[OVERVIEW]
- Thanks to its decent speed tier, and its great bulk after Eviolite's boost, Vigoroth is a pretty interesting set up sweeper.
- Its good Speed + Taunt + reliable recovery makes it basically impossible for stall to beat it if you manage to remove Ferroseed and similar passive Pokemon, although you can still PP stall those.
- Vital Spirit makes it able to check sleep sweepers which are big threats in the current NU metagame.
- It doesn't have any way to hit super effectively Pokemon such as Rhydon and Regirock unlike Gurdurr, a common Bulk Up sweeper Pokemon. Vigoroth also has poor coverage options which make it unable to hit Ghost-type Pokemon.
- It lacks a weakness other than Fighting-type which makes it a good wincondition.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
- Bulk Up is the most important move of this set since it makes Vigoroth a win condition. Bulk Up gives Vigoroth the power and physically defensive bulk it needs to be a good set up sweeper. Vigoroth can set up on Pokemon such as weakened physical attackers (Samurott, Scyther) and passive Pokemon in general (Ferroseed, Bronzor).
- Slack Off is an important move to keep health and being able to spam Bulk Up in the long term.
- Substitute provides a useful buffer against damaging status moves such as Scald, Sludge Bomb, and Clear Smog, as well as potential revenge killers.
- Taunt can prevent the foe from boosting, healing, or phazing Vigoroth out. It helps it go through passive Pokemon such as Bronzor, Ferroseed etc.
- Body Slam is used because of its Paralysis chance, helping it beat faster threats.
- Facade can be used to take advantage of status and hit harder, although the paralysis chance is still more important, being able to paralyze strong and fast physical attackers such as Scyther and Tauros is interesting.
- Frustration can be used over Body Slam because it's slightly stronger, but being able to paralyze stuff is still more important.
Set Details
========
- Eviolite is the only viable item for Vigoroth since it gives it a decent bulk in both defenses, and basically makes it take hits and stay longer in game.
- 16 Speed with a Jolly nature lets it outspeed Skuntank and Abomasnow.
- Maximizing HP and putting the rest of the HP in SpD helps it check Vivillon and Lilligant better, alongside a decent specially defensive bulk, helping it with all special attackers in general and being able to Sub up on weaker moves like Lanturn's and Gastrodon's Scald, or Weezing's Sludge Bomb.
========
- Don't try to set up if your opponent has a healthy Ghost-type Pokemon, since Vigoroth is unable to hit them.
- You can 1v1 some variants of Rhydon and Regirock, as long as the former doesn't run Swords Dance, and the latter doesn't run Counter, but make sure to know their set before trying to set up.
- Body Slam gives Vigoroth some early game utility in potentially spreading paralysis if the opponent has fast Pokemon like Liepard that makes setting up a non-option.
- Fast taunt users such as Skuntank and Archeops can beat Vigoroth so make sure to KO these threats before setting up.
- Vigoroth performs well in end games where all of its checks are KOd and it can basically set-up and win.
- Vigoroth has to be wary of Knock Off since it's way less bulky if it loses its Eviolite.
========
- Something such as trapper Skuntank and Liepard to get rid of Ghost-type Pokemon is also important to let Vigoroth clean.
- Fighting checks in general (Weezing, Garbodor, Vileplume) can help Vigoroth since it's pretty weak to those, mainly Primeape, if it didn't set up before.
- Vigoroth's Eviolite is important to keep its bulk, so having a Knock Off absorber such as Mega Audino, Garbodor, and Vileplume is great.
- Knock Off absorbers (such as Weezing/Garbodor/Vileplume/Mega Audino) and sponges in general are good to have since Knock Off is a huge threat to Vigoroth.
- Healing Wish users such as Mesprit are valuable for the Facade set, giving it a second chance to sweep once it's low on HP from the first wallbreaking attempt.
- Vigoroth can beat some Rhydon/Regirock variant, but having something to KO them (and Rock-type Pokemon in general) such as Ludicolo, Hariyama, Mantine is necessary.
Other Options
=============
- Amnesia can be used to take advantage of Vigoroth's special defense and make Vigoroth bulkier, but generally Taunt is just better while Substitute is pretty important to absorb status moves.
- An offensive set with Earthquake / Fire Punch / Sucker Punch and Subtitute or Slack Off can be used to 2HKO Aggron / Ferroseed and Rotom that usually are counters to Vigoroth. You can also use Encore on this set to take advantage of Vigoroth's speed and the opposite Sleep Talk, Stealth Rock etc. Although, the set needs to include Normal-STAB to not be dead weight vs frail offensive threats that can't take a Return.
- A Taunt / Toxic / Seimsic Toss / Slack Off set is a fairly optimal option to lure Ghost-type Pokemon thanks to Toxic and could be an okay Normal spam partner, although Pokemon such as Swellow and Pyroar are usually preferred.
===================
**Ghost-type Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Scarf Rotom can Trick Vigoroth while it can't hit them back, alongside Mismagius and Haunter that can break Vigoroth easily, thanks to their STABs and Taunt support. Ghost-types are the best fail-safe response as Vigoroth is essentially helpless versus them.
**Fighting-type Pokmon**: Fast Fighting-type Pokemon, like Hitmonchan and Primeape, can make Vigoroth unable to set up, as they pressure it a lot. Vigoroth can Taunt Gurdurr to stop it from setting up beside it, but it's still a difficult matchup unless you have a load of boosts in advance due to Knock Off + STAB Drain Punch.
**Status**: Poison and Burn can wear down Vigoroth pretty easily if Vigoroth is not behind a Substitute, it mostly fears status on a switch-in from Scald / Toxic users if it lacks a Substitute or Facade.
**Powerful Special Attackers**: Vigoroth may have great investment in special bulk but it's still relatively unprotected, so the likes of Pyroar, Aurorus, Jynx, Ludicolo, Choice Specs Mesprit, Magmortar, Shiftry (especially if it Knocks Off Eviolite), etc. can put a lot of pressure on Vigoroth while it struggles to take them down quickly enough, just so long as they avoid Body Slam paras.
