This thread is your one-stop shop for anything Other Metagame related in Little Cup! Specifically, it will be home to basic rules and clauses, viability information, and sample teams for the 5 biggest LC OMs:
Each tier will function independently, having their own councils, Tier Leaders, and suspect tests. It is important to note that the LC versions of pre-established metagames may not follow every clause or new rule introduced in their OU versions. As a small note to tier leaders and councils: Every resource available throughout this post is maintained via Pastebin so that y'all can easily send me updated lists and the like. Please feel free to update the information present at any time.

ADV [Gen 3] LC
239.gif

ADV LC (or Gen 3 LC) is an overlooked metagame that never had the opportunity to become a official Smogon meta. ADV LC is a fun and diverse metagame, and it's also quite different from anything we currently have. The first key difference is the smaller variety of items. There are three types of items that are commonly used in ADV LC: Sitrus Berry (in ADV, it restores 30 HP), Type-boosting items such as Soft Sand or Silk Scarf, and of course, Choice Band. Eviolite, Choice Specs, Choice Scarf, Status Orbs and Life Orb do not exist in ADV LC. In addition, there are quite a few moves that are missing, such as Stealth Rock. Additionally, your first slot Pokemon is always your lead in an ADV match due to the lack of Team Preview. Another big difference is the special/physical split; all moves of a given type are either physical or special. You can challenge people to ADV LC on the main server by using the [Gen 3 OU] challenge option and utilizing the presented rules level 5!

Almost Any Ability LC
077.gif

AAA is a standard version of LC with a simple twist - your Pokemon can swap out their normal abilities for almost any ability of your choosing (see the banlist below for abilities that are not allowed.) This opens the door to a very unique metagame, and a host of fascinating sets.

LC Doubles
307.gif

LC Doubles incorporates our beloved LC meta into the already well established Smogon Doubles ruleset. In this meta, players send out two Pokémon at a time, adding an entirely new layer of strategy and plays to each turn! Because four Pokémon take the field at a time, moves like Protect and Rage Powder finally become viable, not to mention the increased value of spread moves such as Blizzard. All in all, LC Doubles is a fantastic OM for those looking to delve deeper into strategy.

LC STABmons
446.gif

STABmons is the metagame where Pokemon have access to moves that match their type even if they can't normally learn them! Take Foongus, the Pokemon in the logo above. Besides all its usual moves, now it can learn all Grass and Poison moves as well! This comes with a catch for Normal-type Pokémon, however, as they are only allowed to learn one additional move not already present in their arsenal. This new moveset variety turns LC STABmons into an incredibly diverse and exciting new metagame!

Hey, the ADV LC council has decided to ban the combination of Agility + Baton Pass. This affects Ledyba, Spinarak, and Spearow.
As the only way to consistently pass speed to a teammate, this specific combination turns otherwise manageable hard hitters into ridiculously effective sweepers. In a metagame without Eviolite, the number of checks to, for example, a boosted Clamperl with a set of Surf/Ice Beam/HP Grass, is limited to a few otherwise unviable or at least not very good sets, such as specially defensive variants of Lotad and Surskit. Ledyba has a great deal of special bulk, and Spinarak lacks double weaknesses to take advantage of, so it isn't difficult for them to find the opportunity to set up. Key recipients include Clamperl, Cubone, and Drowzee, but there are other effective choices, although they are generally somewhat less broken. This decent variety makes it difficult to predict what will be coming in, especially with the lack of team preview, so trying to OHKO a recipient as soon as it enters the field is often not feasible.

We have chosen not to ban the broken recipients, as they have notable but less disruptive niches as well (Cubone is B+, slam clam is C+, and Drowzee is C-), or the passers, because they have their unique, albeit not all that viable niches. Agility and Baton Pass have significant uses outside of being used in conjunction, so neither will be banned individually.

Omanyte has been banned from ADV LC.
The standard set was already on the verge of being broken due to its checks being essentially limited to bulky Water-types with HP Grass, Surskit, and Lotad, but Subpetaya pushed it even further over the edge by reducing its reliable checks to just Surskit and Lotad, neither of which are very good Pokemon in a metagame without Omanyte, albeit at the cost of coverage against bulky Grass-types. It didn't help that Omanyte's solid statistical bulk and decent resistances gave it a good number of opportunities to get rain up, if a teammate didn't set it up first. A team essentially could not succeed without one of two otherwise mediocre Pokemon or multiple revenge-killers, which was deemed to be far too overcentralizing.
...And with that, I think it's safe to say that ADV LC is actually playable! We'll be setting up viability rankings and sample teams to make the metagame easier to get into. I encourage you to try the metagame out, as it's quite a unique experience.

