Flavor Match on a Sinking Ship: Glacier Knight vs Objection

It was almost midnight aboard the RMS Titanic. The decks had long since vacated, bar a single man standing in the open air. He was an ice-specialist, and the North Atlantic cold had little impact on him. Indeed, he was more interested in an object out at sea, and was straining his eyes to get a glimpse of it. One of his Pokemon had alerted him of its approach, and he was eager to get a glimpse of the iceburg. It had been a long time since he had seen a glacier- he had been in England for most of the winter- and he was glad to finally be approaching an aspect of his element.

Below the decks, a British native was walking the halls, unable to get to sleep. It had been a long time since he'd had a good battle, but he'd heard that a number of Americans had solid teams. Rumor had it, even the League President lived across the pond, fairly close to the destination of the ship. Perhaps he'd get a real fight, beyond the mostly retired drunkard and the psychic-focused academic that lived in his home country.

(e.g. Aerial Ace goes from 6 to 9, Mach Punch goes from 4 to 6, etc.) The Energy Cost for a one-hit or two-hit attack is increased by one (1). Arena notes:

The deck of the Titanic is huge, and has elements for basically any attack. Additionally, the trainers could rush off to either the area below the decks, or over the sea if they wish. There are no real arena descriptions, although the night could have some impact upon the battle. You should be intelligent enough to figure out the rest.

The world is silent. Cold air floating from the Atlantic gently wafts its way over the ship's bow, and I shiver with pleasure. I'm not overly fond of the Ocean, but its constant cold brushes keep me satisfied. I look up fondly for a moment, gazing at the sky. As with the water below, I'm not obsessed with the freedom and splendor of above. But tonight, oh tonight its amazing! Soft lights dance in their places, twinkling magnificently. I can't locate the moon, and seeing as theres not a single cloud in the heavens I will assume its a New Moon tonight. Thats fine though, that leaves the stars to shine brighter.

I give the sky a small smile as a farewell, and then gaze dreamily at the horizon. Sigh, this is why i came out tonight. Seeing as its that season, i'm not surprised at all the specimens. Most are modest in size, and as the ship slowly trudges forward I watch them pass by. Is it odd i almost have the urge to wave as they leave my sight? Surely not, it is afterall my profession to study the ice formations. I'm sure a dedicated Geologist would do the same if he discovered a secret treasure trove of blood rubies.

Oh! There she is! oh quick where's my telescope.... Ah! Look at her! She's gorgeous, indeed! The biggest Iceberg of them all, just relaxing in the distance. Oh, i've never seen such a specimen, what curves! what arches! How many cycles of seasons has she been through to get to that size, oh fufufu.... If only i could get closer!

Well... she is somewhat far away, but Norita is in my belt...

Huh? What is this? I turn and see a stranger.. what ho! what do you think you're doing up this late? Me, well i'm a scientist of course. What is it you could want... a battle?

I turn back to my precious, gaze longingly. I could swim out there...Norita....

"Bah! Fine then. It doesn't matter who you might be. You've disturbed my research. For that, En Garde!"

Well I haven't had any clients for weeks. A pokemon battle should break the monotony. And on a cruise ship, no less.

112.png

Clayton @ Rawst Berry

Now, if I recall correctly, Simisear does not like rock- or ground-type moves. Unfortunately, Clayton's rock-type moves are inaccurate, so it looks like we will be relying on his mastery of the earth.

The ship apparently has suitable elements for all attacks to be usable, so you can begin by slamming into the floor and causing violent tremors. Follow up by whirring your drill-like horn and ramming it into the opponent, and then finish up by rocking the boat some more. If, however, our opponent attempts to use the light of the sun (or the moon) against you, disrupt it by shooting several rocks at him. And if he should attempt to put you to sleep, then protect yourself if you can.

Raw: Earthquake - Drill Run - Earthquake
If he uses SolarBeam, change that action to Rock Blast and push actions back.
If he uses Yawn and you are not taunted and you did not use Protect on the previous action, change that action to Protect and push actions back.

GlacierKnight1-2.png

Did I hear correctly? Earthquake? Good heavens, we're on a ship for Christ's sake! I now wonder if I should question the sanity of this man. Alone, skulking around the ship at Midnight, eager for a battle... Am I the target of a madman? My blood feels coagulated... I think of all the residents of the ship. There are Children down below us, and he wants to shake this freight into hysterics all for the sake of a battle? Something is not right here....

I could always flee...Norita...The Glacier....

