[SET]
Magic Guard (Roaring Moon) @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Dragon Claw / Earthquake
- U-turn
- Roost
[SET COMMENTS]
Magic Guard Roaring Moon leverages its excellent offensive profile with Magic Guard to outlast its common checks and still put tremendous pressure on the opposing team with Knock Off, pivoting, and an excellent Speed tier. Some normally reliable Roaring Moon answers like Great Tusk, Iron Hands, and Fluffy Corviknight are prone to being worn down through the combination of U-turn, losing their Leftovers or Heavy-Duty Boots, and switching in, often through entry hazards, just for Roaring Moon to pivot out. Roost, combined with Roaring Moon's decent bulk, allows it to have a credible defensive profile as well and switch into weak or resisted attacks from the likes of Iron Moth and Hisuian Electrode. Earthquake is an option to hit Iron Moth, Kingambit, Primarina, and Iron Hands harder than Dragon Claw. Roaring Moon loves being included on hazard stacking balance teams, as it can easily remove Heavy-Duty Boots and pivot around to wear down its checks. As a result, teammates like Scream Tail, Ting-Lu, and Great Tusk make excellent partners. Roaring Moon is an excellent choice to wear down common defensive staples like Fluffy Corviknight and Great Tusk, making it a great teammate for Pokemon like Zamazenta and Iron Boulder to burst through opposing teams. Roaring Moon struggles with faster offensive threats like Zamazenta and lacks immediate power against bulkier threats like physically defensive Manaphy and Primarina; as a result, it needs reliable partners like Pecharunt to tank hits and either reliable hazard stackers or powerful wallbreakers like Latios to push through those structures.
