What is an OMotM/LCotM?

The OMotM, or Other Metagame of the Month, is the metagame that is voted by the players to have a ladder for a specific month. The LCotM, or Leader's Choice of the Month, is a second ladder that is chosen specifically by OM Forum Mods. For the most part, the LCotM is a metagame that needs more love, as it may not be able to compete with the others that get nominated for the OMotM voting.

For August, the OM of the Month is Pokemoves, while Leader's Choice is Flipped.

Introduction to Pokemoves

Pokemoves is a newly introduced metagame in which you are able to use a Pokémon as a move. For example, Landorus-T could use Tornadus-T as a Pokemove, which would be a 110-Base Power Flying-type special move (based on Tornadus-T's highest attacking stat, primary typing, and higher offensive stat, respectively) that grants Regenerator (Tornadus-T's primary Ability) until Landorus-T switches out. Something that is also important to note is that Pokemoves grant their abilities on top of the base Pokémon's regular ability, meaning something like Dragonite with the Pokemove Flamigo would have Scrappy on top of Multiscale. However, there are some restrictions, as all Pokemoves higher than 125 Base Power are banned, so something like Great Tusk cannot use Landorus-T as a Pokemove. Another restriction is that all Pokémon are allowed a maximum of one Pokemove in a moveset. Certain Pokémon are also restricted, as, if a Pokémon like Dragapult had access to a physical Ghost-type Pokemove like Banette, it would be way too strong. In case you are unsure of what a Pokemove would do, you can use the /pokemove command in any room or battle chat, like this: /pokemove clefable. Overall, Pokemoves allows for many unique possibilities and combinations that any Pokémon player can enjoy.

Threats in Pokemoves

Kingambit

Kingambit uses the Pokemove Bisharp, as Bisharp grants Kingambit a 125-Base Power Dark-type STAB move that also gives it the ability Defiant, letting it take advantage of Intimidate from foes like Landorus-T. Sucker Punch lets Kingambit outspeed and OHKO faster threats like Gholdengo and Iron Boulder. Kingambit typically uses a bulkier EV spread so that it can take hits more easily, though it can also opt for a faster EV spread that functions incredibly well with Sticky Web users like Ribombee.

Gholdengo

Gholdengo can use the Pokemove Haunter, which grants it immunity to Earthquake from Landorus-T and Great Tusk in addition to other Ground-type moves while also being a power 115-Base Power Ghost-type move. Recover increases Gholdengo's longevity, allowing it multiple setup attempts and the ability to boost in front of resisted attacks with ease. Gholdengo uses Heavy-Duty Boots to avoid taking chip damage from entry hazards like Spikes as well as the Speed drop from Sticky Web.

Raging Bolt

Raging Bolt uses Latios as a Pokemove to give it the ability Levitate, making it immune to Ground-type attacks from Landorus-T and Great Tusk in addition to it being a strong 130-Base Power Dragon-type move. Thunderclap allows Raging Bolt to outspeed and severely damage if not OHKO threats like Weavile and Iron Valiant. Raging Bolt can use Booster Energy to obtain a ridiculous boost to its Special Attack, though it can also use Leftovers to for more longevity. Leftovers is also a better option if Raging Bolt wants to gain a Protosynthesis boost by using sun set up by Torkoal's Drought.

Introduction to Flipped

Flipped is an OM where all base stats are, as the OM name states, Flipped! So, a Pokémon like Iron Bundle with a base stat spread of 56/80/114/124/60/136 now has a Flipped base stat spread of 136/60/124/114/80/56. Unsurprisingly, this creates some quite powerful Pokémon, like Blissey, which has a massive 255 Speed stat as well as a quite powerful 135 Attack stat, hence why it is banned. In case you aren't sure of what the new stat spread of a Pokémon is, there is a command, /flip. To use it, type it in a chat room or battle chat, and format it like this: /flip iron bundle. In the end, Flipped changes the entire meaning of how a Pokémon functions, leading to an exciting metagame!

Threats in Flipped

Chansey

New stat spread: 50/105/35/5/5/250

Chansey is one of the best Pokémon in the format, thanks to its ridiculous base Speed stat of 250, solid base 105 Attack boosted further by Choice Band, and access to Serene Grace, letting it easily paralyze foes with Body Slam and cause them to flinch with Rock Slide or Zen Headbutt. Earthquake lets Chansey hit Gholdengo, Pecharunt, and Iron Treads. Rock Slide hits Talonflame and Volcarona, whereas Zen Headbutt nails Mienshao and Iron Valiant. Healing Wish lets Chansey sacrifice itself for a low HP teammate. Serene Grace lets Chansey easily paralyze and cause foes to flinch with Body Slam, Rock Slide, and Zen Headbutt, respectively, but it can also use Natural Cure to rid itself of burn from Talonflame, Volcarona, and Moltres. Tera Ground increases the power of Earthquake, letting it deal even more damage to Gholdengo, Pecharunt, and Iron Treads.

Deoxys-Speed

New stat spread: 180/90/95/90/95/50

Deoxys-S functions as a bulky wall due to its new 180 HP and 95 Defense and Special Defense base stats and an amazing utility movepool. Psychic Noise prevents switch-ins like Gholdengo and opposing Deoxys-S from using Recover, whereas Future Sight lets Deoxys-S deal solid damage and put significant pressure on the opponent. Knock Off removes Heavy-Duty Boots from Moltres and Talonflame in addition to Assault Vest from Mienshao, Taunt prevents attempts to restore HP from Gholdengo and opposing Deoxys-S as well as Defog from Talonflame, and Teleport lets it function as a slow pivot and works well in conjunction with Future Sight. Spikes works well with Stealth Rock setters like Iron Treads for entry hazard stack teams. Recover lets Deoxys-S switch in more easily and increases its longevity. Leftovers increases the longevity of Deoxys-S, though Heavy-Duty Boots is a solid alternative.

Pecharunt

New stat spread: 88/88/88/160/88/88

A new monstrous Special Attack stat of 160 in addition to access to Nasty Plot and a solid offensive typing lets Pecharunt function as a late-game sweeper. Malignant Chain lets Pecharunt hit Iron Valiant hard while also working incredibly well in combination with Hex and Poison Puppeteer. Shadow Ball can be used to deal more damage to Steel-types like Iron Treads, but Hex can also be used, as its ridiculous power is appreciated against poisoned foes. Recover allows Pecharunt to stay healthy throughout the course of a match. Tera Poison raises the power of Malignant Chain, Tera Ghost increases the power of Shadow Ball and Hex, and Tera Flying lets Pecharunt avoid Earthquake from Pokémon like Chansey and Iron Treads.

Final Thoughts

Pokemoves and Flipped, while being quite different from each other, are interesting metagames that allow for limitless creativity that anyone is able to be fond of. Enjoy these metagames this August and check out the room on PS! to discuss them!
