Project Pokemon Matchmaking v2 [Closed]

jirachi.gif

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SpD / 32 Spe
Careful Nature
- Iron Head
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
- Healing Wish

Hydreigon dislikes Fairy types like Clefable, Mega Diancie, and Mega Gardevoir. Faster Pokemon like Latios also pose trouble, threatening to revenge kill Hydreigon with a Draco Meteor. Jirachi helps Hydreigon in these regards by serving as a reliable and durable check to said Pokemon. Aside from this, Jirachi supports Hydreigon in a few other ways. For starters, it's able to use U-turn to provide Hydreigon with the chance to come in for free versus common Jirachi switch ins like Skarm, Slowbro, defensive Lando-T, and so on. From there, Hydreigon can apply serious offensive pressure on the other team with the appropriate move. Secondly, Jirachi can lay down SR to help Hydreigon pressure its switch-ins even further. Finally we have Healing Wish, which is useful to give Hydreigon another chance to do its thing once low on health.

Because Jirachi is a flexible Pokemon, another thing worth mentioning is how Choice Scarf is an alternative here depending on your team. With this, Jirachi can still do everything discussed above (Fairy check, Latios check, U-turn, Healing Wish), although with less durability. The additional advantage, however, is now being able to revenge kill or check a bunch of faster threats Hydreigon is threatened by, examples being Mega Lop, Terrak, and more. Jirachi is a solid choice overall, possessing natural type synergy with Hydreigon and supporting its partner really well in various ways.

Mega metagross is a really good partner for hydreigon, esoecially because it checks fairy pokemons as mega gardevoir, mega altaria and clefable which are an issue for hydra because of its typing, also with bullet punch and hammer harm metagross can deal with weavile and tyranitar, which are another two pokemons that can put pressure Hydra, finally he checks dragons as garchomp, latios, mega latias very well, instead hydra checks bulky psychic types as mew, slowbro, slowking, also he can deal with steel types like skarm and mega scizor using fire blast.

Hammer is for heatran, isn't he?
252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Metagross Meteor Mash vs. 248 HP / 80+ Def Tyranitar: 324-384 (80.3 - 95.2%) -- 50% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
I guess it's for the guaranteed ohko but still :x

Week 73: Wisp + Protect Mega Gardevoir
gardevoir-mega.gif

Gardevoir-Mega (F) @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Focus Blast
- Will-O-Wisp
- Protect

latios.gif

Latios @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Surf
- Trick

So Wisp+Protect Megavoir's draw is its ability to perform better against certain opponents (Scarfrachi, Tyranitar, Bisharp, Scarf Lando-T, etc.) by complicating prediction games around Pursuit and/or Choice items. But since it has no Psychic coverage, it can't do much to bulky Poison-types (read: Mega Venusaur, Amoonguss, and the rare Tentacruel), SpD Talonflame, Zard Y, or Volcarona. Chansey really loves that Mega Gardevoir has to use Focus Blast to touch it. Specs Latios is a meme, but it's also actually good. It blasts Poison-types apart (and, since they're primarily Grass- and Water-types, switches in too) while taking chunks out of the three Fire-type Fighting-resists I mentioned. Meanwhile, it really loves having Pursuit users crippled with WoW and having Steel-types worn down by Mega Gardevoir.

talonflame.gif

Talonflame @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Tailwind

The M-Garde set provided notably compromises its ability to check Mega Venusaur and Amoongus in its choice of Will-O-Wisp over Psyshock. Furthermore, the set is, like all M-Garde sets, checked by Gengar, fire types, and pretty much every physical attacker faster than it. Here is where the following Talonflame set comes into play. Choice Band Brave Bird is nearly guaranteed to destroy the bulky Grass/Poison types that this set hates, and Choice Band Flare Blitz is good for picking off burned or healthy Steel types. U-Turn is incredibly useful for pivoting Mega Gardevoir in, since many of Talonflame's checks, like Rotom Wash, Zapdos, non-Scarf Tar, and Slowbro are all checked by M-Garde. The unconventionality of this set comes from Tailwind. Hell hath no fury like a Mega Gardevoir that cannot be outsped. While things like Scarf Excadrill and Scarf Lando slightly edge out this particular M-Garde set even under Tailwind, things like Scarf Tar, Gengar, Band Terrakion, Scarf Magnezone, and oftentimes Weavile will find they don't have such an opportunity when they get smacked by Hyper Voice or Focus Blast first.

garchomp.gif

Garchomp @ Lum Berry / Life Orb
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Stealth Rock / Fire Fang

Garchomp is a natural partner for Mega Gardevoir to punish Pokemon like Jirachi, Scizor and Heatran who tries to switch into Hyper Voice (or pressuring them if they are already hit by Wisp). Swords Dance allows Garchomp to wallbreak against Chansey, Ferrothorn and Mega Venusaur without being forced to use Focus Blast. Rocks for chipping away at the opponent's health while Life Orb +2 Fire Fang also allows you to punish Skarmory or weaken it enough to sweep with Gardevoir.

landorus-therian.png

Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 72 HP / 240 Atk / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake

Scarf Lando is a very good partner for mega Gardevoir since it is able to bring her safe in the game optimizing the wallbreak, also Landorus-t, since his ground type its able to deal with Jirachi, scarf Excadrill, Heatran, and can weaken some revenge killers as mega metagross and scarf/chople Magnezone which is pretty good because for example you can scout the magne move using protect and go to the respective switch.

