Project Pokemon Matchmaking v2 [Closed]

Reserving Azumarill.

Stop living like you walk on water
Looking down on all those left to drown

giphy.gif

Walk on Water (Azumarill) @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Superpower / Knock Off

Choice Banded Azumarill is an excellent partner for Serperior. Since Seprerior needs some Pokemon out of the way in order to clean late game, Azumarill can eliminate most of these Pokemon with relative ease. For example, Azumarill can eliminate fire types such as Heatran and Talonflame and Fairy types, most notably Mega Altaria. In return, Serperior can destroy Steel types such as Ferrothorn and Scizor, while also destroying physical walls after a couple boosts.

Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- V-create
- Bolt Strike
- Zen Headbutt
- U-turn

Victini can readily deal with most of Serperior's checks and counters, or at least severely weakening them, allowing Serperior to blow through them and get a free boost with Leaf Storm. Talonflame, Togekiss Tornadus-T, M-Pidgeot, Starmie, M-Pinsir, Mandibuzz, and Zard-Y get destroyed by Bolt Strike; M-Venusaur, Amoonguss, Gengar, and Scolipede get wrecked by Zen Headbutt; and none of its other answers enjoy stomaching a V-Create, allowing them to get weakened and thus easy set-up bait for Serperior. Brick Break can be run over U-Turn to hit Heatran, if it's preferred.

Serperior Taunt is such a cool set.
I gave it a try in one of my Serperior teams, and here is my nomination:

tornadus-therian.gif

Tornadus-Therian (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 136 HP / 120 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- U-turn
- Hurricane
- Knock Off
- Focus Blast

From my experience, you can bait things like Venusaur-Mega easily, and Taunt them as they try to Synthesis for instance... but what happens next?
You really need an option, you need to send in something to handle an Amoonguss, a Venusaur-Mega et cetera. Tornadus-Therian does that very efficiently.
This core is quite dynamic, because people would often send into Tornadus-Therian their Rotom-Wash, giving Serperior a lot of opportunities to come in and wreak havoc.

Good luck to everybody!

Latias-Mega @ Latiasite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 84 Def / 176 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stored Power
- Surf
- Calm Mind
- Roost

I feel mega Latias would be a very powerful partner for taunt serperior. It cann effectively check mega Venusaur, Amoongus, Mega manectric, Heatran and Thundurus, which can all prove to be rather annoying in an event where Serperior is your wincon. With the use of surf and cm, mega latias can also lure in tran and 2hko it with surf, and also check torn-t, bar confusion of course. Serperior can also help with taking down azumarill which can be troublesome towards mega latias.

A bit low on nominations again this week. Hopefully we can get a few more this week :]

Cut The Cord (Thundurus) @ Leftovers / Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Ice / Hidden Power Flying
- Thunder Wave

Thundurus is a pretty solid partner to Mega Medicham. Due to Mega Medicham being in a clogged speed tier, Thundurus can make use of Thunder Wave to slow down Medicham's much faster threats, such as Mega Alakazam, Gengar, and others. Thundurus can also break down a majority of Medicham's checks and counters, such as Slowbro, Mega Sableye, and a multitude of Flying types. In return, Medicham beats down Mega Venusaur, Chansey, and other defensive walls.

Weavile @ Life Orb
Ability: Pickpocket
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Poison Jab / Pursuit

Weavile pressures bulky Psychics which switch into Mega Medicham such as Reuniclus, Slowbro and Mew while also beating bulky Garchomp, Hippowdon and Landorus-T. It can also lure in Fairy types and 2HKO them with Poison Jab although Pursuit is viable to trap Lati@s. However, this stacks a weakness to Talonflame and Mega Sableye.

bisharp.gif

Bisharp @ BlackGlasses / Lum Berry
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit / Swords Dance

Bisharp can Pursuit trap Latios, Latias, Gengar, Slowbro and Starmie for Mega Medicham, giving it a much easier time cleaning. Otherwise, those three mons would just be able to switch in/revenge kill Mega Medicham. Bisharp has another option of running Swords Dance with Lum Berry, because with the two it is able to weaken/kill Mega Sableye, which is probably the best counter to Mega Medicham (personally, I don't really think it is worth it). As for typing synergy, Bisharp can check most fairy and psychic types that beat Mega Medicham, such as Clefable, Mega Altaria, Sylveon, Mew, Slowbro, Lati@s, Alakzam, and Starmie. Mega Medicham is able to beat the fighting types that like to switch into Bisharp to take a Knock Off. Also, Mega Medicham appreciates hazards up on its opponents field, which Bisharp helps with not only by pursuiting common hazard removers, but also with its ability defiant, which discourages the use of Defog.

Note: Also, for Bisharp's nature, I chose to use jolly because it is nice to outspeed Rotom-w, Landorus-T, neutral speed Mega Altaria, Dragonite, and Gyarados. All of these mons Mega Medicham appreciates weakened so it can clean. Bisharp having a jolly nature allows it to often get off an extra hit on these mons.

EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Calm Nature

- Moonblast

clefable, aswell as fairy types in general, make for really good partners to mega medicham, as they can remove medichams two biggest counters: slowbro and mega sableye. in return, megacham can beat shit like heatran or ferrothorn, which clefable struggles with. twave clefable also somewhat alleviates medichams issue with speed.

I don't want over the half the nominations to be winning nominations, so until we can get more than 5 nominations, I'm going to change the winners bracket to only 2 Pokemon. Otherwise I'm giving majority winners, which just seems counter productive when trying to find the best partners.

Kyurem-Black @ Life Orb
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 20 Atk / 252 SpA / 236 Spe
Mild Nature
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Fusion Bolt
- Roost

Kyurem-B is able to outspeed and threaten the common switch-ins to Zard-X such as Heatran, Slowbro, Fat Chomp and Quagsire with its Ice / Ground / Electric coverage. It also naturally lures in Scizor, Ferothorn and Jirachi, all of which are set-up bait for Zard-X. It can even pressure the opponent's Lati@s to click Draco Meteor, which also opens up set-up opportunities.

Breloom @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Spore
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Swords Dance

CharX is pretty unstoppable once it gets a dragon dance up, but there are a few things that can prevent a sweep, namely bulky grounds, bulky waters, Heatran, and sand rush Excadrill, which still outspeeds after a DD. Breloom destroys Hippowdon, Quagsire, Slowbro and friends with bullet seed, breaks Excadrill in half and threatens Heatran with mach punch, can send other annoying mons such as unaware Clefable and M-Altaria to sleep with spore, and has swords dance to provide additional offensive pressure and become a wincon in his own right.

Excadrill (M) @ Leftovers

EVs: 248 HP / 224 SpD / 36 Spe

- Stealth Rock / Toxic
- Rapid Spin

There is one important thing Charizard likes, Hazard Removal, and as a bonus this is capable of clearing some threats also as well as luring things that come in on them such as Keldeo and Quagire and hitting them with Toxic. It also gets bye defensive Mega-Altairia quite well.

Serperior @ Expert Belt
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power Ground
- Glare

serperior makes for a great partner to zardx, being able to beat most of its checks, such as rhyperior, quagsire, and diancie, the exception being mega altaria. this particular set runs hp ground as to lure in and significantly weaken, if not knock out, heatran, with charizard being able to pressure the mons you forfeit the ability to hit, scizor and skarmory. expert belt is more of a personal preference than anything tbh, letting you guarantee the kill on washtom and slowbro and boosting hp grounds damage on heatran, without the shitty recoil of life orb. i just dont think its nesecary. glare is the preferred move in the last slot as to punish altaria and talonflame, easing a zardx set-up in the future.

Something that isn't a Water type, Grass type or Excadrill? Reserving Jirachi.

Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 132 Atk / 160 SpA / 216 Spe
Mild Nature
- Iron Head
- Icy Wind
- Grass Knot
- Healing Wish

Mixed Lure Jirach is a pretty fantastic partner for DD Chary-X as it can check Mega Altaria Mega Diancie, two Pokemon that Chary-X usually has problems muscling past. Jirachi also lures in bulky Water and Ground types, such as Hippowdon and Slowbro & can easily KO them with a super effective Grass Knot. Jirachi also provides excellent utility in Healing Wish, as it can give Chary-X another chance at sweeping, restoring its HP to full and removing status conditions.

Manaphy @ Lum Berry / Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 96 HP / 252 SpA / 160 Spe
Modest Nature
- Tail Glow
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Energy Ball

Bulky Ground-types? What Ground-types? I know Manaphy is a pretty standard partner, but it's for good reason. Manaphy completely obliterates the majority of Charizard's checks, such as Hippowdon, Slowbro or Mega Slowbro, Heatran, Tyranitar,, Mega Diancie, and Quagsire, thanks to its coverage options and Tail Glow. In return, Manaphy does not need to run Hidden Power Fire, thanks to Charizard setting up all over Ferrothorn due to its typing. Charizard X also heavily damages, if not outright KOs, Mega Venusaur. Both Pokemon weaken substancial threats that the other one needs gone to sweep.

garchomp.gif

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 92 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Fire Blast

Garchomp is a good way to stop the physical attacking ground and rock types that Mega Charizard X does not do well against. Examples of mons that Garchomp can beat are Terrakion, Choice Scarf Landorus-T, Diggersby, Tyranitar, Excadrill, and Mega Pinsir. Garchomp also works for wearing down other physical attackers that can beat Mega Charizard X because of its ability Rough Skin and Rocky Helmet. Mons that attack Garchomp with a contact move lose 30% of their health every time clearing the way for Mega Charizard X to sweep and clean-up the mons weakened by Garchomp. Garchomp also provides Stealth Rock for the core. It is one of the best and most reliable rock setter in OverUsed at the moment.

