[SET]
name: Offensive Utility
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Meteor Mash
move 3: Toxic
move 4: Bullet Punch
item: Eviolite
ability: Clear Body
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 HP / 176 Atk / 80 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

One glance at Metang's stats might suggest that it is suited to act as a defensive wall, but underestimate offensive Metang at your own risk, as it hits many of the offensive threats in the tier hard. Courtesy of its great bulk, Metang can also check physical and special attackers alike, namely Primeape, Scolipede, Jynx, and Musharna. Unfortunately, Metang still cannot beat common leads such as Piloswine and Golem one-on-one, but it can survive an Earthquake from them, allowing it to make a move before it dies. Stealth Rock is a handy move on Metang, chipping off health from Pokemon such as Charizard and Rotom-S, to whom Metang can do little otherwise. Meteor Mash is a strong STAB move, 2HKOing Serperior, Primeape, and Scolipede. Toxic is essential for Metang to cripple Tangela and Alomomola, while also allowing it to beat Musharna without gambling on Meteor Mash Attack boosts. Bullet Punch might seem odd as it limits Metang's coverage, but is incredibly useful, knocking out Jynx after Stealth Rock damage, while also picking off other frail threats such as Primeape, Haunter, and weakened Scolipede.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

176 Attack EVs allow Metang to break +1 Defense Braviary's Substitute; adding more doesn't help it net any notable KOs. 80 Special Defense EVs make it easier for Metang to sponge special hits from Haunter and Jynx. Even though both of Metang's abilities give little benefit, Clear Body is the better option, as it prevents unexpected stat drops from Shadow Ball or Psychic.

As far as partners go, Ludicolo is a great teammate as it can beat the Fire- and Ground-types that Metang despises; it also handles certain Water-types such as Alomomola, Seismitoad, and special Samurott well. Misdreavus is also a good teammate, as it is immune to Ground-type attacks and can threaten Golem, Armaldo, Piloswine, and other common leads with Will-O-Wisp or Taunt. Anything that can take on strong Fire-types helps, thus making Carracosta and Seismitoad effective partners for Metang, though they should be wary of Hidden Power Grass that the Fire-types might carry. Pokemon who find Normal- and Flying-types troublesome generally appreciate Metang's presence; Serperior and Primeape are the most noteworthy of these. Alomomola can pass big Wishes to Metang while resisting Fire-type attacks aimed at it. Psych Up allows Metang to copy stat boosts from SubBU Braviary effectively. Pursuit can be used on the slot over Bullet Punch to catch Haunter, Jynx, and Kadabra as they attempt to switch, but doesn't serve much use otherwise because it's pathetically weak against other Pokemon. Earthquake enables Metang to hit the likes of Samurott and Skuntank harder, but Metang shouldn't stay in on Samurott anyway and Skuntank does not survive constant Meteor Mashes either.

[Set Comments]
 • Unlike the defensive set, this set has decent offensive presence while still retaining good bulk.
 • Can check non-EQ Kangaskhan, Musharna, Serperior, and Regirock more easily than the defensive spread due to its better offensive presence.
 • Can break the Substitute of Samurott and Braviary with Earthquake and Meteor Mash, respectively.
 • Still loses to other common leads like Golurk, Golem, and Piloswine, though not OHKOed by Earthquake on the first turn. Choice Band Golurk does OHKO it though, so be cautious when facing one.
 • Stealth Rock provides utility for Metang's teammates, and thanks to its good bulk, it still finds many opportunities to set them up.
 • Meteor Mash provides Metang with a relatively strong STAB that allows it to hurt Pokemon like Primeape, Serperior, and Scolipede hard.
 • Bullet Punch is incredibly useful for taking down Jynx; however, it is not OHKOed unless Stealth Rock is on the field. It also dents a bunch of frail threats like Scolipede, Primeape, and Haunter before they make a move.
 • Toxic is essential as it helps Metang cripple Alomomola and Tangela. It also helps Metang beat Musharna much more efficiently without relying on Meteor Mash boosts.

[Additional Comments]
 • Metang doesn't need anymore than 176 Atk EVs because it doesn't net any notable KOs if maxed out. 80 SpD EVs are to take Special hits from the likes of Jynx and Haunter more easily.
 • Both of Metang's abilities are situational; but Clear Body is much more convinient, as it allows it to take on random stat dropping moves or Pokemon with the ability Intimidate.
 • Your team should not be based around Metang, but Pokemon that can beat Water-, Fire-, and Ground- types help. Ludicolo is a great partner for Metang, as not only does it beat those types, but it shares good synergy with Metang.
 • Misdreavus is a good partner for Metang because it can take on most Ground types being aimed at Metang, and cripple the Pokemon with Will-o-Wisp or Taunt.
 • Anything that can take on strong Fire types like Charizard help; so Pokemon like Seismitoad or Carracosta are good partners, though they should watch out for Hidden Power Grass.
 • Pokemon that have trouble against Flying- and Normal- types in general really appreciate Metang's presence. Pokemon like Serperior and Primeape are excellent teammates for that reason.
 • Psych Up may be used in the last slot to gain boosts from Substitute + Bulk Up Braviary.
 • Zen Headbutt hits Sawk and Scolipede harder than Meteor Mash.
 • Earthquake allows it to hit Electric- and Poison-types much harder.

