Project Core Analysis Workshop (Discussing Threats to and Partners for Garchomp + Landorus-T)

Status
Not open for further replies.
Mega Lop as a threat.

Lopunny @ Lopunnite
Ability: Limber
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Return
- Fake Out
- Power-Up Punch

Alrhough it can't switch in, Mega Lopunny can easily outspeed and OHKO both Pokemon after Stealth Rock.

Partner:

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 40 SpD
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled
- Thunder Wave

Clefable avoids the 2HKO from any variants of Mega Lopunny and can defeat it with Moonblast or cripple it with Thunder Wave. Clef also enjoys Ttar checking Talonflame and Pursuiting Heatran which are huge pains for it. Clef also enjoys Serperior denting Hippowdon and Ferrothorn while it checks Weavile and gives Thunder Wave support for Ttar and Serperior.

Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly/adamant Nature
- Iron Head
- U-turn
- Fire Punch/ice punch
- Healing Wish

Jirachi has the ability to outspeed due to scarf and having the way of flinching there way to kill both mons due to the fact that iron head has 60% chance which is very big.
252 Atk Jirachi Iron Head vs. 100 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 204-240 (55.7 - 65.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Jirachi Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Serperior: 114-135 (39.1 - 46.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO it may not be that bad but having the chance to flinch the mon to death is very massive.

Pinsir @ Pinsirite
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly/Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Return
- Close Combat
- Quick Attack

Pinsir has the ability both serp and tyranitar 1v1 such as pinsir is resist vs grass so serperior isn't doing anything, while tyranitar may have the ability to beat it due to the pinsir rock weakness. But tyranitar can't outspeed and dies to close combat
calcs below

252 SpA Life Orb Serperior Leaf Storm vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Pinsir: 52-61 (19.1 - 22.5%) -- possible 5HKO

252 Atk Aerilate Mega Pinsir Return vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Serperior: 518-612 (178 - 210.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Mega Pinsir Close Combat vs. 100 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 552-652 (150.8 - 178.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Partner
Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power Fire
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt

Magnezone has the ability to check both pinsir/jirachi while it may have to play around both there moves I still think this is good check on beating both mons, since t-bolt destroys pinsir.Certain turns were jirachi has to go for iron head, magnezone can come in and take advantage.
calcs below

252 SpA Magnezone Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Pinsir: 320-380 (118 - 140.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Magnezone Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Jirachi: 148-175 (43.4 - 51.3%) -- 6.6% chance to 2HKO

Threat: Specs Noivern (useful even as rain attacker)

Noivern @ Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Hurricane
- Air Slash
- Focus Blast

252 SpA Choice Specs Noivern Air Slash vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Serperior: 312-368 (107.2 - 126.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Noivern Focus Blast vs. 100 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 428-508 (116.9 - 138.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Thanks to its blazing Spe, Noivern outspeeds both members of the core and OHKOes them (if hit).
Noivern can't enter into Stone Edge (which kills it 2 times) and CB Crunch might also OHKO (6,3% chance).
Serperior deal lots of damage with Dragon Pulse (252 SpA Life Orb Serperior Dragon Pulse vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Noivern: 203-239 (65.2 - 76.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO ) but tanks well Leaf Storms.
The ability Infiltrator lets Noivern kill Seperior behind a Substitute set up before right off the bat.

Noivern is easily killed with strong Ice moves (4x effective towards it); you have just tank one of its attack and click Ice Shard/Ice Beam/Icicle Crash.

POTENTIAL THREATS TO THE CORE

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Cloud Nine
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return
- Earthquake / Heal Bell
- Roost

Mega Altaria can effectively OHKO Tyranitar under that particular spread with a STAB Return, and in turn take little to no damage from Serperior and really is only bothered by an obnoxious Glare. While Serperior can manage to Glare out Mega Altaria, it can get chunked by a STAB Return or setup on and OHKOed the next turn. Tyranitar can't hurt it too much, other than having to rely on the shaky Stone Edge to kill it off. Alternatively, a special Altaria set with Modest spread can do the same thing, if not better.

