Project Core Analysis Workshop (Discussing Partners for Mega Sharpedo + Tank Chomp)

Status
Not open for further replies.
Manectric @ Manectite
Ability: Lightningrod
evs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spe
Timid nature
- thunderbolt
- flamethrower
- volt switch
- hidden power ice

Mega mane 2HKOes both Skarm and chomp with Tbolt / hp ice respectively, and chomp dies after rocks and a spike in play. Mane can switch into skarm with impunity and doesn't rly fear much from chomp if it predicts correctly. All in all mega mane gives this core some trouble.

Although this is somewhat unrelated, a possible change would be hippo > chomp. It's still a bulky ground type rox setter, but it doesn't lose to electrics and it also has a lot more longevity thanks to slack off.

altaria-mega.gif

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Cloud Nine ---> Pixilate
EVs: 248 HP / 168 SpA / 92 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake
- Roost

This special attacker variant can come on anything from Garchomp and Skarmory as neither of them can 2HKO it (switching into Skarmory's Whirlind sucks though). In addition of having reliable recovery with Roost to better deal with both of them, it's immune to Garchomp's Dragon Tail and can OHKO it with a Pixilated (not pixelated hehehe) Hyper Voice after little prior damage without sustaining any damage whatsoever from Rocky Helmet and Rough Skin. In Skarmory's case, M-Altaria's Fire Blast easily 2HKOes it while the only option Skarmory has to deal with it is to phaze it out via Whirlwind since Iron Head doesn't even 2HKO.
0 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Altaria: 126-148 (35.6 - 41.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
168+ SpA Pixilate Mega Altaria Hyper Voice vs. 252 HP / 76 SpD Garchomp: 366-432 (87.1 - 102.8%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO (56.25% chance to OHKO after SR damage)

0 Atk Skarmory Iron Head vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Altaria: 134-158 (37.9 - 44.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and 3 layers of Spikes (Roost exists, so it'll never be a 2HKO)
168+ SpA Mega Altaria Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Skarmory: 198-234 (59.4 - 70.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Edit: I changed my calcs with Garchomp's new spread.

Reserving Dragon Pulse Zard-Y Done because I'm a speed demon
charizard-mega-y.gif

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast / Roost
- Dragon Pulse

This is pretty Self explanatory, but I'll explain it anyways. Skarmory is roasted by sun boosted fire Blast while Garchomp is 2HKOd by timid dragon pulse, and 2HKO'd by fire blast+dragon pulse if he switches in. The most damage that either member of the core can do to zard is Garchomp doing ~35% with dragon tail. The members of this core can phase out Charizard, but he can do heavy damage to them and can easily win provided rocks are not up.

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Skarmory in Sun: 566-668 (169.9 - 200.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO (gawn)
0 Atk Skarmory Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Charizard Y: 44-52 (14.8 - 17.5%) -- possible 6HKO (yum)
252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Dragon Pulse vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp: 248-292 (59 - 69.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock (rawr)
252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp in Sun: 180-212 (42.8 - 50.4%) -- 43.8% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock (stronk)
0 Atk Garchomp Dragon Tail vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Charizard Y: 100-118 (33.6 - 39.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO (was that damage)

Reserving Mega Gardy

My bad, thought we were doing partners. I'll come back to this when that part starts.

Just saying but putting 76 SpDef on chomp (taken out of speed) lets it beat special attackers more reliably, including Thundurus, mega mane, Zard y, etc cuz its not OHKO/2hkoed by the proper coverage moves. bludz updating the spread to this one might be a fun idea :D

Yeah I knew there was some better spread but it was like 430AM when I posted it so I didn't use it. I'll edit it in since I don't think it invalidates any of the threats already posted and is most likely a superior spread for this core to better check electric types

Reserving rotom wash

rotom-wash.gif

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

Rotom-w is a best thread of Garchomp and Skarmory, the sets of Skar + Chomp can not touch a rotom, while rotom can burn both with will-o-wispand finish them with Hydro + Volt.