No. I cannot. I realize now this was meant to happen. I was to meet this Madman because I must stop him before he can wreck havoc on the slumbering guests! Who knows what he was trying to do before we caught glances... the sick bastard...

"Fernando! Stop that Beast from shaking the ship! There are more lives in danger from that attack than just yours!"

514.png
Bag_Focus_Band_Sprite.png

Now Fernando, you have to use your speed and agility to avoid this colossal monster. See that Focus Band? Well its gonna help you out, even if you aren't 50% below your full health. Untie it, so you have a single long piece of band. Then quickly, before Clayton can release his blasted Earthquake, launch yourself into the air with your Acrobatics! See those metal wires in the air? They are decorated with colorful panels, because this is the Titanic, the most grand ship in all the oceans. Using your untied focus band, hang onto the nearest wire! Hang onto the wire with the band like a zip-line, and as you zip past Rhydon, you'll avoid the Earthquake (Hold tight though, the tremors will probably shake the wires a little bit)!

For your next action, you'll zip down your makeshift zip-line, right past Rhydon! That's when you'll release, right behind the brute! Rhydons aren't the smartest pokemon, if i recall correctly. Smarter than their previous evolution, but still very.....forgetful. He won't see you coming as you smash your Fire Punch into his Temples! Rhydons have a hidden, fleshy section between their two gill-like features on the sides of their faces. Get Clayton right there, at that will cause sparks to fly within his tiny skull! Focus the attack for flinching, confusion, or stunning him.

Finally, seeing as you're right in the thicket with the beast, send him to the floor with a Low Kick! Make sure he doesn't come up either, and that way he can't send the ship shaking again!

Commands: Action One- use Acrobatics to get high in the air and reach a wire, and use the focus band as a zipline to avoid the Earthquake (if the use of Focus Band as i wish to use it will not work, or is illegal, then Simisear will just use acrobatics to get to the wire above and grab it, hanging onas the Earthquake occurs)

Action Two- Send a Fire Punch into Rhydon's temples, causing him either to Flinch or be stunned.

Action Three- use a Low Kick to knock Rhydon down on the deck, so that he cannot get up and use his attack.

If you are confused as to what i mean by wires, take a gander at this picture (or any picture of a big ship)

Please ignore the underwater ice godzilla.

Rule #1: No referencing the movie (What movie?)

Seeing the will of his opponent to battle, Glacier drops a Pokeball and unleashes a Simisear. A flaming monkey appears by his side, casting a light glow over the arena and setting things up for a battle of speed and techincal attacking on board the decks. After all, any sane trainer wouldn't want to unleash enough power to wake up the passengers. Of course, hanging around some of the British trainers isn't particularly good for one's sanity, and the Englishman didn't seem particularly willing to play in the groove set by another.

So he sent out a Rhydon.

As the beast appeared on deck, he dwarfed all others standing on it even as he was himself dwarfed by the immense size of the boat they were standing on. The challenger stared across the field at his opponent, running through his options. While he could probably win by landing just a few tremendous hits, that would be what his opponent was expecting. And that's a sure way to set oneself up for failure. So, he did the one thing that no sane trainer would ever do: a move devoted entirely to winning at any cost.

"Earthquake."

The deck began to rattle under the tremendous pressure as the entire ship began to groan a little bit. Bolts and shrapnel flew up into the air, creating a swarm of debris and steel as the ship vibrated in place. Glacier was completely caught off guard, and barely managed to motion upwards in time. Thankfully, Fernando was very well trained in terms of instinct and managed to grap onto a pole, climbing up it and onto a wire over the ship right before the vibrations struck, rocking the monkey with incredible force as it barely held onto the wire, flipping over it multiple times due to the intensity of the waves.

As the shaking died down, Glacier simply mouthed the word 'attack.' Simisear managed to see this, even from its height, and leapt down behind Rhydon, jumping onto its back and stabbing its fists into a vulnerable point on the back of the head, causing the beast to roar in pain as it thrashed from side to side, slamming his spinning drill into the floor once or twice and even piercing a hole into the floor as it desperately tried to ease the pain.

By this point, the challenger was mentally cursing, annoyed that he was being played around so easily by simple evasive tactics. Indeed, he thought it was time for a rather large change. A change that another Englishman would be forced to put on shades and call "Earth shaking. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH."

"Shake him off with another Earthquake!"

