Kingdra performa o papel de um temível usuário de Swift Swim para times Water-type, ameaçando diversos matchups, como Bug, Electric e Dragon. Ao utilizar Swift Swim para dobrar sua Speed em rain, ultrapassando ameaças como Galvantula, Choice Scarf Gengar, Choice Scarf Virizion e Kyurem, Kingdra age como um incrível sweeper e wallbreaker enquanto usa Choice Specs para fortalecer seu Special Attack abaixo da média. Debaixo de rain, Surf é o move mais importante de Kingdra, pois pode dar OHKO em Pokémon como Zeraora e Urshifu. Dragon Pulse é usado em situações em que Kingdra precisa atacar Pokémon como Kyurem, Toxapex e Mantine, que podem resistir ou ser imunes a seus ataques Water-type. Draco Meteor inflige enorme quantidade de dano em Pokémon como Keldeo e Amoonguss, que normalmente não se importariam com os outros ataques de Kingdra. Hydro Pump pode ser usado para passar por Pokémon como Porygon2, além de ter uma chance de conseguir um OHKO em Stallbreaker Mew e Aegislash debaixo de rain. Hurricane é uma opção no lugar de Hydro Pump, pois é confiável em rain e pode dar OHKO em Grass-types inimigos, como Virizion, Whimsicott e Celebi. Máximo investimento em Special Attack e Speed junto de uma nature Modest permite que Kingdra inflija o máximo de dano possível enquanto se aproveita de Swift Swim para ultrapassar ameaças ao seu time.

Para que a habilidade de wallbreak e sweep de Kingdra seja maximizada, rain é necessária, por isso Pelipper é um aliado perfeito. Pelipper pode escolher um set defensivo com Heavy-Duty Boots se Kingdra optar por Hurricane, já que Pelipper pode trazer Kingdra em segurança com U-turn e colocar rain em campo. Pelipper também pode usar um set Choice Specs para ajudar Kingdra com Grass-types se não tiver Hurricane em seu moveset. Eject Button Toxapex também pode servir como um pivot enquanto dá suporte a Kingdra contra Pokémon bulky, como Porygon2 e Chansey, por meio de Toxic Spikes e Toxic. Pokémon como Tentacruel, Pelipper e Rotom-W podem ser usados como controle de hazards e podem ajudar Kingdra a se manter saudável o suficiente durante a partida. Slowking também pode ser incluído no time, pois pode fazer pivot para Kingdra e outro aliados em segurança enquanto age como uma special wall. Seismitoad pode ser pareado com Kingdra, podendo colocar Stealth Rock, que também enfraquece os checks de Kingdra, como Porygon2 e Chansey, enquanto providencia ao time uma imunidade a Electric.
