Breloom (QC 3/3) [GP 2/2]

AMOONGUSS SUCKS

[Overview]

-One of the best Spore users in the game
-Technician Mach Punch + Bullet Seed
-Super frail
-decent offensive check to sand and rain (to a lesser extent), as well as a solid check to Pokemon such as Rotom-W and Gastrodon

[SET]
name: Physical Attacker
move 1: Spore
move 2: Mach Punch
move 3: Bullet Seed
move 4: Protect
item: Life Orb / Focus Sash
nature: Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd

[SET COMMENTS]

-Spore incapacitates an opposing Pokemon, and usually results in it the Pokemon dying soon after
-Mach Punch is a STAB priority move that is also boosted by Technician, allowing Breloom to damage the opposition and pick off weakened foes
-Bullet Seed is a strong STAB move after Technician, and can be useful for breaking Substitutes and then hitting the Pokemon behind the sub (it also gets around Rindo berries)
-Protect: It's Doubles. nuff said

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

-Low Sweep is stronger than Mach Punch, making it helpful for KOing Pokemon such as Heatran whom Mach Punch cannot KO
-Stone Edge lets Breloom take out Pokemon such as Thundurus and Chandelure, and is especially helpful with Focus Sash
-Jolly nature is key in allowing Breloom to outrun Pokemon such as Heatran and get off a Spore / Low Sweep
-Max Attack
-Adamant nature can be used to grant more power
-Breloom won't be taking many attacks anyway
-Life Orb gives Breloom an added boost in power that it very much appreciates
-Focus Sash can be useful since it often allows for a guaranteed Spore
-Focus Sash can be broken by Sandstorm, however, making it not as reliable as Life Orb (Breloom can still take a hit with it and then Spore an opposing Pokemon, which is effectively a decent trade)
-Fighting Gem is also an option to power up Mach Punch in case the user needs a key KO
-Heatran can be a good partner since it can make an enemy Chandelure think twice about using Heat Wave
-Breloom appreciates having a partner that can use moves such as Tailwind or Icy wind in order to make up for Breloom's middling Speed; Suicune is a great example of this, especially since its bulky
-ScarfTar is also a good partner since it can take care of Pokemon that trouble Breloom such as Latios and Tornadus while Breloom helps it out by taking out bulky Water-types
-Rain teams also appreciate Breloom since it can defeat Abomasnow, Tyranitar, Rotom-W, and Gastrodon

[Other Options]
-Shallow movepool
-Helping Hand
-bulky Poison heal variant to allow for longevity and a status immunity
-Not bulky enough for Stun Spore
-Not bulky enough for Swords Dance in Doubles
-Substitute

[Checks and Counters]
-Chandelure can tank any move that is not Stone Edge (or Spore) and OHKO with Heat Wave
-Thundurus and Thundurus-Therian can do the same and OHKO with HP Flying
-Dragonite can do the same and OHKO Breloom; Multiscale lets it tank Stone Edge if it is still intact
-Latios / Latias both resist Breloom's STAB moves and can OHKO it
-Tornadus is in the same boat as Latios
-Heracross is in the same boat as the above
-Sleep Talk Pokemon
-Lum Berry Pokemon
-Other priority users (Weavile, Scizor, Mamoswine)
-Intimidate Pokemon (Landorus-T, Salamence)
-Very bulky Pokemon (Cresselia)
-Bulky attackers that are not weak to Mach Punch and outrun Breloom
-Sandstorm / hail can take away Focus Sash
-Amoonguss and Volcarona can also be problems, as they can use Rage Power to sponge Breloom's attacks (this is especially true if they have a Lum Berry)
-Dusclops
-Mew
-Jirachi
-Sableye
-Cloyster

[Overview]

Do not let Breloom's harmless appearance fool you: everyone's favorite mushroom (not you Amoonguss; no one likes you) is a very threatening Pokemon. Spore is a deadly move, and Breloom is one of the best users of it. If that wasn't enough, access to Technician-boosted STAB moves in Bullet Seed and Mach Punch make it a very potent physical threat. Its typing allows it to be a solid offensive check to sand and rain teams and also lets it defeat Rotom-W and Gastrodon. However, not all is well for the brave mushroom warrior. Its frailty and middling Speed stat leave much to be desired. Despite its flaws, however, Breloom can be a very annoying Pokemon to deal with in Doubles.