Weavile @ Life Orb
Ability: Pickpocket
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash / Ice Punch
- Knock Off
- Low Kick
- Ice Shard

Weavile outspeeds Tyranitar and Serperior both and can OHKO each respectively with a Low Kick and Icicle Crash/Ice Punch. Weavile can effectively serve as a check, but lacks the bulk to be considered a counter. Although Weavile gets hurt on switching into a Serperior with a Sub up.

POTENTIAL PARTNER TO THE CORE

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 52 Atk / 200 SpD
Impish Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Knock Off / Superpower / U-turn
- Swords Dance
- Roost

Mega Scizor can easily bulk out and kill off Mega Altaria and Weavile both, as their attacks will hardly do anything to hurt Scizor. It can set up a Swords Dance or two, heal off the damage, and proceed to sweep both threats to the Serperior / Tyranitar core. Although a Choice Band variant can work to nearly the same effect.

Partner
keldeo-resolute.gif

Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind / Hidden Power Flying

Keldeo is a cool partner for a number of reasons. Firstly, it benefits heavily from the Pursuit support of Tyranitar eliminating stuff like Latios, and it also benefits from the general wallbreaking ability that it provides. In addition, it provides water/grass offensive coverage alongside Serperior and benefits from the latter eliminating fat waters for it. Icy Wind allows it to lure in and 2HKO LO Tornadus-T with its speed drop, wheras HP Flying allows it to lure in Mega Venusaur and Amoonguss for Serperior.

Threat:
breloom.gif

Breloom @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Spore
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Swords Dance

Breloom can easily get an SD up vs Tyranitar if its locked into either of its STABs and can take out both members with a +2 Mach Punch thereafter. It takes quite some damage vs Stone Edge so that needs to be taken into consideration. Nothing else to say tbh.

Partner:
latias.gif

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Healing Wish

Latias is a neat partner. It helps with the threat mentioned above and also Keldeo which the core may struggle switching into. The only reason Latias is run over Latios is because the HW support means some reckless plays can be made with Tyranitar and Serperior and HWish them up later in the game if need be.

Threats:
646-black.png

Kyurem-B @ Choice Band
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Outrage
- Fusion Bolt
- Ice Beam
- Dragon Claw

Kyurem-B easily outruns CB Tyranitar and more often than not it just gets melted by an Outrage from it, doing upwards 100% fairly easily. With Serperior it's a bit trickier, but in a 1v1 situation it easily comes out on top as Dragon Pulse only 2HKOes.

252 Atk Choice Band Teravolt Kyurem-B Outrage vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Serperior: 375-442 (128.8 - 151.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Teravolt Kyurem-B Outrage vs. 100 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 331-391 (90.4 - 106.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

461.png

Weavile @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Knock Off
- Low Kick

Although Low Kick has become more of a rarity it still makes Weavile a threat nonetheless. It easily outruns both members of the team and OHKOes Serperior with Icicle Crash, while OHKOing Tyranitar with Low Kick. It can't switch-in at all however.

Partners:
080-m.png

Slowbro @ Slowbronite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 80 Def / 172 SpD / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Calm Mind
- Slack Off

Mega Slowbro is a wonderful partner for many reasons. First off it provides itself as an extremely bulky pivot into the likes of Kyurem-B, Non-SD Weavile, Mega Altaria, Mega Lopunny, and countless other threats to this core. It benefits immensely from Tyranitar's Pursuit Trapping as it takes care of things like Latios, Gengar to an extent, and soften up various fleeing walls. Tyranitar also works as a stellar fast Electric check as it takes negligable damage from Mega Manectric and Raikou while being able to beat them itself. In Serperior's case, Slowbro acts as a good lure to water-types as they often come in to absorb Scald's. This creates oppurtunities for Serperior to come it and gain the advantage of a good matchup.

647.png

Keldeo @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rest
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Sleep Talk

Keldeo benefits from the Pursuit support of Tyranitar eliminating Latios, and it also benefits from the wallbreaking capability it provides. In addition, it provides itself as a stable check to the likes of Dark-types that roam the tier like the previously mentioned Weavile, Bisharp, and ironically Tyranitar.

hawlucha.png

Hawlucha @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 12 HP / 244 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- High Jump Kick
- Acrobatics

Hawlucha is capable of outspeeding and OHKO-ing both mons. Labeled as a threat.

talonflame.png

Talonflame
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 Spe
Careful Nature
- Acrobatics
- Roost
- Bulk Up
- Will-O-Wisp

Talonflame is able to OHKO Serperior and lure in Tyranitar with wisp and cripple it. Labeled as a threat.

manectric-mega.png

Manectric @ Manectite
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power Ice

Manectric OHKO's both birds and is a good check. Electric types are in general a good check to birds. Birds are a huge problem. Labeled as a Partner.

