Metagame PU Pokemon of the Week

Personally I like and hate standard Charcoal 3 attacks + Morning Sun at the same time. For some reason I tend to slap it on half of my teams mostly because of its ability to check Fire-types. However, Rapidash is so incredibly easy to wall it's not even funny. Even though it has pretty amazing coverage between Flare Blitz, Wild Charge, and Drill Run, its coverage moves hit like a wet towel paper and usually do not even 2HKO their targets. What I really like is using Rapidash in sun, as Solar Beam defeats 90% of its 'counters' which are mainly bulky Rock- and Water-types, while a sun-boosted Flare Blitz deals with other resists, mainly Grumpig. Unfortunately you do need a Life Orb to OHKO your targets with Solar Beam and have to forgo Morning Sun but sun is usually all in anyway and you usually don't want to waste sun turns on using Morning Sun.

Pokemon of the Week for Week 6 is Chatot! (Sorry for missing last week)
chatot.gif

Chatot
Base Stats: 76 HP / 65 Atk / 45 Def / 92 SpA / 42 SpD / 91 Spe
Abilities: Big Pecks / Keen Eye / Tangled Feet
Ever since the ban of Chatter, Chatot has been a very overlooked Pokemon in the PU tier. Its access to Boomburst sets it apart greatly from other special attackers and with Choice Specs or a Choice Scarf, it can be very deadly. Let us get started!

chatot is incredibly powerful w/ boomburst and a fun mon to use despite havnig an incredibly annoying speed tier. it's a pretty decent wallbreaker and a cool option although sr weak which obv sucks but if you can fire off a few boombursts it's more than done its job. it can also lure shit like probopass and bop it w/ hp ground and ohkoes pawniard and also specs OHKOES offensive carracosta after sr + 5% ish damage. it's really cool but provides 0 defensive utility and is very priority vulnerable; i would say that it's ok if u support it with the team (with it as a breaker and another sweeper, plus a defensive backbone of sorts) and it doesn't require too much prediction.

The Pokemon of the Week for Week 7 is Stoutland! (again, sorry for missing last week)

Stoutland
Base Stats: 85 HP / 110 Atk / 90 Def / 45 SpA / 90 SpD / 80 Spe
Abilities: Intimidate / Sand Rush / Scrappy
Stoutland is well known as one of the best wallbreakers in the tier with its high Attack stat along with its spammable STAB(s). It is mainly run with a Choice Band with Sand Rush or Scrappy, the latter of the two allowing Stoutland to spam its Normal-type moves at will. Lets discuss what role Stoutland fulfills in the current meta, what checks it, and what partners well with it.

I will talk a bit about the roles Stoutland can fullfill and its sets.
Stoutland is able to fullfill various roles in the current metagames, thanks to its plenty abilities, which combined with its high Attack and decent bulk, open a few options to it. The most common and famous one is the Choice Band / Silk Scarf set, and for good reasons: Scrappy allows Stoutland to basically mindless spam a strong STAB Return which along with an high Attack stat, is able to decimate even foes that resist it. It also doesn't fear status such as burn, as it usually runs Facade, which makes it even more threatening. This Stoutland set performs well against both offensive and defensive teams, because its ok bulk allows it to take most attacks, and retaliate back OHKOing a foe most of the time against offense, which have really few switch-ins against it, so something has to die. While against defensive-ish teams, it's just a steamroll, as this wallbreaker is hardly stoppable if not pressured enough, and common defensive Pokemon such as Clefairy, Togetic, and Lickilicky, don't carry enough sheer power to bring it down in time. Another good set is the Sand Rush one: this works better as a sweeper/cleaner, because it has access to an high Speed tier under sand, though it can't spam Return anymore because of the loss of Scrappy, so it's better used when Ghost-types such as Misdreavus and Gourgeist are eliminated, which can be caught off guard anyway by Crunch. I found this set lethal against offensive teams, as they often don't carry any safe switch in for it and just rely on soft checking the Scrappy set, which is way slower. The last set I have in mind is the Choice Scarf one that got brought into PUPL lately. I feel like this has a lot of potential, as it can surprise and outspeed various offensive threats such as Floatzel and Simipour, while still carrying enough power to OHKO most of them and once again by denying the possibility to offensive teams to soft check it, though it is easily checked by Pokemon that are gaining popularity such as Tangela, and people are recognising it so they are more weary, so I expect this to lose effectiveness during the time.

Now I would like to see the discussion be focused more on its competition with Pokemon such as Ursaring and Sawsbuck, as this has been an hot topic lately.