One would figure that at some point in the entire course of battling, a trainer would figure out how to order an attack without signalling this for the entire world to hear. This day has not yet arrived. As such, the opposing trainer was able to quickly shout out "Low Kick" at a volume caused by urgency and panic. The tiny monkey slid down the back of the dinosaur-rhino, and tripped it up with a quick dash below that ended in a loud "thud" behind it and a small dent in the floor. Enraged, Clayton slammed his fists into the deck and roared, causing an even larger quake to overtake the ship that he had already dented, with a noticeable groan coming from below deck as passengers were heard scurrying around in the immediate area below him. The force of the vibration was enough to knock both trainer's to the ground, and Fernando took it even harder as steel and rock hammered into his body during the quake.

When the attack finally died down, both sides finally stood back up to continue. That is, until one trainer's eyes went wide and the other turned around to see a large, white object rapidly approaching the ship, until it began to scrape past with a horrible screeching noise.

Simisear: Acrobatics: 7 energy, jumped high onto the wires above for protection against seismic attacks
Rhydon: Earthquake: 6 energy, 7 energy penalty to Simisear due to vibrations on the wire
Simisear: Fire Punch: 5 energy, 10 damage flat, flinch on Rhydon
Rhydon flinched!
Simisear: Low Kick Rhydon: [(10-1.5)*1.5] 12.75 damage, 7 energy
Rhydon: Earthquake: [(20+3+4.5)*1.5] 26.25 damage, 6 energy (4334 no crit)

Arena: A large iceburg is slowly scraping past the ship, opening up a new area for battle. The deck may not be able to take much more abuse between the impact and the last two quakes, but one could always try. Large dents and small holes cover the deck, and debris are scattered everywhere. The arena is noticeably colder at the moment. As always, the lower decks may be accessed although quite a few people are stirring below the impact of the second Earthquake.

God! Dear God! He did it. The fucking beast actually Earthquaked the ship! I hear the screams begin from behind that wreched man. Is that an alarm too? Oh god- what if the engine is busted? or something important is broke. All because of a battle! For christ sakes, a bloody Battle. I'm not even fucking british and i'm using bloody because its so damn unbelievable.

Who is this guy. Who is he. Who does he think he is, tearing this ship to pieces just to beat me? I knew it, a Madman. And some good I did to stop him. I need to get rid of that beast, before it can do any more harm. Quick, where's Noritas ultraball...

Shes here. In the daze and stupor of the battle I didn't see her approach. Gliding silkly towards the Titanic, with the grace of a dancer... The Iceberg. I feel the power radiating from her, the frost, so palpable that my fingers are nipped with ice. Shes here! I didn't have to come to her, she decided I struck her fancy...

I just have to leap. She's right there. Climb aboard, and feel the rush of a lifetime...

No! I can't, oh i want to but i can't! This monster, if left to its own disposal, could end the lives of all these people! The captain...The crew...The guests...The Children...

"You deranged bastard! Stop this now! You force me to take action into my own hands! Fernando return.... Ponce De Leon, blow this foe away!"

First, I want you to quickly mimic his ability to boost his attacks in the sun, just in case he decides to try anything funny with that. Then conjure up a blizzard and blow it in his face. See if you can make the wind from it strong enough to blow him onto the iceberg. I doubt a creature of that kind would like the ice from the iceberg too much. Once he's there, sharply intensify the gravity around him to cause him to crash into the iceberg, and send more of the chilling wind and snow his way. But if he should try to protect himself from one of your blizzard attacks, take the opportunity to increase your speed. And if he should try anything crafty with leech seeds, bounce them away with your magic coat.

Raw: (Trace Solar Power) Blizzard to push Tropius to just above the iceberg - Gravity to make Tropius crash into the iceberg - Blizzard
If he uses Protect when you are using Blizzard and he did not use Protect on the previous action, change that action to Agility and push actions back.
If he uses Leech Seed, change that action to Magic Coat and push actions back.

I give a sigh as my plan works, and the Hulking beast is replaced by a smaller, less destructive pokemon. Though i shouldn't say less destructive, after all, all of this mystical beasts have enough power to wreck a ship the size of 4 Titanics. But, this match-up isn't very favorable. But i still have time. Leon will have to stomach it for at least another round, maybe more...

What? He wants to Blizzard Leon onto my prized Iceberg (and yes, I shall claim it as mine. Mine and forever mine to study)? Hah! My Tropius trumps that tiny cybermon in size. Theres no way it can rummage up enough power to blow my leafy friend away! He is simply too big, much bigger than the Porygon2.

Gravity too? Good lord... he might actually make the ship sink! Thats gravity afterall...

