Metagame 350 Cup

I've been playing some games on rom, and one mon I really like is Mareanie. Yes, it loses to PDon, but it sets/absorbs tspikes, can use scald, and walls a bunch of special threats like the many shell smashers. Regenerator is also a godsend, especially since it doesn't autolose to MGar. while 104/124/104 isn't that great the type more than makes up for it in most matchups. It pairs quite well with Slowpoke and Foongus to form an incredible regenerator.
Cutiefly is also really good. Quiver dance is really hype, especially with its decent coverage, and since 350 cup lacks BP clause it can do that too. While as of right now it faces a lot of competition from the likes of torchic and Smeargle as a baton passer, it can do more with the boosts itself.
Abra and Ghastly are great. if you are building offense, slot them in- it's well worth it on pretty much any team. Abra especially is excellent, as LO hits like a truck and Sash is pretty much the perfect rker.
Finally, the most important mon RN is smeargle. Spore just remover a foe (unless grass type), while you can instead use lovely kiss to deal with that. Smeagle then proceeds to do some combination of Smash, Sub, QD, or shift gear pass to a teammate to sweep. If it gets to, say, pdon, you better hope you have strong priotity- and lots of it, because even at -1 PDon is pretty bulky - and thats not getting into other sweepers.

Skrelp looks like a good physical or special attacker:
New stats: 100/120/120/120/120/60
Really slow, but great 120/120 attack stats and 100/120/120 defensive stats, along with a good typing and ability.

Skrelp @ Choice Band
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Waterfall
- Gunk Shot
- Play Rough

Skrelp @ Choice Specs
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

Maybe a bit unorthodox here but:

Wynaut @ Leftovers
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Relaxed nature
- Counter
- Mirror Coat
- Destiny Bond
- Encore

Stats: 190 HP / 46 Atk / 98 Def / 46 SpA / 98 Def / 46 Spe

Basically a better Wobbuffet. Same base HP but 40 more in both defenses.

Side note: Gothita also becomes a better Gothitelle

Mienfoo @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive nature
- High Jump Kick
- U-Turn
- Knock Off / Poison Jab
- Hidden Power Ice

Stats: 90 HP / 170 Atk / 100 Def / 110 SpA / 100 SpD / 130 Spe

That bulk with Regenerator will be lots of fun. :> Especially with that attack stat!

Rufflet @ Choice Band
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Superpower
- Shadow Claw / Return
- U-turn / Return
Return can be slashed over Shadow Claw or U-Turn if you don't care about Honedge or pivoting, respectively, but it doesn't hit anything notable except like, Chinchou.
This set 2HKOs literally the entire metagame after rocks. It cleanly OHKOs everything up to uninvested 145/145 bulk after rocks (in other words, everything up to spdef Primal Groudon's physical bulk). It speed ties with Arceus and has a tiny bit less bulk, while hitting significantly harder than MRay. This is what sets it apart from the (admittedly even stronger) Darumaka, which is slightly frailer and much slower, while having worse coverage (Waterceus can switch in to Daru, for example, because it can outspeed it and Recover stall). My counterplay has devolved into "lure it in with scarfers" and "sack something and force it out while rocks are up, to wear it down".

Scarf sets are also perfectly viable (outspeeds standard +2 Geoxern with Jolly and OHKOs after rocks + minimal chip), as is Adamant, though this misses out on a lot of speed benchmarks while not getting any relevant KOs off the top of my head.

All of these calcs are done with Jolly, which allows you to outspeed Jolly Cranidos and Adamant Drilbur, as well as speed tie with Arceus, MMence, etc. Adamant is inferior imo, but still an option which makes you even harder to wall.
Power comparison vs MRay:
252+ Atk Choice Band Rayquaza-Mega Dragon Ascent vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Arceus: 354-417 (92.6 - 109.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Brave Bird vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Arceus: 451-532 (118 - 139.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
It hits harder than Mega Rayquaza

Bulk vs Arceus
252 Atk Choice Band Victini V-create vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Arceus: 313-370 (81.9 - 96.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Victini V-create vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Rufflet: 367-433 (87.1 - 102.8%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO

vs "walls":
252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Brave Bird vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Groudon-Primal: 351-414 (87 - 102.7%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Arceus-Water: 336-396 (75.6 - 89.1%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Giratina: 336-396 (66.6 - 78.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowpoke: 316-373 (56 - 66.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery (this is 180/130 bulk)
252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Zygarde-Complete: 333-393 (52.3 - 61.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferroseed: 246-289 (64.7 - 76%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
If you don't resist, you can't switch in to Brave Bird.

vs resists:
252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Shadow Claw vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Honedge (90/200 bulk): 178-210 (46.3 - 54.6%) -- 59% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Shadow Claw vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Doublade: 148-176 (45.9 - 54.6%) -- 97.7% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock (eviolite is currently banned but might not always be)
252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Rhyhorn (160/190 bulk): 316-374 (60.3 - 71.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery, followed by
-1 252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Rhyhorn: 212-250 (40.4 - 47.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery, for a minimum of 100.7% after rocks and one round of lefties
252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Arceus-Rock: 448-528 (100.9 - 118.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Zapdos: 212-249 (55.2 - 64.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Chinchou (150/76 bulk): 225-266 (44.6 - 52.7%) -- 85.9% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Choice Band Hustle Rufflet Return vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Chinchou: 384-453 (76.1 - 89.8%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
tl;dr Requesting a quickban (or at least a suspect) of Rufflet.