Damage vs Skarm:

0 SpA Rotom-W Volt Switch vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Skarmory: 144-170 (43.1 - 50.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Rotom-W Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Skarmory: 111-132 (33.2 - 39.5%) -- 18.7% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Damage vs Chomp:

0 SpA Rotom-W Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 76 SpD Garchomp: 130-154 (30.9 - 36.6%) -- 65.1% chance to 3HKO

To Garchomp , you just need to burn and then give revenge kill with another Pokémon.

SkarmChomp damage vs rotom:

0 Atk Garchomp Dragon Tail vs. 248 HP / 216+ Def Rotom-W: 58-69 (19.1 - 22.7%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Skarmory Iron Head vs. 248 HP / 216+ Def Rotom-W: 12-15 (3.9 - 4.9%) -- possibly the worst move ever

Although it is very difficult to kill this core with rotom , they can not touch us with no movement , seeing forced change.

I think for this core Keldeo is such a threat cuz either of both can safely switch in.

Keldeo-Resolute @ Choice Specs/Choice Scarf/Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind
- Scald
- Hydro Pump

This monster ouspeed both mons on the core and is capable of HKO obvious Sturdy on skarmory, here some calc of the 3 variant of keldeo.

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Icy Wind vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Garchomp: 408-484 (97.1 - 115.2%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Keldeo Icy Wind vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Garchomp: 272-324 (64.7 - 77.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Keldeo Icy Wind vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Garchomp: 354-421 (84.2 - 100.2%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

252 SpA Life Orb Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 248+ SpD Skarmory: 211-250 (63.1 - 74.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 248+ SpD Skarmory: 162-192 (48.5 - 57.4%) -- 50% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 248+ SpD Skarmory: 243-286 (72.7 - 85.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Conclusion: All variant of Keldeo has the ability to 2hko both mons of the core

Reserving Mega Sableye

sableye-mega.gif

Sableye @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 100 Def / 160 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 SpA
- Knock Off
- Will-O-Wisp
- Foul Play
- Recover

Easily the most threatening mon for this core. This little guy right here can easily disrupt this core main goal, stacking hazards. Thanks to its ability magic bounce, every hazard they throw at it will just bounce back gaining control over the hazard game causing this core to be played way differently, in fact this 2 sets are helpless against it:

0 Atk Skarmory Iron Head vs. 248 HP / 100+ Def Mega Sableye: 51-60 (16.8 - 19.8%) -- guaranteed 6HKO

0 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 100+ Def Mega Sableye: 93-111 (30.6 - 36.6%) -- 60.6% chance to 3HKO

Skarmory cant force it out with whirlwind thanks to its ability and garchomp risk a burn if it goes for dragon tail. Having knock off to get rid of their items is pretty bothersome for the core in question as well.

Garchomp @ Life Orb
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Stealth Rock / Stone Edge

Well, isn't just the most ironic thing you've ever seen? Anyways, LO Mixed Garchomp is a rather big threat to this core, as Draco Meteor has a 94% chance to OHKO Garchomp while Fire Blast easily gets the 2HKO on Skarmory.

252 SpA Life Orb Garchomp Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 76 SpD Garchomp: 416-494 (99 - 117.6%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

252 SpA Life Orb Garchomp Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Skarmory: 205-242 (61.5 - 72.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Hydreigon @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Superpower
- Flash Cannon

.balancebreaker here destroys the SkarmChomp core, OHKOing Chomp and easily 2HKOing Skarm. Skarm, if real, could attempt roost stall but thats only if Hydreigon comes in on Skarm, and we all know Dark Pulse will flinch anyways..

252+ SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Skarmory: 165-195 (49.5 - 58.5%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO

252+ SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 76 SpD Garchomp: 616-728 (146.6 - 173.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Sigh.

Doing Slowbro instead haha.
slowbro-mega.gif

Slowbro @ Slowbronite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 SpA
Modest Nature
- Scald
- Fire Blast
- Ice Beam
- Slack Off

Offensive Mega Slowbro is a very big threat to this core because of its good bulk and coverage options, allowing it to take on both Garchomp and Skarmory with ease. A combination of Ice Beam and Fire Blast is standard, and deals with Garchomp and Skarmory, respectively, OHKOing the former and 2HKOing the latter. Because of Mega Slowbro's natural bulk, Garchomp and Skarmory are unable to do much back to Mega Slowbro except for phaze it out with Dragon Tail or Whirlwind.

