 100 HP / 252 SpA / 156 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock

"It uses its scaly, rugged body to seal the entrance of its nest and protect its young from predators."
-X Pokedex
Echidna, Mother of all Monsters, definitley has the power to protect her young.

I needed a Stealth Rocker but I wanted a more Offensive one so I went with Hectae. Rocks ensure that Victini, Honchcrow, Tornadus (sort of), Vivilon, Staraptor (at the time), Darmanitan, and Volt-Turn teams are on a timer which definitley eass the pressure off of other mons. EVs outspeed uninvested base 90s (Arcanine, Roserade, and anything slower). STAB, Sheer Force, Life Orb boosted Earth Power and Sludge Wave are disgustingly powerful on this Pokemon, 2HKOing Florges with Sludge Wave is a God(dess)send and it functions as a brilliant wallbreaker as only Blissey, Umbreon, Snorlax, Goodra and especially Bronzong can safely switch in, and I have answers to those. Ice Beam hits those pesky, Grass, Dragon, Ground, and Flying types, especially Gligar.
toxicroak_Post_Your_Pokemon_Team-s1920x1080-120239.jpg

Demi (Toxicroak) (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 236 HP / 252 Atk / 20 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Poison Jab
- Sucker Punch
- Bulk Up

Swaying and dodging the attacks of its foes, it weaves its flexible body in close, then lunges out with its poisonous claws.
-HeartGold/SoulSilver Pokedex

What's a Sea of monsters without a DemiGod in the mix? Demi, like it's namesake is used to finish everybody off.

You know what scares me? Suicune. Suicune terrifies me, my team is called the Sea of Monsters and Suicune literally tramples over water, and that is the reason this guy is on my team as opposed to Lucario or Infernape. This Guy sets up all over Crocune because that classic set can't touch it.

The speed EVs are to Outspeed non invested Rotom Heat Which can't Kill me with an uninvsted Overheat and more importantly it's for outspeeding other uninvested base 85s. Drain Punch helps with longevity and is a nice STAB option. Poison Jab is for those darn Fairy types, Florges and Aromatiesse as well as a slightly more powerful STAB and much more reliable than Gunk Shot because I usually can't afford to miss the Poison type move, Sucker Punch is for priority and mind games and Bulk Up is to start a sweep, chosen over Swords Dance because I prefer the more Bulky Approach, it also beats Swords Dance Toxicroak one on one. I need to weaken all walls before this guy comes in and especially any will-o-wisp users. But this also does a good job of stopping most Mienshao and Heracross from wrecking my team too much.
diamond-tophat-s-for-metagross-208755.jpg

Talos (Metagross) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Clear Body
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 212 HP / 252 Atk / 44 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Bullet Punch
- Ice Punch > Thunder Punch > Pursuit > Grass Knot
- Earthquake

"When hunting, this POKéMON pins the prey to the ground under its massive body. It then eats the helpless victim using the large mouth on its stomach."
-Sapphire Pokedex

Talos is Hephestus' robot guardian. It is brutal and unrelenting and scary as all hell.

Metagross in general has fallen from grace this gen with the steel nerf and was the first psuedo legendary to join UU, and with the help of its trusty Assault Vest it's ready for action. The EV's are to out-speed any base 75s and lower as well as most other Metagross. Meteor Mash is strong STAB that also has the nifty chance to boost Talos' very nice Attack stat to greater heights. Bullet Punch is for priority which the team needed because Demi's Sucker Punch isn't all that reliable and I don't like to send him out too early anyways. Earthquake is good ol' reliable, powerful and accurate as always. The last move though... is a toss up between filler moves... Grass Knot might be the best choic to hit Donphan and Swampert on the switch but I've really no idea what to put there. This is my main Early to Midgame Fairy counter and comes in on whatever Landon can't stop and always hits hard during a match.

Now comes the two main reasons why this team is called the Sea of Monsters.

The Sea of Monsters is guarded by two beasts, one named Charybdis and the other names Scylla, one taking in all attacks with nary a flinch and the other picking off any trespassers with the powerful strikes of her serpentine dragon heads. When played together well these two can be almost unstoppable and few heroes have beaten them in Mythology.
hydreigon.jpg

Scylla (Hydreigon) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Superpower
- Fire Blast > Dark Pulse
- Roost

"The heads on their arms do not have brains. They use all three heads to consume and destroy everything."
-X Pokedex

"It responds to movement by attacking. This scary, three-headed Pokémon devours everything in its path!"
-Y Pokedex

Meet Scylla, a sailor's death. From above Scylla's heads sweep down and devour the travelers coming to close, and you have to go too close to avoid Charybdis.

Scylla is devastating, Scylla is terrifying, and that's why I love it. Life Orb for the power that Choice Scarf doesn't provide and its partner can handle most of the faster threats that scare it off. Draco Meteor to brutally murder most everything and Dark Pulse to kill the rest, especially Mew and Jirachi who make me cry and for the special walls that try to wall me (bar Florges) I have SupahPowa, which does 2HKO Umbreon, Blissey and Snorlax after rocks and leftovers. Roost helps ease the pain of Life Orb.