Sorry for the short descriptions. Not much to say :(.

Threat:

1)
127-m.png

Pinsir @ Pinsirite
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly / Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Return
- Close Combat
- Quick Attack

Mega Pinsir outspeeds Tyranitar and OHKOes it with Close Combat. Although Serperior outpaces it, Serperior deals less than half with HP Fire and can only threaten it with Glare while Return OHKOes. Adamant variants can even OHKO Serperior with Quick Attack after Stealth Rock.

2)
065-m.png

Alakazam @ Alakazite
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Encore

Mega Alakazam outspeeds Tyranitar and OHKO with Focus Blast. It also outpaces Serperior and can 2HKO with Psychic while Leaf Storm fails to OHKO.

3)
094.png

Gengar @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast
- Taunt

Gengar ouspeeds and OHKO Tyranitar with Focus Blast. Then, it can tank a Leaf Storm to OHKO back with Sludge Wave.

Regarding the way this thread runs: After asking around for opinions, I will be officially adopting the new method of running this thread (i.e. doing threats and partners at the same time rather than separately). Compared to the old method, the new one receives around the same number of threats and typically more partners. This is all done in a shorter time frame, which everyone I asked seemed to prefer. Thank you for the feedback and continued participation! I have updated the OP to reflect the way this thread is ran now.

The top partners for the CB Tar + Serp core are as follows: Keldeo by gamer boy, Mega Slowbro by -Magic-, and Mega Scizor by Fire Fist Ace. Nice job to gamer boy in particular for getting three consecutive partners into the archive! All of these partners cover a variety of important threats to the core. Mega Slowbro's resistance to fighting is especially appreciated here, while Mega Scizor's ability to check things like Mega Alakazam, Mega Altaria, and Gengar is handy. Furthermore, each partner takes advantage of the things the core provides to them. For example, Mega Slowbro and Keldeo enjoy Tar's ability to trap Latios and several electrics. Depending on its moves, Mega Scizor can use U-turn to provide momentum/free switch ins to the core or use Knock Off to remove items from Pokemon like Heatran, which helps Serp greatly.

New core for this round:
crawdaunt.gif

Crawdaunt @ Life Orb
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Crabhammer
- Knock Off
- Aqua Jet

metagross-mega.png

Metagross-Mega @ Metagrossite
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Zen Headbutt
- Hammer Arm
- Ice Punch

Crawdaunt packs insane power and is blessed with two great STABs to take advantage of it. Its abilities as a stall breaker are especially notable, being able to rip apart those builds like no other after a SD. It packs enough brute strength to threaten most playstyles outside of stall, and has a nice priority move in Aqua Jet to slightly make up for its lackluster speed and threaten the likes of Exca. Like every Pokemon, Crawdaunt still has its issues. Pokemon like Mega Venu, Chesnaught, and Mega Altaria pose issues for its sweep. Offensive threats like Loom are a nuisance, while faster Pokemon resisting Aqua Jet (like Latios) also present problems. Mega Metagross helps with these issues by threatening all of those Pokemon well. It's also able to use Ice Punch to take down Rocky Chomp, which is an annoying obstacle for Crawdaunt. In exchange, Crawdaunt breaks down a lot of Mega Gross' defensive answers, such as Skarm, Slowbro, Quagsire, and Hippo. Overall, they complement each other quite nicely offensively and make for a cool wallbreaking duo.

You may now begin discussing threats and partners to this core. When posting, please be sure to clarify whether the Pokemon you mention is a threat or partner. This will last 4 or 5 days depending on activity.

Threat: Smogon Bird

talonflame.gif
Talonflame (M) @ Sharp Beak
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Brave Bird
- Swords Dance
- Roost

With just a little prior damage, Talonflame can clean up the core with its dual STABs as it outpaces Metagross and hits it with Flare Blitz while Crawdaunt falls to Brave Bird.

