Pokemon: Hawlucha
hawlucha.gif

Hawlucha @ Sitrus Berry/Power Herb*
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 12 HP / 252 Atk / 244 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute/Sky Attack
- Swords Dance
- High Jump Kick
- Acrobatics

*Only if Sky Attack is used.

Description: Standard Hawlucha set. It won't be able to switch in on either of the Pokemon's attacks but will be effectively able to check them if it is brought in safely. Preventing Gyarados from getting +1 is also necessary for Hawlucha to work. Everything else is self explanatory. It is able to live Sucker punch from Toxicroak and KO it back as well as Gyarados with SE moves after stealth rocks.

Calculations
:
  • 252 Atk Hawlucha High Jump Kick vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Gyarados: 312-368 (94.2 - 111.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
  • 252 Atk Hawlucha Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Toxicroak: 404-476 (131.5 - 155%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 252+ Atk Life Orb Toxicroak Sucker Punch vs. 8 HP / 0 Def Hawlucha: 69-81 (23 - 27%) -- 47.2% chance to 4HKO

Scolipede @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spe/4 Def
Adamant Nature
-Megahorn
-Poison Jab
-Earthquake

Offensive Scolipede is very threatening to this core. Basically, it can OHKO both members of the core with Megahorn/EQ, while being able to live any unboosted hit. Unfortunately, Gyara at +1 can give it some trouble, but if predicted correctly, Scoli can still win.

Calcs:
252+ Atk Life Orb Scolipede Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Toxicroak: 367-432 (119.5 - 140.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Life Orb Scolipede Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Gyarados: 432-510 (130.5 - 154%) -- guaranteed OHKO

"'Cause now I'm a warrior

Mega Scizor is a pretty big threat to the core, given that it sets up on both Toxicroak and Mega Gyarados extremely freely, and OHKOes both with Bullet Punch and U-turn/Superpower/Bug Bite after a Swords Dance. It can also switch into both Toxicroak and Mega Gyarados because of its natural bulk, and Roost to replenish health lost.

Calcs:
252 Atk Mold Breaker Mega Gyarados Waterfall vs. 248 HP / 16+ Def Mega Scizor: 102-120 (29.7 - 34.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252 Atk Mold Breaker Mega Gyarados Waterfall vs. 248 HP / 16+ Def Mega Scizor: 151-178 (44 - 51.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

This looks a bit shaky to me, since Scizor can only switch in on Gyarados with rocks up if the Gyarados user misplays. If Gyarados DDs on the switch, Scizor has no chance to beat it (your second calc), and if Gyarados Waterfalls on the switch Scizor has to Roost and hope that Gyarados does not DD on that turn. Gyarados can also set up pretty freely alongside Scizor if it comes in before going mega. It does take a massive chunk out of Mega Gyarados with an unboosted U-Turn or Bug Bite though.

Scizor does not have to counter both members of the core, it just has to be a big threat to the core and neither Toxicroak nor Mega Gyarados can beat Mega Scizor 1v1 let alone if it has set up. Malley

Yeah, the same could be said about you as well Malley. Diancie looks like a pretty shaky check too because of the 50/50s b.w. Gyarados M-Evoloving or not.

If Gyara DDs on the switch, it's a 2HKO with Waterfall then yes? Well, he has Superpower and U-Turn do some good damage and the fact that he can scare out Toxicroak and set up with M-Scizor makes it a threat to the core overall

True, but I still felt some of the claims (setting up freely, switching in) were worth discussing.

You're not wrong here, I guess DarkNostalgia can mention that Scizor has an easier time setting up on Toxicroak rather than mention both mons

I swear this thing is a threat u gotta prepare for it, how talon threat the core well is really simply to explain this every sett of talon threat the core if the core switch in, if talon if in or talon revenge both so they're 3 cases in which talon always threat the core. The way this bird threat gyarados is, if talon is offensive SD BB 2hko after SR is Gyara switch in (Obviosly u dont switch in ur offensive mon but if he happens), in other case if talon try to revenge it does like 50% after sr to MegaGyarados yes ik doesnt kill it but that why i mentioned the revenge word, and last and the most popular set around this days if it is the stallbreaker set of talon u can WoW neutrilize Gyara as a threat. Croak obviously BB straigh HKO either version of Talon.

Kyurem-B tears this core up pretty badly, it can ohko both mons with the combination of earth power and fusion bolt. Toxicroak has a chance to kill Kyube with drain punch but it's a low chance, gyarados on the other hand can barely two hit ko Kyurem with an unboosted crunch.