216+ SpA Mega Slowbro Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Skarmory: 232-274 (69.6 - 82.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
216+ SpA Mega Slowbro Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 76 SpD Garchomp: 444-524 (105.7 - 124.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Talonflame @ Leftovers
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Will-O-Wisp
- Taunt

the standard stall breaking talonflame makes these pokemon something of a liability, getting in on both pokemon and firing free will-o-wisps at the enemy team. it can exchange a wisp for hazards, and once the hazards are spun later these mons are crippled and on a timer, especially since both lack leftovers recovery. later in the game they can be taunted to prevent hazards and burned dragon tail isn't doing much to talonflame

Minor nitpick, but you might wanna change your EV spread to 248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 Spe so that you'll obtain a SR number and outspeed opposing stallbreaker T-Flame. Apart from that, it's a pretty solid threat to the core. Ü

This very good set, but for this function to recommend MGarchomp:

252 SpA Mega Garchomp Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 70 SpD Garchomp: 426-504 (101.4 - 120%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Mega Garchomp Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Skarmory: 204-242 (61 - 72.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Edit:As mega, you will not receive recoil of life orb (I say this if your opponent tries to make stall)

Well I mean; both work -- I think you might have been better off making this another threat to the core - listing the full set - and as a side note saying it's similar to Dr Ciel 's.
By the way; the EVs are a tad wrong - the garchomp has 76 SpD EVs rather than 70 - and 70 is not an EV number regardless - while the skarmory has 248 HP EVs rather than 252.

Yup. Time to discuss partners.

Also sorry I haven't updated with the top 3 partners from last week yet. I should have that done today.

altaria-mega.gif

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure / Cloud Nine
EVs: 248 HP / 104 Def / 156 SpD
Bold Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Roost
- Heal Bell
- Flamethrower / Draco Meteor

Bulky Mega Altaria is a very good partner for this core, not only does it compete the SFD core, but it also handles Electric types like Thundurus, Manectric and Raikou, Water types like Keldeo, Rotom-W and Slowbro, Fire types like Mega Charizard-X, Mega Charizard-Y (which Garchomp does switch into but doesn't really beat) and Glaciate Victini, and Mega Sableye, all of which are big threats to the core. It also provides the team with Heal Bell support, enabling Garchomp to more consistntly switch into Heatran and healing off potential Scald burns for itself. The reason Draco Meteor is slashed in the last slot is becuase otherwise, Altaria cannot reliably handle Charizard-X, a massive threat to the core. However, Flamethrower lets it hit Skarmory and Ferrothorn which are also big nuisances for it, so if you're not particularly weak to XZard, it's a better option.

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 232 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 20 Spe
Modest Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power Fire
- Synthesis

Mega Venusaur can take on Keldeo (non-HP Flying), Manaphy (non-Psychic), Mega Diancie, Mega Altaria, Mega Manectric, SD Mega Scizor, Raikou and Thundurus (non-Psychic / HP Flying). Meanwhile, Garchomp and Skarmory can take care of Bird Spam and Heatran which Mega Venusaur hates. Starmie and Mega Gardevoir takes a significant chunk of HP with STAB Psyshock but Mega Venusaur (if at high health) can survive and OHKO them back although this isn't recommended as it will leave Mega Venusaur crippled. The trio will still fear Kyurem-B, Mega Sableye, Mega Gallade, Mega Medicham and Latios.

Reserving Scarf Landoge

Sorry this took so long, I was kinda busy yesterday.

Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 24 HP / 252 Atk / 232 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge

This set can take out the various Electric, Fire, Ice, Psychic, and Flying Types that threaten this core with its coverage moves. Landorus-T also functions as a great pivot for the team and can give Skarmory (or Chomp) switch ins while maintaining momentum vs the opposing team. Stone Edge can take out the flying types that plague Garchomp, and smacks tthe fire types that earthquake doesn't. Earthquake is a strong STAB move that hits the fire and electric types that threaten the core as well as serving as a strong STAB move. Knock Off and U-Turn both hit the psychic types that threaten this core, U-turn being a nice move to pivot with. This set running 232 jolly to outrun the stuff it usually does. I hope that this is a good partner to the core, even though it doesn't deal with all of the threats to it.