Pawniard @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance

New stats:
90/170/140/80/80/120

Does Bisharp stuff, but a lot better due to its new good speed stat, high attack and good defenses.
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Pawniard Iron Head vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Spritzee: 530-624 (102.7 - 120.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 SpA Spritzee Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Pawniard: 151-178 (47 - 55.4%) -- 72.7% chance to 2HKO
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Pawniard Sucker Punch vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Groudon-Primal: 242-285 (60 - 70.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Pawniard Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Rufflet: 363-426 (86.2 - 101.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Not too terrible all things considered.

After playing some games on ROM, I think Ubers are still pretty good. Stuff like Pdon, Arceus and Xerneas still give some work. Deoxys-S is also pretty good. It's faster than Smeargle and it can Taunt opposing lead Smeargle while setting up Stealth Rock. Speaking of pdon, here's the set that I've been using.

383-primal.png

Groudon @ Red Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpA
Naughty Nature
- Swords Dance
- Precipice Blades
- Fire Punch
- Solar Beam

Might be a weird set, but this handles a LOT of things, including many defensive mons and offensive mons. Calcs:

4 SpA Groudon-Primal Solar Beam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Hippopotas: 282-334 (59.2 - 70.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Groudon-Primal Precipice Blades vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mareanie: 342-404 (84.6 - 100%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

4 SpA Groudon-Primal Solar Beam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Slowpoke: 294-348 (52.1 - 61.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Groudon-Primal Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Shroomish: 330-390 (74.3 - 87.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

So yeah. It handles many common defensive mons while it can take a hit from them. It has some trouble vs Cubone though. It can switch into anything except Solarbeam while.

252+ Atk Thick Club Cubone Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Groudon-Primal: 396-468 (98 - 115.8%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

It also has trouble vs Vibrava (resists all STAB), Spritzee (didn't get 2HKO'd by any of the moves above without SD, so it can Toxic +Wish + Protect stall you) and your regular Ubers check (Arceus-Ground, Giratina-O, Ho-oh).

Here are all of the sets I could think of off the top of my head. I might be missing a few major things, though.

What happens to pokémon whose stats, when doubled, would go over 255? For example, Wailmer's base HP goes from 130 to 260. Are these pokémon banned?

Edit: There are no pokémon that have this problem with a BST of 350 or less.

If there were, though, would they be banned?

I'd assume they'd cap at 255. That's what we do in MnM.

How can I play the metagame?
Leader's Choice is playable by challenge on the main server, but does not get a monthly ladder. You can find people in the Other Metas room to play usually.
350 cup is also playable on ROM, but until the end of the month main is more reliable. Usually when playing on ROM it's best to find someone to play before headnig over to that server.

Everyone seems to forget about Magnemite.

Stats:

50/70/140/190/110/90

Choice Trapper

Magnemite @ Choice Specs/Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 120 Hp / 252 SpAtk / 136 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power Fire

Because of its crazy Special Attack, unique typing, and decent bulk, Magnemite can either act as a powerful nuke or sweet revenge killer while being an effective Steel trapper. Thunderbolt acts as a powerful STAB move while Volt Switch adds extra consistency. Flash Cannon is a great secondary STAB that shoots down Fairy and Rock types that want to come in. Hidden Power Fire is your best weapon against Ferroseed and hurts Scizor, Excadrill, and Genesect more than anything else. Furthermore, it give you a reliable and ironic weapon to punish opposing Magnemite that may want to come in and trap you.

The beauty of the EV spread is that it allows Magnemite to get its job done regardless of your item choice. 136 Speed EVs lets Magnemite outspeed every unboosted Steel type possible with Choice Scarf and crawl past standard Xerneas and 252 Speed Mega-Scizor without one. 252 SpAtk EVs deals the most damage possible, and the remaining EVs is put into Hp to minimize incoming damage and live through a few attacks such as Xerneas's Moonblast after Geomancy and Stealth Rock. Choice Specs lets you 2HKO any Steel type on your mind and guarantee easier kills against problematic threats such as Xerneas or Primal Kyogre, but Choice Scarf can revenge kill anything under 120 Base Speed before they have a chance to respond. Magnet Pull allows you to assassinate virtually any Steel type you come across. If trapping Steel types is not as much of a concern as dealing high damage is, you could opt it out for Analytic to potentially receive a power buff on your attacks if you move last or the opponent switches.

I think he was realizing the fact that Simple doesn't double passed boosts.
Though Woobat is a devastating target for a Baton Pass.

woobat has both unaware and stored power

but it's still a pretty mediocre receiver compared to what else can receive, say, zeomancy xerneas passed a cotton guard and maybe some qds

I see no one mentioning my boy mime jr. Now, I'm not too familiar with this meta, but mime jr seems amazing, or at least very fun. With 40/50/90/140/180/120 base stats, it's still very frail on the physical side, but it's phenomenal specially. Add technician to give it whatever coverage it desires, a great typing, access to nasty plot, taunt, encore, healing wish, and you've got yourself a versatile sweeper that can also function amazingly as a support mon. Something that seems fun is encore sub pass, which can annoy stall pokemon like lugia by subbing, encore locking toxic, and then pass a sub. Or you can run just a taunt lead with nasty plot, psychic, and HP. It really is cool.

Holy crap remoraid. 70/130/70/130/70/130 screams mixed attacker. And it has the moveset for it too. Crazy amounts of coverage on both sides, and it can use hustle to give its physical moves a boost so it can invest more in SpA. Flamethrower, gunk shot, seed bomb, ice beam, and water spout. Jesus.

Psyduck seems like it has it's niche. 100/104/96/130/100/110 is a little slow, but it has pretty solid bulk. The best part is its ability, cloud nine, that allows it to get past desolate land and smack groudon with a powerful water type move. Plus it can switch in on a lava plume decently. Actually, sub calm mind with scald + psyshock seems amazing. It OHKO's primal groudon before any boosts, and with 2-3 calm minds it beats a lot of primal kyogre sets. Not to mention if scald burns, it becomes ungodly tanky.