[SET]
name: Physical Attacker
move 1: Spore
move 2: Mach Punch
move 3: Bullet Seed
move 4: Protect
ability: Technician
item: Life Orb / Focus Sash
nature: Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Spore is what makes Breloom a truly threatening Pokemon in the metagame. Putting an opposing Pokemon to sleep usually renders it useless for the remainder of the game, crippling the opposition. Mach Punch is a great tool in Breloom's arsenal as well, allowing it to have a way to get around its average Speed stat; Technician-boosted Mach Punch is great for finishing off weakened foes. Bullet Seed is Breloom's other STAB move, and it hits extremely hard. Being a multi-hit move makes it especially useful, as it can bypass the opposition's Substitutes. Bullet Seed also gets around any pesky Rindo Berries the enemy might have up their sleeve. Protect is a staple on most of the Pokemon in Doubles, and Breloom is no exception; Protect is especially helpful on Breloom due to its aforementioned frailty.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Low Sweep is an alternative over Protect, as it allows Breloom to KO Pokemon such as Heatran that Mach Punch would fail to knock out. Stone Edge is another possible move in this slot and is especially useful if Breloom is holding a Focus Sash, as it lets the mushroom warrior defeat otherwise major threats such as Thundurus and Chandelure. However, Life Orb is the preferred option over Focus Sash, as it gives Breloom a power boost it greatly appreciates. Focus Sash can also be broken by sandstorm, making it less reliable; however, it does often allow for a guaranteed Spore, making it very useful at times. A Fighting Gem could also be used, allowing the Breloom user to possibly get a key KO with Mach Punch or Low Sweep that would otherwise not have been possible. Max Attack is used to give Breloom as much power as possible, while a Jolly nature with 252 Speed EVs guarantees that Breloom outruns threats such as Heatran. An Adamant nature can be used for more power, but it is usually not worth the decrease in Speed.

Heatran can be a good partner for Breloom, as it can make Pokemon such as Chandelure think twice about using Heat Wave, giving Breloom more leeway to work its magic. Choice Scarf Tyranitar is also a good partner, as it can eliminate threats to Breloom such as Latios and Tornadus; Breloom also defeats the bulky Water-types that give Tyranitar trouble. Breloom fits well on rain teams, as it can defeat Pokemon such as Gastrodon and Rotom-W that would otherwise cause problems; Breloom also defeats Abomasnow and Tyranitar, allowing the rain to stay on the field. Other good partners for Breloom include Pokemon who have access to moves such as Tailwind and Icy Wind, as these moves can help make up for Breloom's poor Speed stat; Suicune is a great example of a Pokemon that can fill this role.

[Other Options]

Breloom's shallow movepool means that it lacks many other options. Helping Hand can be useful for helping Breloom's partner, while Substitute can take advantage of Breloom's ability to force switches. Breloom also has access to Swords Dance, but it is not bulky enough to use this move effectively in Doubles; the same can be said for Stun Spore. However, a bulky Poison Heal variant of Breloom can be used, as it allows Breloom to have greater longevity and a status immunity.

[Checks and Counters]

Pokemon that resist Breloom's STAB moves give it a lot of problems. Chandelure can tank any move outside of Stone Edge (and Spore) and sauté the beloved mushroom. Thundurus can do the same, as can Tornadus, with Hidden Power Flying and Acrobatics, respectively. Dragonite can tank any hit if Multiscale is intact and KO Breloom with a variety of moves. Latios and Latias can wall Breloom completely (outside of Spore) and can KO it with relative ease; Heracross can do the same. Lum Berry Pokemon also cause Breloom massive problems, as they can KO it after brushing off Spore. Amoonguss and Volcarona are especially troublesome, as they can use Rage Powder to redirect Breloom's attacks. Other priority users, such as Weavile, Scizor, and Mamoswine, can also KO Breloom rather easily. Pokemon with Intimidate, such as Landorus-T and Salamence, can weaken Breloom and then KO it. Bulky Pokemon such as Cresselia and Dusclops can also sponge any hit Breloom can dish out. Due to Breloom's middling Speed stat, many Pokemon in the metagame are faster than it, meaning they can easily KO Breloom so long as they are able to tank a Mach Punch; Jirachi and Garchomp are examples of Pokemon that can do this. Sableye can Taunt Breloom to stop Spore and then Will-O-Wisp it to incapacitate it. Cloyster can OHKO Breloom with Icicle Spear, which also conveniently bypasses Focus Sash. Finally, having sandstorm or hail can nullify Breloom's Focus Sash, allowing it to be KOed more easily.

