Tyranitar @ Assault Vest
252 HP / 124 Atk / 76 Def / 4 SpA / 52 SpD
Brave Nature
- EQ
- Stone Edge / Rock Tomb
- Ice beam

Tyranitar was the best way to deal with Naganadel at OU (before Naga got banned). 124 Atk and Brave nature is enough to OHKO the common 20 HP Naganadel with EQ. The AV itself allows tyranitar survive a 2+ Draco-Z from Naganadel, so I adjusted the EV to survive from a EQ from a Adamant 252 Landorus-T.

Came up with something as a result of some discussion on discord. Behold the one true counter:

Blissey-Pokemon-Go.png

Blissey @ Leftovers / Mago Berry ( / Icium Z / Firium Z )
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Calm Mind
- Ice Beam
- Softboiled
- Substitute / Flamethrower / Toxic / Minimize / Thunderbolt

Blissey/Chansey seemed like really good checks in the first few days of USUM until we realised that +6 Z Draco bops them and Naga can very easily boost to that. But what if Blissey has SpD boosts? That's where this innovative set comes into play.

Full special bulk Blissey can switch into boosted Naga and start boosting right in front of it.

+2 236 SpA Naganadel Devastating Drake (195 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 190-225 (52.4 - 62.1%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

+2 236 SpA Naganadel Draco Meteor vs. +1 252 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 84-100 (23.2 - 27.6%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

+4 236 SpA Naganadel Draco Meteor vs. +2 252 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 96-114 (26.5 - 31.4%) -- 19.3% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

+6 236 SpA Naganadel Devastating Drake (195 BP) vs. +2 252 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 190-225 (52.4 - 62.1%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

+6 236 SpA Naganadel Draco Meteor vs. +3 252 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 102-121 (28.1 - 33.4%) -- 94.3% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

+2 0 SpA Blissey Ice Beam vs. 20 HP / 0 SpD Naganadel: 138-164 (91.3 - 108.6%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

0 SpA Blissey Subzero Slammer (175 BP) vs. 20 HP / 0 SpD Naganadel: 136-160 (90 - 105.9%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO

Lefties / Mago doesn't really matter. Lefties is the traditional item but Mago might actually be better.

Sub is cool with Mago because it activates the berry after taking a Z move and puts you around 60% with a healthy Sub which makes setting up on Naga even easier, but it's also good for scouting switches. Flamethrower hurts Ferrothorn. Toxic hurts switches. Minimize is Minimize. Thunderbolt hurts Gyarados switch ins.

Unfortunately you have to use special bulk on this set so physical attackers bop it. I considered Maranga Berry with a bold spread but the calcs were kinda bad still. Icium Z is an option for quick damage. Same with Firium on Ferro.

There was talk of a Z Snatch Blissey which sounded really funny (+2 speed and steals the Nasty Plot) but relies on the Naga boosting and doesn't outspeed if the Naga got a kill so I decided against nominating it. There were also a bunch of other mons thrown around in the chat so I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else posts. Ttar / Heatran work but I wanna see AV Regice / banded Mamoswine etc lol.
The thing about Naganadel is that you're never going to be able to counter it if you're not running dedicated stall or really REALLY fat teams, and even then you're only going to have some very niche picks to chose from. This, alongside with majority of BSS teams being offense / balance, I find that a check is much more realistic. So I present to you all, the single most broken pokemon to ever roam Battle Spot.

Mimikyu @ Mimikium Z
Ability: Disguise
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Shadow Claw
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Sneak / Curse

I'm sure you all know exactly what this does. Alongside being a natural check to a plethora of threats, Mimikyu is particularly good here because it doesn't take up your sash / scarf slot, which is what I really really like about it. Having the ability to check Naganadel in the ability is what sells this for me, since with sash mons you have to worry about getting it in safely without breaking sash via rocks / sand. Similarly with scarf mons, you can find yourself being locked into a move that you don't really want. The free move selection and not having to worry about the issues which scarf and sash mons face is why I love Mimikyu as an answer.

252+ Atk Mimikyu Let's Snuggle Forever vs. 20 HP / 0 Def Naganadel: 180-213 (119.2 - 141%) -- guaranteed OHKO

EVs: 220 HP / 252 SpA / 36 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Flash Cannon
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Ice]

This Heatran set is a great pivot that gives off a ton of offensive pressure when it gets in on a variety of Pokemon due to its typing and added bulk due to the AV.

252+ SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Naganadel: 146-174 (97.9 - 116.7%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

252 SpA Naganadel Hidden Power Ground vs. 220 HP / 36 SpD Assault Vest Heatran: 88-104 (45.3 - 53.6%) -- 21.9% chance to 2HKO
+2 252 SpA Naganadel Hidden Power Ground vs. 220 HP / 36 SpD Assault Vest Heatran: 168-200 (86.5 - 103%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO

Due to Heatran's phenomenal coverage in this set and the offensive investment, Earth Power does respectable damage on switchins if Naga want to switch, further giving the user of this Heatran the advantage vs Naganadel and its team. Most Naganadel do not even use Hidden Power (19.x% usage) so any set of Heatran can work but this set even handles Hidden Power Ground variants reliably. In the current metagame, Mega Salamence is not being used as much but Hidden Power Ice is to not become setup fodder for it and also gives you the ability to mess with unsuspecting Landorus-T who are at an all-time high for BSS usage and just general ability to hit things hard on a prediction since this is such a scary pivot that typically forces switchins to Pokemon who would not appreciate the chip damage from EP or the potential to just faint from a read HP Ice.

