Gen 2 Mono Dragon

728px-Lance_Adventures.png

Hello guys, I would like to present you my mono dragon to use at championship OU on Showdown.
The rules are the same of the OU, and most of Pokemon I took from Smogon app advices.
Spr_2c_130.png

Gyarados @ Miracle Berry
Ability: No Ability
IVs: 14 HP / 24 Atk
- Thunder
- Double-Edge
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power [Ground]
I choice Gyarados to lead to be equal Lance of Elite Four. To his move I put Double-Edge to use his great atack and also Hidden Power Ground to deal against Eleitric type, I don't understand why he can't learn Earthquack on gen2. Hydro Pump is a good Stab move and Thunder to use against other water pokémons.(I was thinking also in Fire Blast, but I already put this move in other pokémons).
Spr_2c_230.png

Kingdra @ Leftovers
Ability: No Ability
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Since gen2 Rest + Sleep Talk is broken, I need to use it. So I choice moves with more PP then Hydro Pump and Blizard because I fell Kingdra can go to a stall competition with other stall players.
Also it could have Dragon Breath, but I guess Ice Beam cover better against the dragon type.
Spr_2c_149.png

Dragonite @ Leftovers
Ability: No Ability
- Wing Attack
- Double-Edge
- Thunder Wave
- Fire Blast
Most of times I goes for a Thunder Wave to outspeed my foe and then I spawn Double Edge, Wing Attack is also a good move because is stab and can be used against plants, fighters and bugs. Fire Blast is a cover most against the Metal pokémons.
Edit: I just realize Hidden Power is better then Wing Attack and I will change it.
Spr_2c_006.png

Charizard @ Leftovers
Ability: No Ability
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Belly Drum
That pokémon I also tooked from Smogon app, when I realize it learns Belly Drum and it's an excelent move. It's combine with Rock Slide or Earthquacke can deal with a lot of pokémons, I also put Fire Blast to be some stab move.
I fell like Charizard also could have wing attack, but as a weak move I just put it in Dragonite.
Spr_2c_142.png

Aerodactyl @ Leftovers
Ability: No Ability
IVs: 14 HP / 24 Atk / 26 Def
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake
- Ancient Power
- Hidden Power [Flying]
On Aerodactyl I remove the Wing Attack and put Hidden Power Flying because it's deal more damage. Also it have Ancient Power who can give him the ominus boost.
Earthquacke is a strong move and Fire Blast to cover some metal pokémons.
Spr_2c_148.png

Dragonair @ Leftovers
Ability: No Ability
- Surf
- Thunder
- Fire Blast
- Thunder Wave
Since it's a mono dragon, I need to put a NFE to have 6 pokémons on Gen 2; So I decided to Dragonair because Lance also use it.
To his move set I decided to put some elemental moves and Thunder Wave to have some speed control on the team, the only other pokémon who can have thunder wave in this team is Dragonite and have it.

It is fun to build teams with unique restrictions or inspired by in-game characters. However, this team is frankly unviable in the GSC OU metagame and impossible to rate.

There are many reasons why this team doesn't work, but lets just look at the three biggest: Snorlax, Zapdos, and Raikou. These are the three most common offensive threats in GSC and every single member of your team loses to these. This team simply has no way to KO Snorlax. Double Edge/Earthquake/Rest/Sleep Talk Snorlax will slowly wear the team down without being knocked out. Similarly any Snorlax with Curse + Rest will set up for free and sweep you. You also have no answers Thunder/Hidden Power Ice/Rest/Sleep Talk Zapdos or Raikou sets. It is possible to surmount one of these threats with skillful play or luck, but your opponent will have 5 more Pokemon. No matter how skilled you are, this team cannot consistently win against competent opponents bringing traditional GSC teams.

It is perfectly fine to keep using this team and I encourage you to play the game however you find fun, but you will not find competitive success with this build.

If you would like to experience GSC with a more viable dragon inspired team, I would recommend this: https://pokepast.es/59f6e55c6fd0554b

While this team changes 4 of your members, it preserves your idea of using Thunder Wave Dragonite + Belly Drum Charizard. With paralysis spreading from Body Slam Snorlax, Thunder Wave Dragonite, and Thunder Raikou this team aims to cripple the opponent's team, allowing Charizard to sweep. Explosions from Cloyster and Steelix also help to remove any checks to Charizard.

I hope you have fun playing GSC in the future. Please feel free to respond back with any questions.

This leaves Lance's team in shambles

You are totally right, I just used this dragon team at the final of the championship I was and I lost to a curse Snorlax, anyone had any move able to stop him!

1. I think that to be able to check Snorlax, all teams should have a normal resist with reasonable bulk and access to Roar. For offense, these include Tyranitar, Golem, Steelix and Rhydon. On defense, Skarmory is almost mandatory as it can indefinetly wall most Snorlax variants.
2. 99.9% of teams are massively improved by running Snorlax. The same goes for your team.
3. Most offensive teams are also massively improved by running Zapdos. It provides a sleep absorber, checks a lot of pokemon and alongside Lax + Normal resist ensures you don't have to worry much about defense.

Very fun team, but it isn’t viable i believe lol. Maybe go triple dragon and add some staples like snorlax or something

If you tried this in ladder, you would get absolutely pounded. Still a really cool team! I always love to build teams that aren't competitive but are still super cool. I bet if you brought this to the actual GSC Elite Four in game, you would probably do well.
