Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Slack Off
- Toxic
- Calm Mind / Iron Defense

Mega Slowbro hard walls Mega Tyranitar, taking pitiful damage from its STABs even at +1.

+1 252+ Atk Tyranitar-Mega Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 151-178 (38.3 - 45.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after sandstorm damage

This can easily be slacked off on and you can threaten Tyranitar out with a Scald.

0 SpA Slowbro-Mega Scald vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar-Mega in Sand: 126-150 (36.8 - 43.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

For the 4th move slot, you can run either Calm Mind or Iron Defense depending on your preference. Calm Mind is for sweeping while Iron Defense makes it unkillable vs physical threats.

Keldeo can even manage to survive any move at +1 and any move but EQ at +2 and easily OHKO Ttar-Mega with Secret Sword, easy stuff, Scarf allows you to outspeed +1 Tyranitar. You can run Naive if you want to check Tyranitar-Mega better while still getting a guaranteed KO in non-Charti Volcarona and have 50% chance of KOing ZardY with Stone Edge, but Keldeo become a worse Ash-Greninja check.
252 SpA Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar-Mega: 388-460 (113.7 - 134.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Lopunny-Mega as a CHECK

Lopunny-Mega @ Lopunnite
Ability: Limber
EVs: 252 Attk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Return
- Power-up Punch
- Ice Punch / Fake Out
Lopunny-Mega certainly did fall off this generation, but it's still a decent pokemon. It outspeeds Mega T-tar even at +1 (mega lopunny hits 398 with 224 evs which is just enough, though I put max speed because of ashgren and koko) and just OHKOes with HJK. The set is relatively straightforward - Dual STAB, PuP to have a chance at breaking past some of its bulkier checks, and either Ice Punch for Lando or Fake Out for Webs.
252 Atk Lopunny-Mega High Jump Kick vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar-Mega: 616-732 (180.6 - 214.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
However, it's not a good idea to switch it in, as Mega T-tar will get off huge damage with EQ and even SE:
+1 252 Atk Tyranitar-Mega Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Lopunny-Mega: 204-240 (75.2 - 88.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage
+1 252 Atk Tyranitar-Mega Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Lopunny-Mega: 153-180 (56.4 - 66.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage

While you could switch in your Lopunny hard they'd likely predict and click DD again, meaning your Lopunny now fails to do much vs. T-tar. It best comes in on the predicted first DD or on a free switch after its been boosted. Thus, it's a check - though a very good one indeed.

Greninja can come in(not directly) outspeed even at +2(lol) and kill Tyranitar with Low Kick due to Stone Godzilla(Tyranitar)'s 4x weakness to fighting. You can't enter on Tyranitar Mega because +1 Stone Edge murders Greninja

Terrakion @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Close Combat
- Rock Slide
- Toxic / Earthquake

With a Choice Scarf, Terrakion outspeeds Mega Tyranitar even if it's at +1, and its typing allows it to switch in on any of its moves (with the exception of Earthquake) and OHKO with Close Combat.

However, if Tyranitar manages to reach +1, Terrakion can only switch in on Fire Punch.

Offensive:

Breloom has access to STAB Technician Mach Punch, which ignores Mega Tyranitar's speed boosts and OHKOes it after Stealth Rock. Concequently, it stands in the way of a Mega Tyranitar sweep. It's pretty self-explanatory.

WoW and Pain Split or WoW + Hydro Pump are the combination of moves you need to KO Mega Tyranitar.
The former choice is safer than the latter one because, this way, you neuter the Atk boosts from 2 Dragon Dances at once.

Regular Scizor as a check. Either mega or regular scizor running Superpower can OHKO and is a tiny bit faster than Mega-Tar, so it can come in on Stone Edge, Earthquake, or Ice punch (but not on D-Dance or Fire punch) and OHKO. The only thing is, Scizor has to run jolly rather than the more common adamant nature. Even if T-Tar gets a dance up, most builds can do a good amount of damage with Bullet Punch, and then T-Tar is easy enough to revenge kill with its mediocre speed, even at +1.

