I strongly recommend GaMetal some of the single handedly best metal remix's of great video games songs I've heard in a while.

I think I suggested listening to Slant a while ago and I absolutely still hype the shit out of them, still my favorite active / "new" punk band for sure; I actually got the chance to see them live in November, and the 20 or so minutes of their set will go down as some of the greatest 20 minutes of my life, absolutely worth how much trouble I got into from my friend getting sick in the car on the drive over. Shame that all of the live recordings of the band are later in the tour when it seems like Yeji had blown out her voice...because she was on POINT on the Boston show

pov me shouting "ENEMY!!!!!"

There were several other underground and local-ish bands that opened before them, they were decent but I'd say the most interesting of them was definitely No Model.

Obviously check out Turnstile, Soul Glo, and Otoboke Beaver (my least favorite of the three but I saw them live and it was damn fun) if you haven't already. A lot of people don't like them for some stupid reasons, but I would also highly recommend the new Lambrini Girls album, as well The Chats and Destroy Boys.

For some deep cut Asian bands, while I have brought them up before, I would absolutely recommend Sial (they're from Singapore).

Soumbalgwang is another Korean Punk band (albeit they lean more into Noise Rock, Emo, and Post-Hardcore territory) and their new album is excellent. Sailor Honeymoon is a very new band (who apparently Meaningful Stone was briefly a part of) that I can best describe as "Death From Above for the Lesbians"; they put out an EP last year and while they have a lot of room to grow on the songwriting front, they're pretty awesome sonically and...I just get this weird feeling they're gonna blow up like crazy at some point (but perhaps Lambrini Girls have stolen their thunder? idk)

Finally, I don't know if it really counts as punk, but since their work clearly takes influence from groups like Brave Little Abacus, I'd also recommend the new album by Smiling Broadly, it's up there with Hotel La Rut as my favorite album of 2024 (fun fact, this is the music project of Youtuber hazel, which means that this hands down the best Youtuber album ever)

EDIT: Almost completely forgot about PUP even though I post them in this thread earlier this year LOL.

Anyways, the main reason I wanted to post in this thread; new Japanese Breakfast album came out and it's very good!!

I admit I am a weirdo who thinks Jubilee is their weakest album (Psychopomp is my 2nd fav album ever and Soft Sounds is Top 10), but I think I prefer Melancholy Brunettes to Jubilee even if it's not even close to their other two albums, not that I was really expecting them to reach those heights. Yes, it's folky, which is not my cup of tea, but there's enough hints of their old dream/indie pop stuff that it feels like a comfortable evolution of their early work. Gonna be seeing them for the first time in May, pretty excited :v4:

Favorite track is ABSOLUTELY Honey Water. Probably my favorite track of the band's since Soft Sounds (maybe even my favorite since Psychopomp???).

Bro I just fucking can't with these Thundercat vocals. This melodic humming he does makes me feel some kind of way. Him, Kendrick Lamar and Tame Impala are probably the best musicians active right now, no cap

Here's This Week's Favorite's! From My Playlist! (I may be taking a break for the next upcoming months so I may not be able to keep up weekly or at all.) So To Help with that I've included 5, instead of 3 this time!

The new Wu Tang album is fucking great. It's been so long since the team has really made something that made me feel like it was the same quality as when I was growing up. This album has some absolute HITTERS on it

These are my favorites, but honestly a lot of the stuff on this album is great.
