Introduction

Welcome to Satisfying Sets in Battle Stadium Singles, a series that explores underused and underexplored sets for the current Battle Stadium Singles metagame! After the chaos that came with the introduction of Regulation C, the metagame has stabilized a lot, with Pokémon such as Dragonite and Flutter Mane quickly reestablishing themselves as top metagame threats. Weather in general is quite uncommon, with rain and sun being the most prominent of the bunch. With that said, today we're going to explore some sets that work on some unorthodox weathers—snow and sand!

Icy Rock Abomasnow

Abomasnow

Truthfully, Abomasnow is quite a bad Pokémon, mainly seeing usage due to its ability, Snow Warning. Aurora Veil allows it to give some popular teammates such as Swords Dance Chien-Pao an additional Defense boost. Ice Shard is used to render Focus Sash ineffective on foes such as Flutter Mane, as well as to break Mimikyu's Disguise. This allows Abomasnow's teammates to sweep significantly more easily, without having to worry about foes randomly tanking an attack. Giga Drain is a decent STAB attack that is primarily used to hit Water-types such as Iron Bundle and Dondozo while also providing some means of recovery. Tera Blast is used to allow Abomasnow to surprise incoming Steel-types like Gholdengo at the cost of the defense boost that snow grants Abomasnow by virtue of its Ice typing. It should be noted that Blizzard can be used over Tera Blast, as it is a good STAB move that will never miss in snow. The given EV spread prevents Abomasnow from being OHKOed by Swords Dance Iron Valiant. A popular teammate for Abomasnow is Aurora Veil Iron Bundle, which can take advantage of Abomasnow's snow to set Aurora Veil for itself, boosting its Defense to astronomical levels.

Loaded Dice Tyranitar

Tyranitar

In tandem with Loaded Dice, Rock Blast is Tyranitar's strongest STAB move. Now you may be asking "Why not just use Stone Edge and run a different item? Surely Leftovers would be better on a Pokémon like Tyranitar, which can thwart most attempts at using Focus Sash through sand chip anyway". In OverUsed, this would be a very valid concern. However, in Battle Stadium Singles, Mimikyu and Dragonite are extremely and somewhat common, respectively, and both are often extremely good against the offensive teams that Tyranitar fits on best. With Rock Blast, Tyranitar can do more damage to Dragonite because it pops Multiscale and also has better accuracy than Stone Edge. Ordinarily, Swords Dance Mimikyu would be able to 1v1 Tyranitar by using Swords Dance turn one and Play Rough turn 2. However, with Loaded Dice, Tyranitar has a favorable chance to OHKO Mimikyu in a one-on-one scenario. The rest of the set is fairly standard, with Crunch to hit foes like Air Balloon Gholdengo and Earthquake to prevent Garganacl from safely countering Tyranitar as well as provide a way to easily 2HKO Clodsire. Dragon Tail is an option over Earthquake, however, as it can phaze foes that would otherwise set up in front of Tyranitar such as IronPress Garganacl. Tera Flying is used to make Earthquake a much more risky option for opposing Garchomp, as well as beating Rest-less Dondozo in a one-on-one while also avoiding Fissure attempts from it and Ting-Lu. Roaring Moon is arguably the best teammate for Tyranitar. Similarly to the classic Hippowdon + Dragonite core of older generations, Roaring Moon takes advantage of sand chip to more easily wallbreak against some defensive teams.

Assault Vest Paldean Tauros-F

Tauros-Paldea-Blaze

Despite not being a weather setter itself, Paldean Tauros-F is extremely potent on weather teams, as it can easily take care of threats to them such as Garganacl and teams built around screens. Close Combat is used to 2HKO Garganacl while also dealing a good amount of damage to Tyranitar. Raging Bull deals with the aforementioned teams that rely heavily on screens to be in play in order to be effective. Iron Head is the preferred third move, as it can hit foes that Terastallize into Fairy-types, such as Dondozo and some Dragonite; it also provides a midground against Garganacl and Tyranitar, should the user be wary of them Terastallizing into Ghost-types. It also can OHKO Flutter Mane without Terastallizing. However, Stone Edge's usefulness should not be overlooked, as it is Paldean Tauros-F's best shot of taking on Iron Moth. Trailblaze and Flame Charge are both used to open up the possibility of sweeping with Paldean Tauros-F. The EV spread allows Paldean Tauros-F to defeat Choice Band Chien-Pao in a one-on-one after Intimidate while also ensuring that it can do the same with Choice Specs Flutter Mane. However, it should be noted that against Flutter Mane, Trailblaze must be used first and Raging Bull second. The Speed EVs allow Paldean Tauros-F to outspeed Flutter Mane after using Trailblaze or Flame Charge once, and the rest of the EVs are put into Special Defense to ease the Flutter Mane matchup.

Final Thoughts

Thank you for reading, and I hope you can enjoy trying out these weathers in Battle Stadium Singles! Make sure to look out for part 2, which will cover sun and rain.