This core functions both ways; Mega Charizard X can be used to support Garchomp. Mega Charizard X can be used to switch into electric types with Hidden Power Ice that can easily pick off Garchomp if it is weakened: Thundurus, Mega Manectric, and Choice Specs Raikou. Mega Charizard X is also able to take advantage of Mega Sableye, one of the few mons that Garchomp can not set up Stealth Rock on. Mega Charizard X often gets a free Dragon Dance when it comes in on it, and if the opponent's Mega Charizard X switch-in is weakened, it can clean up the rest of the team. In a similar way, Mega Charizard X can set up on Clefable, which also beats Garchomp.

Timid Nature
- Encore
- Tickle
- Counter
- Mirror Coat

There aren't many ways to reliably stop Zard X in this meta that don't involve Mega Altaria. However, Quagsire is a hard stop, being able to ignore its boosts with Unaware, take less than 50% from anything it uses (other than a weird HP Grass lure set for people who really hate stall) and can proceed to recover stall it. However, speedy Wobbuffet not only traps it, but it also brings it down to the range where Pursuit scores a KO. It also helps deal with Roar Suicune, and it helps Charizard avoid impaling itself on Ferrothorn, while also allowing you to bring Skarmory down to its Sturdy so that it dies when it switches in on rocks. The set is also capable of PP stalling walls if the Pursuit trapper is not available, being able to lock them into a recovery move so that they Struggle to death after 16 turns. The EVs given outpace uninvested Skarmory, allowing you to Encore it into Roost/Defog and proceed to Tickle it while having the ability to keep it locked with Encore. In addition, the Encore support provides Charizard with free setup opportunities, allowing for Charizard to be even more threatening.

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature

Dragonite tends to attract common checks to Charizard-X such as Azumarill and Landorus-T, and does a decent amount of damage to them. This makes it a great partner for Charizard-X, as it makes it easier for Charizard-X to break through the opposing team. This is reminiscent of Drag-Spam in BW.

Bold Nature
- Recover
- Baton Pass

- Nasty Plot

NastyPass Celebi is an absolutely fantastic partner for Specs Keldeo. Celebi can easily eliminate bulky Water types such as Alomomola and Slowbro with a +2 Giga Drain. But most notably, Celebi can pass a Nasty Plot to Keldeo, allowing it to easily spam either Scald or Secret Sword in order to clean up late in the game.

Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Pursuit

Bisharp is a pretty obvious teammate for Keldeo because it provides great support by removing Keldeo's switch-ins with Pursuit. Bisharp can remove or dent the common psychic switch-ins like Latios, Latias, Celebi, Starmie, and Slowbro. With these mons gone, Keldeo is free to fire off powerful Choice Specs attacks. Bisharp is also able to remove certain fairy type mons for Keldeo like Clefable, Sylveon, and a weakened Mega Altaria. In return, Keldeo can take on some of Bisharp's checks: Hippowdon, tankchomp, Heatran, Landorus-T, and Gliscor.

Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Shadow Sneak
- Will-O-Wisp
- Destiny Bond

Mega Banette is one the most underrated mons in the OU tier, with priority Will-O-Wisp and Destiny Bond this isn't a Pokemon to be messing around against. Clefable is one of the most common switch ins for this monster to absorb status conditions, with Gunk Shot this does large damage to almost OHKOing it. Now with Keldeo's threat gone Keldeo can return the favor by defeating Heatran, and Dark types that threaten Mega Banette.

Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 68 Atk / 188 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Thunderbolt

- Sludge Wave
- Hidden Power Flying

Thundurus can be used as an offensive partner to Keldeo as it threatens the Water and Grass type Pokemon (such as Slowbro, Mega Venusaur and Tornadus-T) that switches in on Keldeo with its dual STABs. Knock Off allows Thundurus to OHKO Lati@s after Stealth Rock while Sludge Wave lures Mega Altaria and Clefable, which have the potential to beat Keldeo. Although Thundurus is walled by Hippowdon and Tyranitar, Keldeo easily counters them both.

Heatran @ Air Balloon / Power Herb
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Stone Edge / Solarbeam
- Stealth Rock

Heatran provides a much-needed switch-in into the likes of Latias, Latios, and Talonflame and easily defeats Grass-types such as Tangrowth, Mega Venusaur, and Celebi, that Keldeo loathe. On top of this, it can provide Stealth Rock support for Keldeo, which chips away at opposing teams, making it harder to switch into Specs-boosted attacks, and Magma Storm shaves a good amount of HP off as well. Solarbeam Heatran can be used to lure in bulky Water-types such as Azumarill, Rotom-W, and Gastrodon, although you lose out on Stone Edge to hit Talonflame.
