  • Bolstering a massive Attack stat, Haxorus uses its natural strength combined with a Choice Band to overwhelm its foes.
  • Outrage is Haxorus's strongest option, threatening KOs on many Pokemon that don't resist it, such as Pecharunt, Volcarona, and Volcanion.
  • Scale Shot allows Haxorus to break through Substitutes created by SubSeed Pokemon such as Serperior.
  • First Impression allows Haxorus to get the jump on Meowscarada and Chien-Pao.
  • For the last move, Close Combat can be used to threaten KOs on Steel-types such as Heatran and Hisuian Goodra. Iron Tail can be used to KO Diancie and Sylveon. Finally, Poison Jab can OHKO Whimsicott.
  • Unnerve is Haxorus's generally preferred ability to prevent Pokemon that use resistance berries such as Haban Berry Raging Bolt and Chople Berry Hisuian Goodra and Urshifu-S from preventing an OHKO. However, Mold Breaker can be used to break through Hisuian Avalugg's Sturdy.
  • As Choice Band Haxorus is locked into a move after it selects one, it is advised to select the move that does the most damage.
  • Steel-types that don't care for Haxorus's coverage moves such as Corviknight and Iron Crown can defeat Haxorus, while faster Ice- and Fairy-type Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Kyurem and Iron Valiant can threaten a KO on Haxorus. Good Fire- and Steel-type partners like Volcanion and one's own Iron Crown can help Haxorus in these poor matchups.

  • Choice Scarf Haxorus looks to outspeed and KO a variety of different Pokemon with high-Base Power moves while using Unnerve to prevent Custap Berry on Hoopa-U and Haban Berry on Raging Bolt and Garchomp from being activated.
  • Outrage allows Haxorus to OHKO most other Dragon-types like Raging Bolt and Dragapult.
  • Close Combat can hit Porygon-Z and Choice Specs Darkrai.
  • The remaining moveslots can be tailored to beat specific notable Pokemon in the tier. Rock Slide can be used to target Volcarona. X-Scissor hits Hoopa-U, Meowscarada, and both offensive and SubSeed Ogerpon-W without the downside of confusion chances from Outrage. Iron Tail hits Diancie and Alolan Ninetales. Earthquake can hit non-Air Balloon Heatran.
  • Adamant maximizes Choice Scarf Haxorus's damage output, which can be important for matchups versus bulky Porygon-Z, while a Jolly nature gives Haxorus maximum Speed to outpace Choice Scarf Porygon-Z.
  • Haxorus struggles with most Steel- and Fairy-types like Hisuian Goodra and Primarina as well as physically bulky Pokemon even if they don't resist Outrage like Landorus-T and Ursaluna, so it pairs well with Pokemon like Iron Hands and Air Balloon Volcanion that can deal with them.