Overview
- Should mention how it's a decent offensive checks to Sand (Tyranitar / Excadrill), to a lesser extent Rain (Politoed) and to some goodstuffs mon (Rotom-W, Gastrodon)

Additional Comments
- Partners should include Pokemon that appreciates above threats eliminated. For instance, it pairs well with Scarf TTar - TTar takes cares of Tornadus, Latios, etc while Breloom takes care of bulky Water-types. Pairs well with Heatran, too, for similar reasons (as well as for reasons you have mentioned). Rain teams may also appreciate Breloom's company, since it matches well vs TTar, checks Abomasnow with Mach Punch, and eliminates Rain checks like Rotom-W and Gastrodon.

- Breloom also enjoys some Speed control from its partner. Tailwind / Icy Wind / Paralysis / Trick Room support are nice ways to give Breloom a chance to spam its strong Bullet Seed after it Spores something. Pokemon like Suciune is tanky enough to tank hits and support Breloom with Icy Wind or Tailwind, for instance.

- I dont see much synergy between Gastrodon and Breloom tbh, so I'd remove it for now

Other Options
- Wake Up Slap / Rock Tomb is a gimmick so I wont mention them
- Helping Hand to support faster Pokemon
- Mention a bulky Poison Heal variant as a possible alternative for improved longevity and status immunity

Checks and Counters
- Amoonguss / Volcarona @ Lum (Rage Powders Breloom's STAB moves including Mach Punch and soaks them up like nothing)
- Latios / Latias - resists stab and destroys Breloom
- Tornadus - see Latios
- Heracross
- add Salamence under Intimidate Pokemon
- Dusclops

@Nollan - well i figured Dusclops coming in after something is slept. Even if it gets slept, I wouldn't be surprised if it has the bulk to survive the sleep turns and wake up ;x

Dusclops is a check/counter? Spore shuts it down from what I know.

I agree that Other Options should definitely include Helping Hand, its a great support move that Breloom can make good use of. Sableye is also a nuisance for Breloom to deal with, it can shut it down with Prankster Will O' Wisp and Taunt.

Ok, some things I'd like mentioned off the top of my head:
- Icy Wind / Tailwind. A lot more threatening when faster mons that dont mind Mach Punch can't take advantage of its middling speed and fragility so this is much appreciated. Also lets it put mons to sleep easier since it now outspeeds.
- Fighting Gem should be mentioned somewhere
- Add Thundurus, Mew and Jirachi to checks (p. sure the can all ko, mew and Jirachi outspeed and Thundurus can taunt even if it doesn't outspeed but pretty sure bulky set can outspeed anyways)
- When talking about Bullet Seed also mention that it gets around Rindo berries

Thanks for implementing virtually all of our checks, ShakeItUp! You still missed a few

I guess you can mention Adamant Nature for a more powerful Mach Punch @ LO / Fighting Gem to ensure some KOs

-Rain teams also appreciate Breloom since it can defeat Abomasnow and Tyranitar
Mentioning Breloom's ability to destroy Rotom-W and Gastrodon is also important here

Add Sableye to Checks and Counters, as Nollan advised

You should place Technician as the ability - Breloom has multiple abilities after-all so it should specifically be mentioned. Substitute should be an OO since Breloom has a tendency to force switches, even if it isn't optimal.

For Checks and Counters: I would mention Mamowsine, who basically craps all over Breloom, even able to OHKO through sash. Likewise, Cloyster should also be mentioned - choice scarf outspeeds and OHKOs through sash.