The DLC Council is officially suspecting Sleep Clause
bellsprout.gif

One of the tiers biggest problems at the moment is Sleep Clause, (or the lack thereof) as there are very few counters to sleep, and is the only reason why Yanma is banned from the tier. The meta has very few viable grass types, and it is much harder to run safety goggles on many mons, as most would rather want to run Eviolite for prolonged bulk, or berry juice for instant recovery. The two main sleep abusers, Foongus and Bellsprout, while being easily counterable, can both make battling with their respective sleep moves uncompetitive and very annoying to play against. The former, foongus, can make battling against trick room a pain as it underspeeds wallbreakers such as Meditite or Murkrow under it, and can put both to sleep. The latter, Bellsprout, outspeeds 20 speed mons under sun and can put every major sun check in the tier to sleep, these including mons such as gligar, snover, and murkrow. Although the majority of protect and sub users increases much from regular LC, sleep is a major problem as some games are dictated by how the player uses and abuses sleep.

Voting will be in a few days, and until then, please battle as much as possible as well as post your reasoning on what you vote for below.

To clarify, the LC Doubles council will vote in a few days, but please express your opinion on the test here. High quality posts will allow users to vote.

If it's decided that there should be a sleep clause, what's the plan for enforcing it? If someone forgets and accidentally puts 2 mons to sleep are they disqualified for that? Are people forced to play on a non-main server where there would be a sleep clause?

I mean as it stands the meta itself already functions on a "gentleman's agreement" of sorts since we can't really enforce people being at level 5. There's a similar issue with almost every other meta, since you can theoretically forget about agility and baton pass in ADV for example. It does rely on people obeying the rules, but then again DLC in general relies on that.

Sine it is hard for us to specifically enforce sleep clause, anyone who forgets about it in a match will most likely be disqualified from their matches until we get a ladder.

There's a pretty big difference between a teambuilding error and one that happens in the middle of the game. It's easier to catch a teambuilding error and you aren't punished for momentarily forgetting something in the heat of a game. Someone could get dq'd just for missclicking in a game. Additionally, you don't always know if you're breaking the clause. What if you put a Staryu to sleep and it switches out? You don't know if it's Natural Cure or Analytic and you don't know if you're allowed to put something to sleep.

While it's certainly not ideal, there's not a whole lot of options. Sleeping multiple things is an issue at the moment, and we can't just ban the most broken sleep users since that's several mons with an extra layer of collateral (it essentially makes sun a significantly less viable playstyle). If you do have a better idea for implementation I would be more than thrilled to hear it.

Even the general metagame clauses aren't perfect. The current implementation of the Endless Battle Clause, which is basically the only in battle clause other than sleep, has triggered on non-endless battles.

Regardless this is the current suspect, so please post opinions on it.

It's not the ideal solution either, but several of the more well-known fringe servers are owned, or at least partially staffed by LCers, who I'm sure would be capable of implementing LC OMs without too much trouble (including LC Doubles with Sleep Clause); we could just play tour and other important games on those.

Having actual sleep clause is way way better than disqualifying. If I want to use a sleep move on a slot that is already asleep but could wake up this turn then I should be able to do that without having to fear losing if they switch that pokemon out.

That's absolutely true, and why if at all possible we want a place where we can do doubles with sleep clause on. However there isn't any sort of battle format like that on the main server atm, so we either need to have another server host a metagame like that or convince one of the PS people to add a doubles with sleep clause format.

I guess to add to how necessary a built-in sleep clause would be is that any mon that can put something to sleep could accidentally break the rule. If a mon has been asleep for 3 turns and you're foongus, clicking spore is very logical as the pokemon is guaranteed to wake up if they stay in, but if they switch out then whoops, you've broken sleep clause.

Preliminary ADV LC Viability Rankings

Welcome to the ADV LC viability ranking project. In this project, we will "tier" every Pokemon based on usefulness. An initial tier list has already been made; if you think something should be moved up or down, post in this thread with your reasoning on why, and the change may be enacted. Feel free to ask if there is any placement which you don't understand.

That's absolutely true, and why if at all possible we want a place where we can do doubles with sleep clause on. However there isn't any sort of battle format like that on the main server atm, so we either need to have another server host a metagame like that or convince one of the PS people to add a doubles with sleep clause format.
I'm pretty sure Snaquaza would be happy to host this on his server, aqua.psim.us if you asked him. I highly doubt you'd be able to get it on main though, unfortunately.

I have a lot of Doubles OMs on my server, Aqua, already. It'd be good if someone could test their banlists and such though.

Adv LC is cool so I'll add it and any other thing I don't have yet. c:

Edit: Grats on 0.4k Josh.
