Game Freak hit with another hack, info leaking

(like I have the same take on it but I still don't really get it)

Game Freak hit with another hack, info leaking

Various gen stuff I got super late last night that I'll post real quick before going off to work: - Corsola (Saniigo) partially from amigo along with the more obvious sunny and sango - "regi" of the regis is from "register"... the kanji they list is specifically "primary storage" (一次記憶装置, which...

hm, never heard this one and although some of them are definitely back-justifications, it is honestly a fair take given gf's love of tokusatsu.

Game Freak hit with another hack, info leaking

So one thing that I didn't expect to see was localization documents, for all games up to HGSS!!! Although they're not always direct explanations of Japanese names, some do leak quite a bit into that and it's also interesting to see the deliberate choices made on the localization end. It's...

mildly interesting is that they changed its name from Gonzou (cf 小僧 (edit: kozou), literally "little monk" figuratively and more frequently "kid") to Gonbee.

In previous revisions, many Pokemon in gen 5 use stats and abilities copypasted from other Pokemon that... vaguely visually / typewise resemble them (chicken and egg scenario): https://tcrf.net/Development:Pokémon_Black_and_White/Pokémon_Data/Base_Stats The older the Pokemon the more likely it...

I don't think this is the case as Metagross was intended to be based on a meteorite. The design document just calls for "meteorite pokemon 1 2 3" when they make the Beldum line.

Casual thought, but given Gamefreak's fondness for upcycling scrapped concepts, I wouldn't be that surprised if Bonsly had inspiration from the sprinkler shrub Pokemon. It's kinda visually similar and has a similar gimmick (albeit expressed in different ways) - Bonsly has Fake Tears while the...

Game Freak hit with another hack, info leaking

It started out as a Pokemon called Bee and then they changed it to Kamomeeru (portmanteau of Kamome (seagull) and potentially mail). A lot of the beta Pokemon in gen 3 don't feel very exclusive and a lot of concepts were split up into little pieces and reused later. It being reused for Illumise...

I think all of them are listed as single types. I'm not sure if this was what they intended as their "primary" type? Things like Lotad (which is explicitly a lotus) is listed as water only rather than a pretty logical water/grass.

So in 2021 we got a chunk of Gen 3 Pokedex entries / Pokemon category names + also a couple names (iirc). What we did not have was any sprites or the other chunk of (WIP) names. https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/leftover-prototype-gen-3-pok%C3%A9mon-data-first-looks.3664582/page-2 Now, we...

Pokemon Legends - Arceus - 28th Jan 2022 *Official Content Only*

Even gamefreak forgot finneon lmao On a serious note one thing I didn't think about is that dive isn't really realistic given that there's no magic "breathe underwater" item like there is in the anime / games. This makes encountering deep sea pokemon kind of difficult so the only way you could...

Gen 7 Development Repository Leak Discussion

Beyond the last one being (apparently?) "Crown Flower" and the second being (at best) "Viscous Flower" or some corruption of "Hibiscus", the other two are mysteries, especially the third one. Maybe the first one is a corruption of "Plumeria"?

Leftover Prototype Gen 3 Pokémon Data: First Looks

Not too big or anything, but something I never noticed because the word was spelled in kana is that the spelling of the word used for "Shrub" for the bizarre sprinkler Pokemon's category name (かんぼく / 灌木) has the first kanji as one that is also used for 灌水 (to spray water, especially onto plants...

Prototype/Development Diamond & Pearl Assets Leak

Tinted Lens: The modifier of .5 would be changed to .75 presumably, given the comment. Water speed boosting item: Literally called "Speed Up in Rain Item" Choice scarf: yes that is choice scarf and specifically uses the choice item name Long list of items: what are you looking to see in that?

Gen 7 Development Repository Leak Discussion

Super late on this thread, but some comments: Cutiefly's codename is abu; beeflies are referred to as ツリアブ (tsuri-abu); it is a beefly and this is a poor translation Wishiwashi's final name is actually "Yowashi", so I guess they had this one planned out for well in advance or the name stuck...

Prototype/Development Diamond & Pearl Assets Leak

Big thanks to minibug on the discord for being kind enough to make an extremely convenient document that allowed me to easily analyze / translate this without having to dig through 10 different files. Documents exist from 10 dates: As far as I know, names only changed once. Pokedex...

Prototype/Development Diamond & Pearl Assets Leak

People on discord suggested that Chimairan also has traits of Landorus-T, which should have been obvious in hindsight. C2H4 on discord gave a list of move changes, posting translations; proto translated > final english Hammer Punch > Hammer Arm Vengeance > Metal Burst [very similar name to...

Prototype/Development Diamond & Pearl Assets Leak

Pokedex files, starting with the oldest version, 3-23-2006. Seems like the previous file was from this version. These have two versions; Diamond's comes first and Pearl's comes second. for my convenience, I'll just use "s" to denote a small phrasing difference and "r" for a larger rephrasing...