Partner: Rotom-W

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Thunder Wave / Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split / Will-O-Wisp

Rotom-W counters Talonflame while also provides a slow Volt Switch for Crawdaunt to come in safely. Thunder Wave support is nice to patch up Crawdaunt's poor Speed although Wisp can be used to cripple Mega Scizor and Bisharp.

keldeo-resolute.gif

Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk OR 1 Atk / 30 SpA
- Scald
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind / Hidden Power

If you use Icy Wind run the first IV spread. If you run Hidden Power the second spread gives you HP Electric without lowering your speed IVs. Keldeo resists both of Crawdaunt's STABs and can OHKO with Secret Sword. It can outpace and potentially burn Metagross with STAB Scald, allowing it to be easily picked off by a teammate (e.g. Magnezone).

Threat
gyarados-mega.gif

Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Crunch
- Waterfall
- Bounce / Ice Fang

Mega Gyarados is able to take anything that Crawdaunt throws at it and set up in its face. Also, it OHKOs Mega Metagross and outpaces it at +1, allowing it to a number on the core

Threat
magnezone.gif

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power Fire
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon

OHKOs Crawdaunt without being OHKOed by a +2 Aqua Jet. Traps and either weakens or revenge kills Mega Metagross with Magnet Pull+HP Fire.

Partner
talonflame.gif

Talonflame @ Sharp Beak
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Roost
- Swords Dance

Talonflame is a really good partner for this core for a number of reasons. First of all, it is able to eliminate a vast number of this cores checks, including but not limited to the above three, and it also forms a PrioSpam core with Crawdaunt which allows for the opponent to be very quickly overwhelmed. In exchange, Talonflame benefits from the removal of Rock-types and fat grounds, with Metagross luring and KOing FatChomp and Crawdaunt nailing the rest.

quagsire.gif

Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Scald
- Recover
- Earthquake
- Toxic / Encore

While Quagsire doesn't like having its Leftovers knocked off by Crawdaunt, it can ignore Crawdaunt's boosts, sponge hits from Mega Metagross, recover excess damage with, well, Recover, even after its Leftovers have been knocked off, and wear them down with the combination of Scald and Earthquake.

Partner:
thundurus-incarnate.gif

Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Grass Knot
- Focus Blast

Is your core weak to Talonflame and bulky waters? Use Thundurus! He can outspeed and KO most members of the core. Since Crawdaunt already handles Pokemon such as Landorus, there isn't much need to run Hidden Power Ice over Grass Knot, especially since Quagsire is a threat to the core. The core also appreciates the Thunder Wave support Thundy brings.

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Bug Bite

Fast Mega Scizor really threatens this core, forcing mmeta out since bulky sets wall meta and it can sd pretty easily on meta. I'm using the fast set so that it outspeeds craw and bodies it with bug bite. With sd bug bite, it can also body meta pretty easily.

Tangrowth @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Leech Seed

physically defensive tangrowth usually pivots into both members of the core nicely and wears them down with rocky helmet recoil and leech seed while threatening sleep with sleep powder. it's also one of few mons capable of handling crawdaunt well since its capable of living a +2 knock off which is pretty insane.

+2 252 Atk Life Orb Adaptability
crawdaunt.png
Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def

: 335-395 (82.9 - 97.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Manectric @ Manectite
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Overheat / Flamethrower
- Hidden Power Ice

Mega Manectric outspeeds both Pokemon and can OHKO Cradaunt with Thunderbolt and Mega Metagross with Overheat respectively. Flamethrower can be used for consistency but cannot OHKO Mega Metagross.

2)
423.png

Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Curse
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Recover

If Mega Metagross doesn't carry Grass Knot, Gastrodon sets up on it and Recovers off the damage as necessary. This also makes it take on Crawdaunt easier.