Note that you miss out on more things with Meteor Mash + Earthquake compared with Meteor Mash + Zen Headbutt since Steels outside of Metang itself are very scarce in NU, and other typing combinations are either not present in NU (Crawdaunt, Slowbro/-king, Starmie), or are not present in the game as of Gen V. Oh wait, Slowpoke, but that's even worse than Emolga.

That being said, it does not hurt to slash in Zen Headbutt alongside Earthquake in the third slot, even moreso as it allows Metang to OHKO Primeape as well as Scolipede (and if it does survive, pick it off with Bullet Punch).

Thank you for pointing that out, Aasgier.

I still find Earthquake more superior because Metang can't beat the likes of Chariard anyway, and Zen Heabutt isn't gonna do much to Mantine, Rotom-S, and Pelipper. The only Pokemon it can beat is Swanna, which isn't all too relevant because it isn't used that much. Earthquake still has the better use overall imo, though I may consider rewriting certain parts of the analysis to cover Zen Headbutt's usefulness.

You should mention Psych Up in AC so that Metang will be able to boost alongside BU Braviary who would otherwise be able keep boosting up until it can overwhelm Metang due to the lack of defensive investment.

no need to mention the EVs.

I'd also like a few more teammates, I like this metang on offensive teams because of how great a pivot it is. It's a great initial switch-in to kanga to sponge fake outs. Anyways this is a great set and I'm surprised it isn't on site already

[qc]1/3[/qc]

@Qwilphish

I am not too sure about that one, as it is really situational, but I added it for the time being.

@Raseri

Thanks for the check! I'm going to add more teammates ASAP. Maybe two more will suffice?

Metang is a good Pokemon and this is the best set.

[SET]
 • Toxic should be move 3 and Bullet Punch should be move 4. Move 4 used to be random filler options for Metang, but now that Jynx is in the tier Bullet Punch is extremely useful for getting rid of the lady. Earthquake isn't really needed at all on Metang outside of some trivial things, but you can add it to AC instead.

 • A better EV spread is 252 HP / 176 Atk / 80 SpD with Adamant. 176 Atk with Adamant hits an Attack jump point and gets all the damage that Metang needs to dish out. Metang doesn't miss any KOes or important damage variations doing so either, such as 176 Atk's Meteor Mash still breaking SubBU's Substitute even after a Bulk Up. 80 SpD alongside Eviolite gives it more Special Defense for being able to switch into Life Orb Jynx, Haunter, and other special attackers much more easily.

[SET COMMENTS]
 • Remove the EQ line from there since it's no longer a main move.

 • Put more emphasis on how good Toxic is on Metang. Not only does it cripple Alomomola and Tangela, but it also allows Metang to actually beat Musharna. Metang cannot do so without Toxic.

[Additional Comments]
 • Put more emphasis on Psych Up being good on Metang. Since Metang's last slot is mainly filler Psych Up can be huge for allowing Metang to beat SubBU Braviary without having to resort to Meteor Mash and Toxic prediction.

Implement this and I'll come back later to stamp it. Oh and do Raseri's stuff too.

Add Serperior to the list of Pokemon in Set Comments that are hit hard by Meteor Mash. (Serp is 2HKOed)

Mention that Jynx is OHKOed by Bullet Punch after Stealth Rock

If you want to keep the part of Psych Up on CM Musharna, be specific on that Psyching Up the Calm Mind boosts lets you take the least amount of damage from Signal Beam while you Toxic stall it.

Looks fine to me now.

[qc]2/3[/qc]

In the first sentence of AC, I think you should be more clear on what KOs the EV spread gains. It's for breaking Braviary's Sub, right? I think that should be noted right before mentioning more EVs don't achieve any more KOs.

[SET COMMENTS]
 • When you talk about Metang's power with Meteor Mash mention that it breaks SubBU Braviary's Substitute even after it Bulk Ups once. Mention that it 2HKOes Serperior, Primeape, and Scolipede.

 • Scolipede is not frail at all. I would change the word frail to weakened for this.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • 176 Atk EVs with Adamant hits an Attack jump point while also breaking Braviary's Substitute even after a Bulk Up. Start off the first sentence of the AC with something similar to that and then mention that adding more Atk EVs don't help get any important KOes.

 • Mention that Ludicolo can also check the Water-type Pokemon that beat Metang like Samurott and Alomomola.

 • Add Alomomola as a good partner for taking Fire-type attacks as it can also provide Wish support and heal up Metang so it can check and counter what it needs to more effectively.

This is it for now. Another QC member will look over this after you implement those and see if they can fix anything else.

Only problem here is the choice of using the word "like" over "such as". The reason for this is because "like" is ill-suited for proper analyses and is generally informal and childish. Also, there only needs to be one line separating the set from the set comments. Likewise, there shouldn't be a space between the words and the
tags.

Same thing as above, although there was a bit more of choppy wording here. Great job otherwise.
