Overview

Shinx has a unique niche as an Intimidate user that can check physical Flying-types and pivot in and out safely thanks to Volt Switch; however, it is hard to justify its use due to its poor defensive stats and bad coverage. Even with Intimidate, Shinx's bulk is very underwhelming, which means it can't reliably check threats such as Doduo and Rufflet. It is outclassed by Snubbull as an Intimidate pivot because of Snubbull's better overall stats, and stronger coverage options, and it is outclassed by Chinchou as an Electric-type defensive pivot thanks to Chinchou's better bulk and defensive typing.

Shinx makes use of Volt Switch to act as a pivot that can weaken physical attackers with Intimidate as well as steal a target's item with Thief once Berry Juice is consumed. However, Snubbull does this work better due to access to Thunder Wave, a better typing, and a better defensive presence, as well as more utility given to teams, while Chinchou has more defensive utility and a better typing, making hard to justify Shinx's use on any serious team.