This set is not a Naganadel specific set either. It has been used in previous seasons to be a reliable check for Electrium Z Tapu Koko and a counter to its other sets and Tapu Lele, two very powerful threats in this format as well. This set will certainly help you in your BSS endeavors.

cant say's Blissey

I feel like Blissey has untapped potential as a bulky wincon and the idea of running Subzero Slammer on it is memey as hell and I love it. Sash Lele probably would've gotten my vote if it had Taunt slashed onto the set; Taunt Sash Lele is really nice for 1v1ing Aegislash and it can't do it with 4 attacks

(Heatran is the one true counter tho it deserves the win this week)

Honestly the fact that Lele even learns Taunt completely slipped my mind; it is definitely a good option though.
Gonna vote for Mimikyu because it is absolute cancer, its high usage definitely says a lot about how easily it can be splashed on teams, and also it gets the job done. IMO Shadow Sneak is really nice though, I would slash Curse with Shadow Claw.

Same logic as the post I have linked above. Mimikyu will lose its Disguise in the process of revenge killing Naganadel and even max Special Defense Heatran will take heavy damage from boosted Devastating Drake. Assuming we play correctly, Blissey will be healthy by the time Naganadel has been taken down and therefore it has significantly better chance to do more work.

Victim of the Week 42 - Stakataka

stakataka.gif

Up next we have another new Pokemon, Stakataka. Despite its not so great Rock/Steel typing, Stakataka more than makes up for it with its amazing 61/211/101 defenses, great 131 Attack and decent movepool. Its also has Trick Room and a base 13 Speed to abuse it, meaning that Stakataka's Gyro Ball will hit most targets with full power. So, how do you deal with this mon?

Submissions will be closed in 4 days from now. Good Luck!

Look no farther than z-ghost aegislash. Outside of tr aegislash outspeeds and ohkos with z-shadow ball and under tr aegi lives an eq with ease in shield form, then proceeds to knock out stak clean with the z move.

So... Stakataka. This is very interesting Ultra Beast. Trick Room screws over offensive teams that are unprepared, and Continental Crush and Tectonic Rage removes Celesteela and Toxapex / Megagross / Aegislash, respectively. Due to insanely powerful Gyro Ball and acceptable coverage options, I think the most conventional way to counter this 'mon is using Landorus-T.

1) Offensively

0 Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Stakataka: 168-196 (100 - 116.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Any variant lacking Shuca Berry is cleanly OHKOed by Earthquake. Also there is notable fact that some Stakataka tend to run 15 Defense (or whatever) with Lonely nature, making Landorus-T's job easier.

2) Defensively

-1 252+ Atk Stakataka Gyro Ball (150 BP) vs. 236 HP / 244+ Def Landorus-Therian: 75-88 (38.6 - 45.3%) -- 10.2% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Stakataka Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 236 HP / 244+ Def Landorus-Therian: 132-156 (68 - 80.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

The first calc shows how Landorus-T can take two Gyro Ball with very good chances even when SR is up. If Speed creep isn't needed and 252 / 252+ spread is used, the chance of Gyro Ball 2HKOing Landorus-T after SR is reduced to 1.2%.

The second calc is how Landorus-T laughs at Z-move, and the third calc shows Landorus-T can revenge kill Stakataka even after it gained an attack with Beast Boost.

3) Others

Stakataka seemed to exert its potential fully when it is used in teams that are dedicated to Trick Room. That said, Landorus-T is able to pivot against predicted switches thanks to its ability to naturally threaten Mawile and rare Alolan Marowak, remove Eviolite and pinch berries from Porygon2 and Cresselia, and to screw over Trick Room Mimikyu by breaking its Disguise and pivoting out of possible Curse. It also sets Stealth Rock to make sure no random Focus Sash will ruin the match.

Oh it also OHKO's stakataka lacking defense investment higher than 252hp / 44def.

The EVs may seem odd, however this assures that banded Stakatac might not break a sub with gyro ball so Trapinch can fish for a fissure or bop the next mon with an attack after it kills stakarattatatat-a (+1 lonely cannot break the sub with gyro ball but idk why you would spam gyro ball). With 100 attack EVs, Bronzong can 2HKO 252 HP/ 4 Def Stakataka with EQ. The rest is invested into Defense to make Bronzong as physically bulky as possible. Bronzong hard walls Stakataka. Stakataka's strongest move against Bronzong, Continental Crush coming off of Stone Edge, does less than 41%, and its second strongest move, Superpower, does at most 36.7%, and also lowers Stak's attack. Furthermore, Stakataka runs Earthquake about twice as often as it runs Superpower, and Rockium Z sees less than 4% usage. Bronzong also doesn't give two shakes of a rat's tail about Gyro Ball, which Stakataka loves to spam mindlessly:

Sorry about all the slashes on items, I honestly have no clue what to put on this thing. Rocky Helmet and Wiki Berry help Bronzong well Stakataka the most optimally. Wiki Berry is the best pinch Berry on Bronzong since it will confuse Pokemon with a -SpA nature, and since most Bug Bite users are -SpA physical attackers, they will confuse themselves if they try to eat its berry. Kasib Berry is there so you can break Mimikyu's disguise even if it gets to +2, Occa Berry is the most used item on Bronzong, Bronzong can tank a super-effective hit with its great bulk and become a threat with Weakness Policy, and safety goggles are there so you can beat Breloom, especially if you need to Trick Room against it.

All right, submissions are now closed! There are to be no edits of your own Pokemon, nor are there to be any new submissions. A few quick things to note;
  • Voting will close on the 12/24 at 10:00pm GMT-2 (9:00pm EST), where the next Vitim Of The Week will also be announced
  • You can't vote for your own submission
  • You can only change your vote once, so think carefully before doing so
  • You can vote even if you haven't made a submission. It is expected that you vote if you did submit yourself, but not compulsory

So...