"Sir, I will ask you at once to leave this boat and my Iceberg alone! There are many lives at stake due to your insanity..."

De Leon, play defensive for now! This enemy uses frost, and that's not a good thing for you! The first blizzard won't knock you down, i'm sure of it. Hunker down and Protect, staying low to the floor! You're a big dinosaur plant afterall, that little thing can't blow you away! Next, He's going to make the gravity really heavy. Which works great becuase that means you'll stay on the ship! There's no way he can blow you onto the Iceberg now! So whip up a mighty Whirlwind, so that after this round you can face another opponent! Then, whip up a huge Gust of wind! Use your huge wings to create a much bigger gust than Porygon2's Teeny Blizzard! The gust should switch the path of the blizzard, so you barely get scathed! then take a break, as we find out who your next opponent is!

Commands: Action One- Using Protect, get down low to the deck floor, so that the blizzard does not blow you away! (Tropius is size class 4, while the blizzard is being generated by a much smaller pokemon, size class 1. Also, its protect.)

Action Two- Whip up a Whirlwind to send Porygon2 back into its pokeball at the end of the round. And send it crashing into the wall or something.

Action Three- Create a huge Gust of wind to break up/re-direct the Blizzard (Once again, the gust is being created by very large pokemon, while the blizzard is being created by a much smaller pokemon. Therefore, the gust should be big enough to do something to mess up the blizzard)

Round Two:

While the fractures continue to spread given the immense pressure upon the ship, Glacier reaches for a Pokeball upon his belt. He knows that he can't risk the Rhydon staying out any longer and the situation requires him to force it out, one way or another. "Simisear, return. Tropius, let's finish this monster off before it can hurt someone."

In a large blast of light an enormous reptille with fruit hanging from its neck and long, leafy wings appears on deck and glares down the other reptilian monster in front of it with a short roar. The other trainer says nothing, and switches out his rock-type for a levitating mass that hovers slightly above the arena until it transforms into the shape of a duck, before glowing and adjusting its own programming.

"Start off with a heavy hit: Blizzard."

"Quick, protect yourself!"

Upon hearing these orders, Tropius instinctually raises a barrier of light around his body and ducks low to the ground in a desperate attempt to stay on board the ship. The other trainer quickly reacts, and Porygon lets the air around it get a bit colder as it releases an uncharged version and quickly focuses on shifting its programming to allow it to move faster.

"Now continue."

"Blow it back!"

Before Tropius can even move a massive blast of icy wind races across the ship, rocking Tropius to the point of almost flying off and chilling his trainer to the bone. Of course, he actually liks it. Tropius most certainly does not, and barely escapes the attack with reasonable health and a low enough blood temperature that it can't help but slow down and get a little less angry. In fact, it yawns loudly before blasting off his own jet of winds that force MCP to go flying back towards its trainer. In a last ditch attempt to slow down, it intensifies the gravity in the area, leading to more and more fractures on the ship as it does slow down slightly and the deck begins to fall apart, with large segments of the lower rooms becoming exposed to the freezing air. Tropius sends one little flap of his wings towards the cyber-Pokemon, and its enough to send the duck back into his Pokeball, with a Kirlia appearing a few seconds later.

Objection's Kirlia has been sent out!

Porygon2 traced Solar Power! -6 En
Tropius: Protect: 7 energy
Porygon2: Agility: +2 speed
Porygon2: Blizzard: [(12+1.5+2)*2.25] 34.874 damage, 8 energy (247 hit, 4532 no freeze, 5269 no crit) I'm sorry, but a R4 Special Attack blowing back a WC4 Pokemon used to flying in winds and resisting it on orders from the trainer is a bit unlikely. However, cold wind blowing over a reptile used to tropical conditions will make it drowsy.
Tropius: Whirlwind: 6 energy, Porygon2 to be blown out
Porygon2: Gravity: 10 energy, Gravity intensified four rounds It did quite a bit of damage to the deck when combined with the previous quakes. Portions of it are now open and can be explored rather easily from the top of the ship.
Tropius: Gust: [(4+3+1.5)] 8.5 damage, 2 energy (9871 no crit)
Porygon2 forced out, Kirlia switched in! (6497 Kirlia)

Arena notes: The Iceburg is almost fully past the ship, but can be accessed. Additionally, a large hole leads into several rooms down beneath, and makes the battlefield a bit more expansive in that direction if you should choose to flee into the rubble. The Atlantic air is slightly colder than normal, and the ship has sustained heavy damage.