4 Atk Life Orb Hydreigon Superpower vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Umbreon: 216-255 (54.8 - 64.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

4 Atk Life Orb Hydreigon Superpower vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Snorlax: 333-393 (63.5 - 75%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

4 Atk Life Orb Hydreigon Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Blissey: 426-502 (59.6 - 70.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Scylla is the go to wall breaker on the team and I don't think I've ever had a battle where she is useless.
jellicent.jpg

Charybdis (Jellicent) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt
- Recover

"The fate of the ships and crew that wander into Jellicent’s habitat: all sunken, all lost, all vanished."
-Black Pokedex
"They propel themselves by expelling absorbed seawater from their bodies. Their favorite food is life energy."
-White Pokedex

I'm 100% sure that Charybdis is what Gamefreak was thinking about when they created Jellicent. And it lives up to its origins most definitely.

Charybdis is my catch all wall, and even though it's fallen from grace due to knock off and the steel type nerf it is still amazing in these lower tiers. Physical defensive is the way to go as it gets great mixed bulk and running 44 speed EVs lets it outspeed a lot of other walls most notably Umbreon who it can beat one on one through a faster taunt and Will-o-wisp/Scald damage. Recover is the most important move because it takes a lot of hits, more hits than probably Goodra and Metagross combined. Charybdis puts a stop to Blissey, Infernape, Mega-Aerodactyl, some Lucario, Alomomola, Crobat, Mienshao, Sucicune, Aggron, Darmanitan, Fortress, Hippowdon, Snorlax, Toxicroak, and Arcanine, and that (Baring Arcanine) is only A- rank and above. It's in my opinion the best Catch all wall in the tier, despite the viability ranking stating otherwise.

As you can see my playstyle revolves around balance with this particular team revolving around a more offensive force. It's worked out well for me thus far though I've sort of peaked at around 1550.
Feel free to critique me all you want on both the team and the structure of the RMT.

Hi there buddy :] Gonna give this team a rate real qwik. As it stands your team is tremendously weak to Hydreigon, the only thing being able to come in on it being basically your own Hydreigon, which then has to risk a speed tie etc etc which obviously isn't the best method of dealing with this. I find that Goodra in this metagame is quite lackluster and one that I would not recommend on teams that you want to hit higher on the ladder with due to it's average stats and typing, even though it does get pretty decent coverage. So with that in mind, I suggest changing Goodra to Aromatisse, who can remedy your weakness to Hydreigon and also provide valuable Wish support to the rest of the team (2 of which have no way to recover on their own). The Aromatisse set can be found below;

aromatisse.gif

Aromatisse @ Leftovers
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy

The other suggestion I would make is changing your Hydreigon to Choice Scarf. At the current stage of the team, you don't have a problem with Blissey, Umbreon or Snorlax, so i don't really see the point in Superpower, furthermore, you have nothing that really benefits from Hydreigon baiting in Special walls so the LO set seems wasted and I think would be far better suited with Choice Scarf. The set should be Timid max max Draco / Dark Pulse/ Fire Blast / U-turn. I also suggest changing Toxicroak to Swords Dance over Bulk Up since Swords Dance is a far better option for Toxicroak given that it needs all the power it can get. With this change I would also use Gunk Shot over Poison Jab, again for the significant power boost.

As for EVs, I would change the EVs on Jellicent and take the EVs out of Defense instead of HP since removing the EVs from Jellicent also detracts from it's Special bulk. I would also put Shadow Ball over Scald on Jellicent since you already have Will-o-Wisp and Shadow Ball actually hits harder the main Fire-type that can avoid Wisp being Victini. Also if you're going to run Grass Knot on Metagross, run a Naughty Nature so you can at least hit Swampert etc for better damage.

Hope all these changes help and good luck with your laddering n_n

Hi there and thanks for the rate ^.^

I'll most definitely try out Aromatiesse on the team as it really helps with not only my weakness to hydreigon but also my weakness to hercross and mienshao, wish passing is also a definite plus for Metagross and Nidoqueen.

For hydreigon I've tried the scarf set and it really doesn't work for me, it's not bad so to speak but it doesn't fit my personal play style and there have been more games that have been won simply because it is life orb as opposed to games lost because it wasn't scarfed, I might have to sneak fire blast on there if Goodra is to go though.

With Aromatiesse on the team Toxicroak can afford to run SD though a one on one matchup with an opposing toxicroak becomes slightly more tense in this case, poison jab is there still for the reasons listed in the Original Post, I usually can't afford to miss my poison type move, so I need reliability over power.

Metagross was an overlook, thanks for catching it. and Jelli's EV's have been changed but I keep scald because of Mega Absol switching in on Jellicent, and burning that thing eases my pain tremendously, not to mention against other mons when I can't afford a will-o-turn.

I really appreciate the rate and will try put the options as soon as possible.

Thanks ^.^v

So after trying out the aromatisse change I've decided against it. It just didn't play too well on the team with my playstyle. It lost a lot of momentum and it opened up a lot of holes to common special attacking threats, Mega Blastoise and NidoRoyals rolled my team.

All the Evs have been changed as recommended though. Thanks for the advice though ^.^

If what you were missing by forfeiting Goodra was the Special Bulk, then perhaps try Florges over it. Florges has the same catch all special bulk like Goodra, and has enough offensive presence in its 112 Base SpAtk Mooblast. You can play around with the EVs to best fit your teams needs as well. It will catch Mega-Blastoise quite well, though if the NidoRoyals are a real problem then it is up to you.

It wasn't just the bulk that Goodra brought it was the Offensive presence it had, with it's coverage and high power out put, Florges and Aromatisse just don't have that same effect on the team. Wish passing also hampers momentum on the team, as the team as a whole is able to force switches with powerful attacks. The two fairies don't really fit with the playstyle of the team in practice even though they sound like an improvement in theory.
