What is an OMotM/LCotM?

The OMotM, or Other Metagame of the Month, is the metagame that is voted by the players to have a ladder for a specific month. The LCotM, or Leader's Choice of the Month, is a second ladder that is chosen specifically by OM Forum Mods. For the most part, the LCotM is a metagame that needs more love, as it may not be able to compete with the metagames that get nominated for the OMotM voting.

For October 2022, the OM of the Month is Revelationmons, while Leader's Choice is Tag Team Singles.

Introduction to Revelationmons

In Revelationmons, the move in the first moveslot has its type changed to match the Pokemon's primary typing. If the Pokemon has a secondary type, the move in the second moveslot has its type changed to the Pokemon's secondary typing as well. Otherwise, Base Power, accuracy, and secondary effects all stay the same. This opens up a lot of opportunities for Pokemon that may not have the strongest STAB moves and can also give them a solid STAB utility move. Widely distributed moves like Earthquake, Earth Power, and Thunderbolt can now be used to give Pokemon like Gyarados and Hydreigon better STAB moves and enable their sweeps. Some moves are too powerful when their type is changed such as U-turn, Volt Switch, and Close Combat, so they are subsequently restricted from being placed in the first two moveslots.

Threats in Revelationmons

Skarmory is a great example of a Pokemon that radically changes its role in Revelationmons. With Flying Body Press, it can boost its offenses and Defense in a single move with Iron Defense and outspeed the entire unboosted metagame after Agility. The physically inclined nature of the metagame gives it loads of setup opportunities, transforming it into a dangerous sweeper while still being a stout wall!

Tapu Koko finally gets a way to utilize its broad set of physical attacks in this metagame, with Fairy-type Brave Bird making it incredibly difficult for Electric-immune Pokemon to switch in properly. Toxic is great for wearing down switch-ins like Hippowdon, but generally you should be firing off STAB moves or pivoting the majority of games to keep up pressure.

Extreme Speed is a coveted move in many OMs, and Revelationmons is no exception. Powerful STAB priority moves are always in high demand, and type-changed Extreme Speed is the best of the bunch. Entei stands out as a notable user thanks to its great Attack, useful coverage moves, utility in spreading burns, and immunity to Intimidate. Any team without a sturdy Fire-resistant wall risks getting bowled over by Choice Band Extreme Speed!

Introduction to Tag Team Singles

Tag Team Singles is a brand new metagame with a simple concept; bring four Pokemon, choose two. This metagame is different from its doubles counterpart 2v2 Doubles, as it is played in singles. This metagame is interesting, as it creates similar mind games to 1v1 and 2v2 Doubles while having outs in a backup Pokemon. Team Preview is hugely important in this metagame, as figuring out which two Pokemon match up well with the two your opponent is likely to bring is no easy task. It is also crucial to have multiple viable combinations of teammates to avoid telegraphing your strategy and handle whatever the opponent throws at you. This metagame is a fun take on smaller team size and is definitely worth giving a try.

Threats in Tag Team Singles

Victini is amazing in Tag Team Singles, as it provides a threatening combination of power and utility in its sets. It is able to force out a huge chunk of the tier between the threat of V-create and Final Gambit. Victini can very easily turn the battle into a 1v1 with Final Gambit or just break right through opposing teams, and it still has great bulk and a good typing that make it hard to KO outright.

Urshifu-S is an amazingly powerful wallbreaker, similarly to most metagames, and pairs well with a lot of the metagame like Heatran and Victini. It's very difficult to defeat Urshifu-S without a Fairy-type, so it's easy to capitalize on its lack of checks with your partner. U-turn is also quite strong, as keeping momentum in this metagame can be immensely important.

Togekiss is another fantastic Choice Scarf user in this metagame and is capable of utilizing its high flinch chance to win a lot of matchups easily. Trick is a fantastic tool that can turn games around in an instant and invalidate defensive Pokemon, so the threat of it can force mind games all on its own. Pairing Togekiss with something like Imprison Transform Mew can be incredibly frustrating for many teams to deal with, and the two of them make a fun combo to try out.

Final Thoughts

Revelationmons and Tag Team Singles are both metagames that offer unique experiences for anyone to enjoy. Enjoy these metagames this October and check out the Other Metas room on PS! to discuss them.