Needless to say, any T-Tar without Fire Punch is wrecked by Scizor. But even against a Fire Punch set, Scizor can do a job.

Even in a more defensive build, with no attack EVs and a jolly nature can alway OHKO with Superpower, and T-Tar cannot OHKO with Fire Punch:

Checks: Choice Scarf Keldeo and Choice Scarf Greninja
Mega Scizor is a really mediocre check to Mega Tyranitar IMO. Even if it's running a fully physically defensive spread (which imo it should be in this meta unless ur looking to do jank shit like outrunning Magnezone or smth, and even then it should be running phys investment) and Superpower (this sounds bad but lets run with it), it only does around 40% with Bullet Punch while failing to outrun even unboosted Mega Tyranitar, forcing it to eat a Fire Punch before it can use Superpower while almost always being OHKOed if Tyranitar boosts to +1 as it switches in. In addition, if it is attacked while it switches in it is forced to BP anyway 'cause FP OHKOs after any attack other than Ice Punch. If it comes in on a free switch and Mega Tyranitar is not boosted, it is very easy to take advantage of Scizor's passivity with the plethora of other checks, especially when you consider that a Tyranitar which is at the stage in the game where it isn't boosting up yet is probably not going to stay in to get chunked by BP, and while Scizor can grab momentum with U-turn off of this, it still means that your method of checking it hasn't even really achieved that much while undermining the purpose of running Superpower.

The rest of the checks are fine imo. Hippo feels a little too shaky for my liking though, being forced to stall for HP with Slack Off (risking a freeze) before it can safely click Whirlwind or EQ vs Tar and being chunked before using 'Wind if Tar boosts on its Slack Offs. Rotom-W isn't really switching in vs Mega Tyranitar, and I think that a faster spread (e.g. one that creeps Bulu or Magearna or smth) would be better suited to checking Mega Tyranitar due to actually being able to switch in and then get a Wisp off vs it without risking a 2HKO from unboosted SEdge. I also do not feel that Ash Greninja is that consistent of a check to Mega Tyranitar due to the fact that it is outpaced and OHKOed by +1 Mega Tyranitar before transformation while still being cucked by Mega Tyranitar if it is under Aurora Veil (which is a very real possibility, especially in the current metagame).

My reason for picking the two of the remaining checks that I have simply comes down to the fact that I feel they are the most viable checks to Mega Tyranitar in the current metagame which are not only used on one subset of an archetype (see: Mega Swampert). Choice Scarf Keldeo doesn't really have anything to fear from Mega Tyranitar outside of +2 EQs when healthy and 2HKOes with Secret Sword if Aurora Veil is active on Tyranitar's side of the field. That said, I disagree with the way that moves are slashed on the listed set because I feel that Choice Scarf Keldeo is not going to viable without Stone Edge while Volcarona is still popular. Scarf Low Kick Gren does have to fear Mega Tyranitar if it is under Aurora Veil, but it is a consistent stop to it outside of Aurora Veil due to not needing to transform like is the case with Ash Greninja if it wants to RK it at +1.
Counters: Quagsire and Mega Slowbro
Scarf Tapu Bulu may be a counter in the literal sense, but practically speaking it is only a check and is not something I would consider worth using in the current metagame; not only can it only switch in on Mega Tyranitar once (which is terrible considering that it will generally just click attacks until it is in a position to set up and sweep), but it also involves running a Tapu Bulu set which hasn't done anything at all since January due to a combination of it not really being that potent vs offense like is the case with Tapu Lele or pre-MegaGross-ban Scarf Hoopa-U.

As for Pyukumuku, this Pokemon is not viable without Baton Pass; it is as simple as that.

Mega Slowbro and Quagsire are both consistent counters to Mega Tyranitar, although the latter can be set up to +2 (assuming no scald burn) vs and chunked by rarer Crunch variants.
