IV Calculator now takes Characteristics into consideration

This should actually be tested more because it would help breeding even further. I just calculated the IVs of some Yanma and I have a 'Capable of taking hits' that looks like it has 31 speed. The IV calculator actually says 30-31 but I'm assuming its 31 because a parent has that stat in speed. This may not be the case at all however so I'm going to test some more.

Of course if this has already be confirmed as false then please, reply because it would save me some time.

"Capable of taking hits" is a Defense characteristic, that's why. It doesn't mean a thing about your speed. Your speed very well could have been 31, and "Capable of taking hits" was just randomly chosen over the "Alert to Sounds" characteristic. Or maybe for some reason it's only 30, and "Capable of taking hits" was rightfully chosen as your correct characteristic, as your defense IV would be higher then your speed IV.

In other words, you need to test some more.

Just IV checked some more Rhyhorns - had one with max HP and max Def, but with characteristic 'Often dozes off'. Looks like the one selected when there's a tie is random after all.

However, my result set is small (about 10 pokes) at the moment so coincidence could be at work here. Does anyone have any evidence that would confirm or refute my theory?
My max attack/spattack/spdefense/speed Weavile is "somewhat vain". By your system it should be "alert to sounds", no?

I changed Reset to just redirect you back to the same page, so it should reset everything now, including the number of rows.

Oops, actually - I didn't explain properly. I think resetting everything makes the calculator a lot more inconvenient to use. I think when users hit reset, they're usually using it to clear rows and rows of numbers after they've rare-candied up a poke.

So they're usually trying to do the same thing they just calculated, but to a different IV'd poke - though usually the same species/situation. So if you also reset the number of rows, they'll just have to load the page again to add them.

I did some more tests (see my post above) and disproved my own theory. When there's a tie for max stats, the characteristic chosen is random.

Yeah thats what I thought. After breeding a few more Yanma I got several random results so we can dismiss that.

Okay so its random, but is it always the same for any given Pokemon?

What I'm asking is if the characteristic is stored, or is different every time on Pokes with more than on top IV.

You can only ever see one characteristic on each Pokemon, no matter how many equal top IVs it has, if thats what you're asking.

the kind of characteristic shown is your highest IV.

they can tell you the last digit of the IV. on that list, they come in this order:

0 or 5
1 or 6
2 or 7
3 or 8
4 or 9

example: the second one on each means that the last digit is 1 or 6 so the IV could be 31/26/21/16/11/6/1

Thanks I knew that the characteristics helped determine IVs but i didn't know hiw thanks for explaining it.

28/23/18/13/8/3 Scatters things often.
27/22/17/12/7/2 Often scatters things. NOT "Often naps."

That is saying the same thing...

Scatters things often
Often scatters things

It is saying the same thing, but the translators were stupid and put it in anyway x(

A Pokemon can have "Often scatters things" OR "Scatters things often" as a characteristic, and both are slightly different when it comes to IVs.

how can you ignore a clear fact? no matter how dumb it may sound, it´s a fact that there is no characteristic called OFTEN NAPS in the english translation (noone has ever seen it), the same applies to HOT TEMPERED as well (it´s called quick tempered, yes there is also A little quick tempered but blame NOA not me)

I see no reason why you´d still use the wrong list in your calculator (which is awesome except for this chara list)

as for more of the same max IVs, the chara is random, this has been proven many times a long time ago

This is awesome, nice job. I also have a small problem though, I remembered that my Houndoom had good IVs, I just forgot what they were exactly,so I wanted to recheck them, it's lv 34 and when I input the stats, characteristic and EVs into the calculator, it said Speed and Sp.Attk were invalid. Then when I took away the characteristic, just speed was invalid, any way to help?

TS is correct, at lvl 50 lets say...an azelf with 141 speed may have 18 or 19 speed Ivs, it is unsure which, when charecteristics are added, 100% accuracy is available for 1 stat....Btw metalkid green bay wisconsin FTW baby

Could you give me the stats/nature/characteristic? I'll look into it.

Could you give me the stats/nature/characteristic? I'll look into it.

Thanks, here they are

Nature:Modest
Characteristic:Mischievous
Hidden Power:Unkown
Pokemon:Houndoom
Level:35

Stats-

HP:100
Attk:60
Def:46
Sp.Attk:119
Sp.Def:69
Speed:99

EVs-

HP:40
Attk:0
Def:0
Sp.Attk:252
Sp.Def:0
Speed:216

Thanks in advance

It seems that it is impossible to have 60 attack at level 35 being Modest. The lowest you can have is 61 attack.

If you have 40 EVs in HP, the lowest you can have is 101 HP, as well.

sorry, meant lv 34. Oops. Okey, here are its lv 60 stats

HP:169
Attk:104
Def:78
Sp.Attk:207
Sp.Def:119
Speed:171

I double checked them, those are definately correct. All other info is still the same.
