Clangorous Soul allows Kommo-o to become an explosive wallbreaker, using the extra boost afforded by Throat Spray in conjunction with its stellar coverage to deal powerful blows to the entire tier. Clanging Scales is chosen as the STAB of choice thanks to its high power and having few drawbacks, while also being able to trigger Throat Spray in situations where the health loss from Clangorous Soul is not ideal. Boomburst deals massive damage, managing to 2HKO even resists such as Metagross and Iron Crown after a boost and Terastilization. Flamethrower allows for Kommo-o to have an option against Pokemon that resist Boomburst, like Tinkaton and Excadrill, hitting them for super effective damage. Drain Punch fills a similar role, while also allowing Kommo-o some recovery and being a better option into Empoleon and Tyranitar. Drain Punch also gives Kommo-o an option to deal meaningful damage to opposing Soundproof Kommo-o. However, it should be noted that due to Drain Punch sets running a Naive nature, this comes at the cost of some bulk. Tera Normal allows Kommo-o to take Boomburst's already high damage output and boost it to obscene levels, having a chance to OHKO even strong special walls like Hippowdon and Toxapex.
Hazard setters like Sandy Shocks and Tinkaton make exceptional teammates, as the chip damage that entry hazards provide negates any chance that most Pokemon have of surviving a +2 Tera Normal Boomburst. Other sweepers, like Greninja, Scizor, and Ogerpon-C, also appreciate Kommo-o's ability to blow holes in the opposing team, as well as its ability to wear down shared checks like Metagross, Empoleon, and opposing Kommo-o. Soundproof in conjunction with Tera Normal also allows Kommo-o to completely wall Skeledirge, making it a great teammate for physical wallbreakers that may otherwise struggle with it, such as Ogerpon, Okidogi, and Mamoswine. Revenge killers like Lokix, Booster Energy Iron Crown, and Choice Scarf Mienshao also make great partners thanks to their ability to come in after Kommo-o has caused significant damage and pick off weakened opponents.