Please run max speed on Scarf Lando-T

magnezone.gif

Magnezone @ Chople Berry / Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 128 HP / 252 SpA / 128 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Fire
- Thunder Wave / Volt Switch
- Flash Cannon / Mirror Coat

While Wisp Gardevoir is capable of baiting steels that normally give it a headache, having the ability to outright eliminate more dangerous ones like Scizor is a nice advantage to have. Be aware that you cannot trap SpD Rachi due to it going for the Jolly Tar benchmark (which outpaces even Timid Zone), but it is still capable of easing the Skarmory matchup as well as the Scizor and Ferrothorn matchups.

Traps and eliminates both Chansey, Tyranitar etc. for Latios. If its sash is in tact it also traps Mega Lopunny, Weavile, Bisharp and other faster 'mons that give it trouble. There are more things, but yeah pretty self-explanatory.

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 60 Def / 200 SpD
Impish Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
- U-turn
- Swords Dance

Mega Scizor is a great teammate for specs Latios, because it threatens pokemon as Weavile, scarf Kyurem black, Metagross mega, mega Gardevoir, Clefable, mega Lopunny Tyranitar, and even from latios and Latias, in exchange our specs Latios offers Scizor cover against Heatran, rotoms, Landorus-t, tankchomps, charizard Y and Charizard x (but only as +0 zard x check), mega Manectric, finally Scizor generates a great momentum that helps to improve Latios's wallbreak during the game.

Lopunny @ Lopunnite
Ability: Limber
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Return
- Fake Out
- Power-Up Punch

Threats to Latios: Pursuit users, pink blobs, any Steel-type that isn't weak to Surf, anything with Knock Off. Just to name a few. Mega Scizor was reserved so I went with Mega Lopunny, which kicks all of these things in the dick, save for like... Mew. It runs PuP so it can pressure Mega Scizor out and leave it susceptible to Latios's Surf. Moreover, Mega Lopunny handles offensive teams while Latios softens up walls for it. It's not terribly complicated.

lucario.gif

Lucario @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Swords Dance
- Extreme Speed
- Crunch / Iron Tail

Lucario discourages Tyranitar and Bisharp from recklessly clicking Pursuit to trap Latios. Close Combat is a powerful STAB move to hit the likes of Ferrothorn and Heatran while also OHKOing Skarmory at +2 (after Rocks). Crunch is used as a coverage option to hit Slowbro and Mew harder although Iron Tail can be used to get rid of Clefable. Meanwhile, Latios scares out Lando-T and Garchomp while giving easier set-up opportunity with Trick.

Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind

We already know how good Keldeo + Latios core is. Keldeo beats stuff that Latios really hates, mons like ttar, mega scizor, bisharp, chansey to name a few. Lacking hp fire on latios means that mega scizor can easily switch into a specs draco or surf, and then just roost the damage off. So Keldeo can switch into mscizor pretty safely most of the time and click scald or hydro to kill scizor. Another reason why Keldeo is a good teammate for Latios is that Keldeo can switch into dark type moves that Latios doesn't like to take from mons like bisharp and weavile and safely kill them with secret sword. Latios also kills or weakens stuff like amoonguss, starmie, av tang for Keldeo. So overall, Keldeo + Latios core is very solid in the current meta.

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 240 HP / 176 Def / 92 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Fire Blast

In general, Dark-types like Bisharp and Tyranitar are probably Latios's biggest issue since they both stop it from being able to do things when it's locked into shit. This is where Tankchomp comes in, being able to hard check both of them and wear away at their HP with Rocky Helmet+Rough Skin. Additionally, Steels that are neutral to Surf like Jirachi, Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor, etc. are really annoying in general as they can pretty much switch into Latios indefinitely, but Tankchomp can deal with all of them really well in between Fire Blast and Earthquake, not to mention that it deters Jirachi and MSciz from attempting to U-turn out an gain momentum, giving you the upper hand. Also, probably get some sort of Steel-type wallbreaker, since Fairies and Chansey are annoying to Latios+Tankchomp

Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 248 Def / 8 SpA / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Since keldeo was already done I've resorted to this. Pokemon such as scarf rachi, heartan, ttar, excadrill, scizor, and ferrothorn all love to come in on a latios and either get momentum, setup hazards, trap it, or do some damage vs your team. Landorus-T can stop all these pokemon from doing anything too bad. Lando-t easily switches into iron heads from jirachi(not ice punch though) and can get up rocks or u-turn for momentum. Although Lando can't switchin to heatran, you can make the double from lati > lando into a free sr/eq. Ferrothorn is something that might stay in thinking that Lando-T can't touch it but hp fire does ~45 so its not a losing battle. Excadrill is hard walled by Lando and can't really dent this mon at all. Scizor is another thing that can be caught off guard by HP Fire, due to its low usage.

Stealth Rock: Obvious choice, no reason not to use rocks on this mon if its used defensively.
EQ: Again, another obvious choice, eq hits ttar, and just is good on this pokemon in general no real need to explain.
Hidden Power: HP Fire beats things like scizor which can try to setup vs a -2 lati, and even vs landorus. HP Fire is just a backup measure vs scizor and other steels that lati may not get past.
U-turn: Gains momentum and can give latios a free kill.

-Speed is used because -SpAtk doesn't beat scizor 1v1.

Week 75: Substitute + Leech Seed Serperior

Serperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 56 HP / 200 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Substitute
- Leech Seed

heatran.gif

Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Taunt
- Lava Plume

Alright so this is a pretty common choice for a partner. Firstly, it gets deals with tornt which is an amazing subseed serp counter as the serp needs to have both a sub, and a leech seed up before it can stall out the torn, which is amazing compared to serp only needing a sub to stall out everything slower than it. Heatran can also switchin to icicle crash from weavile, and even win the 1v1 thanks to its great natural bulk and typing. Another thing heatran beats is scizor. A +2 scizor easily takes advantage of serp, and might also stay in vs heatran thinking they outspeed but will get OHKO'd by lava plume. In return serperior deals with bulky waters such as quagsire, and suicune, and even offensive waters such as keldeo, azumarill, and manaphy which can setup and wall tran.

Landorus is a great partner for Subseed Serperior since it can help him to beat heatrans, Mega charizard x, Talonflame, mega Lopunny, also his great ability to pivoting front of bulky waters like slowbro allows Serperior to have a turn free to set a sweep or put the substitute, I also decided to put on 27 iv Landorus to have a slow U-turn to buy momentum against rotom- w and other Landorus, Finally 28evs allow Landorus you survive a latios draco's no rocks in the field which can be useful when your draco switch in gone and you need to keep Serperior.

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 104 SpD / 184 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake

Mega Charizard X forms a potent core with Serperior, providing a very threatening wallbreaker core that can absolutely dominate common offensive and defensive teams alike. Serperior struggles to break fast fat mons that resist leaf storm while not taking much from its coverage like Jirachi, Volcarona, Amoonguss, Heatran, etc. Zard X takes on these threats beautifully, obliterating all of them with DD+EQ and even luring the annoying Heatran with Earthquake. Aside from that, Zardx+Serp is kinda a classic core and you should know what it does by now. 2 wincons that pair really well together and break through a lot of common builds, simple enough to understand. Also completes 2/3 of a FWG core, but you guys know how I feel about type cores. This is probably the best partner to use with serp for the aforementioned reasons not to mention that its raw strength allows it to bust through fat mons that might give Serperior trouble, and this core is nice because when paired with aggressive double switching, it becomes very difficult for many teams to deal with these two properly at all.

Reserving banded Tyranitar

tyranitar.gif

Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Superpower
- Pursuit

Tyranitar provides Serperior with a reliable switch-in and answer to most of its checks(Talonflame, Heatran, Kyurem-Black, and the Latwins immediately pop up) with either Pursuit, Stone Edge, or Superpower. Tar can essentially break most OU mons physically what Serperior can't specially and vice versa. But mainly, when playing with these two, Tyranitar will be Pursuiting many threats that Serperior doesn't want to deal with in the hopes to whittle them down/kill them, paving the way for a Serperior sweep in the later portion of the match.

EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Ice
- Focus Blast

Pokemon that normally switch into SubSeed Serperior includes Talonflame, Tornadus-T and Heatran. These Pokemon can all be handled by Thundurus, who can also provide valuable Thunder Wave support. In return, Serperior can help to weaken Clefable, Lati@s and Chansey who can stomach Thundurus's attacks. Just pack a Weavile check if you use this.

Keldeo provides the perfect coverage for Serperior's Weaknesses (Talonflame, Heatran, Kyurem-Black, Latios). It has pretty standard moves like scald and secret sword but with icy wind, it now has coverage for fast dragon types like Latios and Kyurem-Black with an 100% to lower their speed.