Now I would like to see the discussion be focused more on its competition with Pokemon such as Ursaring and Sawsbuck, as this has been an hot topic lately.
I feel that just because Stoutland has more options than Ursaring & Sawsbuck that it'd be just flat-out better but, it's iffy to say that because it sounds too easy to generalize it like that. Ursaring has 20 more Atk than Stoutland but, Stoutland has better bulk & speed. Stoutland also has more leniency in his moves due to his abilities. At the same time you could say that Stoutland gets immediate power quicker in sand than Ursaring's quick feet, that's not completely true though, you still need to set-up the sand. Since Stoutland is faster in sand, Ursaring is stronger even if Stoutland has a choice band as it's held item due to the fact that just how Hippopotas needs to come in first so it can get up sand for Stoutland, Ursaring has a turn to set up a swords dance before it's toxic orb triggers it's ability. So, in my opinion it's +2 Quick Feet Poisoned Ursaring V.S. Choice Banded Sand Rush Stoutland.
Stoutland hits 518 speed in sand & 525 atk with choice band. Ursaring hits 343-344 (343.5) speed thanks to quick feet & toxic orb & hits 718 atk after a swords dance. Choice scarfed Raichu can handle both of these threats with a simple focus blast; other pokemon such as Volbeat, Aurorus (choice scarfed/snow warning), & tangela can be annoying for these two power houses as well. Ursaring isn't as limited with moves like Stoutland since Stoutland can only choose one move due to choice band. You could use Life Orb, by the way, & it's atk would hit 455. Close Combat can be more useful than Super Power when it comes to sweeping since Super Power lowers the atk & Close Combat does not. Ursaring does have an immediate toxic boosted facade while Stoutland does not. Stoutland doesn't as bad of a timer as Ursaring since it can switch to Hippopotas for more sand (if it's not fainted) while Ursaring loses out on a lot of HP due to poison. Ursaring can run Seed Bomb for Carracosta to get an immediate OHKO, while Stoutland would have to rely on Super Power. Ursaring does get outsped by scarfed Mr.Mime & Life Orb Zebstrika & risks taking too much damage while Stoutland can just outspeed both & knock them out. I feel that both of them are even since they are both excellent late-game sweepers & early/mid-game surprises & both almost have the same amount of threats. Also, I feel that quick feet Ursaring is slightly better than wall-breaking scrappy Stoutland due to speed, power, & flexibility. Don't know much about choice scarf Stoutland though, so just as a guess, I would say that Ursaring is better in some ways due to hitting harder while at the same time Stoutland is better in other ways due to immediate speed with the choice scarf.
I would say Chlorophyll Sawsbuck is better than Sand Rush Stoutland due to the fact that the sun team Sawsbuck would be on is better in a lot of ways than the sand team Stoutland would be on. Sawsbuck is faster, hits harder (thanks to swords dance) & can deal with some threats better than Stoutland when it comes to sweeping (referring to Carracosta on this). Tangela is a nice stop to both of them though. Sawsbuck by itself though isn't as good as Stoutland by itself in my opinion. Sawsbuck gets outclassed by Leafeon due to bulk & power while Stoutland doesn't really get outclassed by anything. Stoutland does it's wall-breaking job really well thanks to the ability, "scrappy". Sawsbuck has issues due to the speed tier it's in & the power it lacks sometimes. Sawsbuck tends to lack a lot of things while Stoutland just has really great support, not much else to say in my opinion.

The Pokemon of the Week for Week 8 is Simipour! (aka me

)
simipour.gif

Simipour
Base Stats: 75 HP / 98 Atk / 63 Def / 98 SpA / 63 SpD / 101 Spe
Abilities: Gluttony / Torrent
Simipour is well known as one if the tier's premier wallbreakers because of its high Special Attack and Speed along with its access to coverage moves such as Ice Beam, Grass Knot, Low Kick, and Knock Off, that can lure in a lot of common Pokemon. It can also make use of a Nasty Plot set, allowing it to be a threatening sweeper, or a Choice Scarf set that allows it to be a great revenge killer. Some have even considered it broken, as it makes stall unviable. Let's discuss your thoughts on Simipour.

(also cheers for 400 posts :p)

I'll talk about Simipour a little bit.

Simipour is a real interesting Pokemon in PU, being able to fill a variety of roles in the meta. With excellent offensive stats of 98 / 98 and a pretty decent 101 Speed tier, Simipour can make for a huge threat in the PU meta. The Mixed Attacker set is arguably one if the best sets in the meta for a multitude of reasons. First, which I already mentioned, are great mixed attacking stats, and a pretty decent Speed tier. Both these factors coupled with a deep movepool with coverage moves such as Ice Beam, Grass Knot, Low Kick, and Knock Off is an interesting option to defeat its checks like Grumpig and Hypno, while removing Eviolite from Clefairy and Roselia. Finally, Taunt is an interesting option to use, as it cripples most defensive checks to it. A set that intrigues me is the Sub + NP + Salac Berry set. After a Nasty Plot and a Torrent boost, not much is taking a STAB Hydro Pump from this thing. Getting in cleanly is a tough task, so use a slow Volt Switch / U-Turn user to get it in unscathed. It's best that you use this late game when most of your opponents team is weakened so you can sweep the opponents team cleanly. All in all, Simipour is an extremely huge threat to anyone wanting to team-build in this tier, so make sure to pack a few checks to it, otherwise, you'll have an extremely tough time wearing it down. Finally, here are some Damage Calculations to show the power of Sub + NP Simipour. Enjoy. ^_^

+2 252 SpA Torrent Simipour Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Grumpig: 298-352 (81.8 - 96.7%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

+2 252 SpA Torrent Simipour Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Regice: 240-283 (65.9 - 77.7%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

+2 252 SpA Torrent Simipour Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Lickilicky: 330-388 (77.8 - 91.5%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Also here's a free Simipour gif cause it's cute.

The Pokemon of the Week for Week 9 is Meowstic-F!
meowstic-f.gif

Meowstic-F
Base Stats: 74 HP / 48 Atk / 76 Def / 83 SpA / 81 SpD / 104 Spe
Abilities: Competitive / Infiltrator / Keen Eye
Also known as "Competitive(ly terrible) Sweeper" Meowstic-F is an often overlooked Pokemon in the PU metagame because of its weaker Special Attack and its lack of Prankster, unlike its male counterpart. Its access to Competitive along with its base 104 Speed can allow it to be a threatening sweeper when switched into a Defog. Lets talk about how Meowstic-F's niche in PU over other Psychic-types such as Mr. Mime and Beheeyem!