3)

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 248 HP / 100 Def / 160 Spe
Impish Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Dragon Claw
- Roost
- Earthquake

Although this set has fallen in favour, Mega Charizard-X makes for an annoying threat for this core as it takes less than half from Zen Headbutt and can burn Mega Metagross, crippling it and healing up with Roost. Crawdaunt simply gets burned and worn down by Dragon Claw and its own LO recoil.

gastrodon-west.gif

Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Curse
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Recover

In my search of Pokemon yet to be featured for a core analysis, I ran across Togekiss! Given the hysteria surrounding stall and its difficulty to break lately, Toge can make use of its niche as a solid stall breaker to give these playstyles a scare. Generally, there are several things Toge has a hard time with due to its typing. One is offensive electric types like Thund-I and Mega Manec. Threats with strong rock STAB, such as Mega Diancie and Scarf Tyranitar, also pose issues. Its weakness to steel and poison also leave Toge susceptible to the likes of Jirachi and the lesser used Nidoking. Heatran is also a nuisance, as they are usually faster than Togekiss nowadays and pose problems between Taunt and its other moves.

With its solid bulk and useful set of immunities/resistances, Gastro makes for a good partner due to its ability to check or completely wall many of the aforementioned threats. In return, Toge helps Gastro by threatening bothersome grass types like Tangrowth and Breloom. It further assists Gastro by checking Latios and using Heal Bell to rid it of any status conditions, which is useful given its dislike for Will-O-Wisp and Toxic. Between Gastro's very useful water immunity (shoutouts Volcanion~) and Toge's fighting resistance, Pokemon like Specs Keldeo, who does a ton to Togekiss with Hydro (63.5 - 75%), are also forced to predict more cautiously.

You may now begin discussing threats and partners. Make sure to specify whether the Pokemon you mention is a threat or a partner. This will run for 4 or 5 days depending on activity. Have fun!

Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Grass Knot
- Focus Blast

Although it is quite the interesting option, Grass Knot Thundurus is quite uncommon. However, with the rise in usage of Gastrodon, Grass Knot has more value. Since it generally has little usage, Gastrodon users often switch it in without having any worry as well. Thundurus easily OHKOs Togekiss with Thunderbolt and 2HKOs Gastrodon with Grass Knot. It is able to switch comfortably into the former since it is immune to Thunder Wave and takes little damage from Air Slash.

Despite being declared unviable in the current meta. Glalie is able to OHKO and 2HKO both Togekiss and Gastrodon with Double Edge and Freeze Dry respectively.

252+ Atk Refrigerate Mega Glalie Double-Edge vs. 252 HP / 84 Def Togekiss: 506-596 (135.2 - 159.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
- Roost

Charizard-Y outpaces both members and OHKO Togekiss with a Sun-boosted Fire Blast and Solar Beam on Gastrodon. It also doesn't care about anything those two does to it.

Partner

Diancie @ Diancite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 32 Atk / 224 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm
- Hidden Power Fire / Psychic
- Protect

Mega Diancie is able to check Kyurem-B, Thundurus and Mega Charizard-Y which are troublesome for this core. Hidden Power Fire is a nice option to smack Skarmory, Excadrill and Offensive Mega Scizor. However, Psychic is an option to lure Mega Venusaur and Amoonguss. Gastrodon can switch into Pokemon that Diancie dislikes such as Scizor, Bisharp, and Gengar while Togekiss pressures Tangrowth and Celebi.

  • Please post only Pokémon that are viable in OU. This means they should be listed on the viability rankings thread.

With rules like this one, I prefer exercising leniency rather than enforcing it strictly. I don't want to discourage contributions, so if someone would like to mention a Pokemon that's threatening to the core and unlisted in the Viability Rankings, that's fine as long as they provide a genuine explanation behind their choice. Of course, the majority of threats and partners posted here should still be ones viable in OU and listed on the Viability Rankings. However, there's no harm in having some unranked Pokemon posted every now and then to shake things up a little. This was the case in the previous Core Analysis thread and the same policy is extended to this one. I can make this rule clearer in the OP.

This said, while Mega Glalie isn't too great in OU, the main idea behind the nomination is telling of something notable: how offensive ice types can take advantage of and threaten this core well. This includes Pokemon like SD Weavile, Freeze Dry Mamoswine, and the more recent Choice Specs Kyurem-B being written up here (feel free to take these as threats). This is an example of how you can spin nominations like Mega Glalie into a more positive light to notice flaws with the given core and possibly give others ideas on what to submit. Feel free to re-add Mega Glalie to your post ethanlol, especially since you already spent time writing something up.

Thanks for the submissions so far, keep them coming!