Terrakion @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- X-Scissor

So, while weak to STABs from either member of the core and far removed from its glory days, Scarf Terrakion does put in work in blocking any of their attempts to sweep by outspeeding and OHKOing both!
Croak only has a very small chance of living that Scarf EQ, while M-Evo'd Gyarados falls to Close Combat and unmega'd Gyarados drops to a Stone Edge, which, while potentially prediction reliant, still gives Terrakion a chance in either case.

Calcs:
252 Atk Terrakion Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Toxicroak: 306-362 (99.6 - 117.9%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Terrakion Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Gyarados: 362-428 (109.3 - 129.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Terrakion Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Gyarados: 392-464 (118.4 - 140.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Terrakion obviously can't switch in either, though, which makes the castle-wrecking bull a check. That said, you can try and be a boss predicting a Gyara Crunch (gives Atk boost!) or Croak Gunk Shot~~

Latias @ Life Orb

- Healing Wish

As Mega Gyarados + Toxicroak struggle with Electric-types such as Raikou and Mega Manectric and Jolteon Latias is a pretty cool partner as it offers an answer to them. Latias is also a good check to Keldeo, as Toxicroak is not that reliable to be honest as a check to Keldeo because Specs or +1 Secret Sword 2HKOes. Latias also deals with Dragon-types sucha as Kyurem-B and Garchomp which are equally annoying for the core, and also provides invaluable Healing Wish support to RAISE GYARADOS and toxicroak FROM THE ASHES and also Defog to stop Stealth Rock and Spikes wearing down the members of the core.

Changes to the core would be Ice Fang over Earthquake on Mega Gyarados to deal with Mega Altaria better and have a backup plan for Garchomp, as Latias deals with Rotom-W well enough.

edit: i like how everyone looked at the bludz's good core post LOL

Mega Gyarados + Toxicroak is very hard to wall as a core, outside of pokemon like Skarmory and Mega Sableye. The main problem however is that many pokemon can beat this core before it has set up and this is especially a problem against offensive teams. First change I wanna make is Taunt > Earthquake on Mega Gyarados so the core doesn’t really have to worry about stall that much. To find setup opportunities against offensive teams, you have to keep momentum so I am looking for a pokemon that can keep momentum while beating many threats to this core when both Gyarados and Toxicroak are unboosted (Mega Diancie, Electric Types, Gallade, Gardevoir) The most important targets are Mega Scizor, Mega Diancie and Mega Manectric.
When looking for a teammate I was looking for a pokemon that could beat threats such as Scizor and Altaria while also having either U-Turn or Volt Switch. Other voltturners such as Scizor and Magneton were able to beat more pokemon than Rotom-H can 1v1 but the I chose Rotom-Heat because it beats the 3 of the biggest offensive threats: Mega Manectric (Electric types in general) Talonflame and Mega Scizor. While it fails to beat pokemon like Mega Altaria, Kyurem-B and Mega Diancie 1v1, it can still pivot out with Volt Switch or can burn them if it runs an alternative Wisp set. I will separate both sets because they work different on the team:

Choice Scarf Rotom-H is able to switch in against the mentioned threats like Mega Scizor and Thundurus and Volt Switch out, giving the setup sweepers Toxicroak and Mega Gyarados opportunities to set up. Threats to the core like Mega Diancie can slowly be weakened because Volt Switch can do over 40% which puts Mega Diancie in range of a +2 Sucker Punch from Toxicroak after 2 switchins with stealth rocks up. With HP Ice, Rotom-H can surprise Landorus-T and Tankchomp and kill them both on the switch in (Lando-T dies after rocks and Garchomp is outsped and 2hko’d)

Rotom-Heat @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power Ice
- Trick

Defensive Rotom-H works similar as Scarf Rotom-H. However, the big difference is that defensive Rotom-H doesn’t rely on prediction to beat Landorus-T, Mega Altaria (doesn’t beat 1v1 but cripples it with wisp + slow volt switches to a check) and Garchomp, but is always able to get of a Will-O-Wisp and cripple these threats for the rest of the match. Burned Landorus-T is setup fodder for Gyarados and again: Volt Switch gives Gyarados and Toxicroak opportunities to set up. Physical Defensive can be used because it checks DD Altaria, Scizor and Talonflame well but Specially Defensive is also useful to beat Charizard Y, Thundurus and Mega Manectric.

Rotom-Heat @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Overheat
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Rest

There is not a best choice between the two sets. Scarf is a good set because it is better at getting chip damage against stuff like Mega Diancie but being locked in Volt Switch against a ground type is really bad because this core relies on momentum to sweep. For the same reason I didn't go for Scarf Heatran over Scarf Rotom-H, as the momentum is really needed and Scarf Heatran provides very little momentum in comparison with Rotom-H. Defensive sets lack power and speed but they are able to take on the threats to this core (Lando-T, Mega Altaria, Thundurus) better than offensive Rotom-H can. Wisp + Slow Volt Switch is pretty cool and if the opponent decides to stay in with their Mega Altaria (for example) they become setup fodder for one of Rotom-H's teammates. I personally prefer the defensive set as it is able to do Rotom-H's main job: giving the core momentum while checking threats like Scizor without being worn down by hazards as quickly as the scarf set.

Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SpD

This set can take on a ton of the main threats to the core 1v1, and even using some of them as set up fodder, it also threaten to set up on the opponent's team, making them less likely to bring in a threat to the core in case of a double switch. Spreading Scald burns can also cripple a ton of the physical attackers that threaten this core and wear down the opposing team for the core members to sweep.

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 244 Atk / 12 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Freeze-Dry

With its dual STABs, Mamoswine can defeat Thundurus-I, Garchomp and Landorus-T, which are difficult for the core to handle. Freeze Dry also allows it to lure Rotom-W which can burn and cripple both members of the core. Toxicroak can also help to handle Keldeo and Azumarill if it comes in on a Water-type move (which is their safest move against Mamoswine unless they want to risk getting be crippled by EQ). Priority Ice Shard also allows it to check a boosted Mega Altaria, and other weakened threats. This trio is still going to find it tough to handle Mega Gardevoir, Mega Scizor, Mega Gallade and Mega Sableye. Mega Diancie is also going to be a pain in the neck unless you win a 50-50.

Note: Use Substitute > EQ on Mega Gyarados as it's sole target, Rotom-W is already lured by Mamoswine. This allows you to set-up on Slowbro, who loves switching in on Mamo. You can also prevent Scald burns by hiding behind a Substitute. Gyarados also likes hiding behind a Substitute to have a better match-up against Mega Sableye.

Note 2: Nice weakness to Scarf Terrakion. Even Toxicroak dies to 2 Close Combats.

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Magnezone checks and counters many threats for the M-Gyarados + Toxicroack core. It oustpeed Mega-Diance without RP, and can deal with common switch ins like skarmory and both scizor and M-scizor (not using CC in the switch). It can also check SpD Talon and generate momentum with volt switch.

Some calcs:

252 SpA Magnezone Flash Cannon vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Diancie: 484-576 (200.8 - 239%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Magnezone Hidden Power Fire vs. 248 HP / 200 SpD Scizor: 252-300 (73.4 - 87.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Magnezone Hidden Power Fire vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Scizor: 316-372 (92.1 - 108.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Magnezone Hidden Power Fire vs. 248 HP / 200 SpD Mega Scizor: 220-260 (64.1 - 75.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Magnezone Volt Switch vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Talonflame: 210-248 (58.4 - 69%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Not only SpD Talon, it can outspeed the Attacker one, and OHKO with volt swith before his Flare Blitz:

252 SpA Magnezone Volt Switch vs. 120 HP / 0 SpD Talonflame: 312-368 (95.4 - 112.5%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

It can also check Kyurem-B:

252 SpA Magnezone Flash Cannon vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Kyurem-B: 288-338 (73.6 - 86.4%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

As SketchUp has said, you can use Magneton over Mgnezone to outspeed big threats to this core like DD Mega Altaria, DD Adamant Gyarados, Talonflame and LO Alakazam. Here the set and some calcs:

rezzalo I considered something similar but with Magneton over Magnezone. DD Mega Altaria, DD Adamant Gyarados, Talonflame and LO Alakazam are some big threats and Magneton outspeeds them whereas Magnezone does not. Might consider Magneton > Magnezone or at least give it a little mention in your post

SketchUp edited with your information, I didn't think about outspeeding DD Mega Altaria and DD Adamant Gyarados but it can be really important for this core! Thanks for the information :)

Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Encore
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
So I scrolled through the threats and looked at the 3 biggest ones imo and Alakazam seems to kill almost all of them after rocks or puts them in range of sucker punch from toxicroak, alakazam not only covers the threat to this core but it adds coverage and adds reliable speed to it, Alakazam obviously handles more threats to this core but I only calc'd the most threatening ones, if you'd like calcs for more mons to prove its a nice member of the core I will provide them.

Reserving Torn-T.
Pokémon: Tornadus-Therian
tornadus-therian.gif

Tornadus-Therian (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 76 Atk / 216 SpA / 216 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Superpower
- U-turn
- Hurricane
- Grass Knot/Taunt/Heatwave

Description: Tornadus-T can be a really good pivot for this core. It helps to deal with things which the core might have some trouble with at first like Mega Venusaur.Hurrican can be a abit shaky but it will pull through. Taunt can prevent hazards from being set up and U-Turn for momentum which is needless to say.
