SV UU Alpha Gengar Guide

:bw/gengar:

Type: Ghost/Poison
Base Stats: HP: 60/Atk: 65/Def: 60/SpA: 130/SpD: 75/Spe: 110
Ability: Cursed Body (When a pokemon with cursed body is hit by a move, there is a 30% chance that move will become disabled for 4 turns)
Notable Moves: Hex, Shadow Ball, Toxic, Taunt, Toxic Spikes, Will-O-Wisp, Trick, Nasty Plot, Sludge Bomb, Focus Blast
Notable Items: Air Balloon, Black Sludge, Choice Scarf, Choice Specs, Heavy Duty Boots, Leftovers, Life Orb

Pros:
-Gengar has a massive base special attack stat, and is very fast as well, outspeeding pokemon such as Iron Jugulis and Pawmot.
-Gengar is one of the most versatile pokemon in the tier, being able to run a multitude of sets and fit on multiple team styles very well.
-Gengar's typing has very few switch-ins to both of its stabs, and it can cover its weakness to dark types like Bisharp with focus blast.
-Gengar has the ability to handle fairy attacks, and can spinblock and ignore powerful normal and fighting moves.
-Gengar can cripple walls with trick, toxic, or will-o-wisp, and can also use them as set up opportunity with either substitute or nasty plot.

Cons:
-Gengar is incredibly frail, which makes it very hard to get onto the field safely.
-While Gengar is very fast, it still gets outsped by the really fast pokemon in the tier, such as Kilowattrel and Noivern.
-Gengar is very susceptible to being revenge killed by priority moves like bullet punch and accelerock, since it has very poor physical bulk.
-Non Choice Item/Nasty Plot sets can often have a hard time breaking through special walls that can deal with toxic, like Tinkaton and Blissey.

While the Pros heavily outweigh the Cons, you still need to be wary of Gengar's weaknesses to be able to get the best results with it.

Some Good Teammates:
:bw/quagsire:
Quagsire pairs very well with Gengar, since it can handle ground type attackers that threaten gengar, as well as set up hazards and spread toxic, which is very beneficial for Gengar since it becomes even more threatening when everything trying to switch into it takes hazard and toxic damage. In return, Gengar can help Quagsire by punishing grass types that try and come in and kill Quagsire.

:sv/tauros-paldea-fire:
Fire Tauros is one of the best dark type switch-ins, which is very useful for Gengar since dark types are constantly threatening it when they come in. Fire Tauros is also good at removing Tinkaton, which Gengar can't do a whole lot to unless it has will-o-wisp. Water Tauros is also a very good partner for it, since it can remove ground type pokemon that give Gengar trouble.

:sv/slither-wing:
Slither Wing is another good check to offensive dark types that threaten Gengar, as well as having a ground resist to have it more easily come in on attacks aimed at Gengar. It can also revenge kill pokemon faster than Gengar with first impression, and can bring Gengar in safely with U-turn.

:bw/rotom-mow:
Rotom Mow is a great answer to ground types that switch in on Gengar like Hippowdon and Gastrodon, and is able to both spread status with will-o-wisp to aid Gengar using hex, as well as being able to use volt switch to get Gengar onto the field safely.

Overall, Gengar is an amazing pokemon in Under Used due to its incredible offensive power, speed, and versatility. Gengar is capable of acting as a wallbreaker, stall breaker, set up sweeper, and late game cleaner, and is an amazing addition to any team.
Hopefully my post helps you get a good understanding on how to use Gengar, and thank you for reading this post.

Gengar is the best Pokémon in UU currently. It is ridiculously hard to play against due to its sheer versatility and knock out power. Once it's set is scouted its a little easier to deal with but not very much. It has ways to nullify potential counters such as Trick and disable. Nasty Plot destroys almost anything slower and Scarf is great revenge killer due to great coverage and destiny bond. It is a absolute behemoth.
