Yesterday my buddy and I decided we should probably go see a movie to stay out of the heat of the day. Too our very unhappy surprise nothing really that good was on, and as someone who likes really well-shot, directed, and acted movies this was very upsetting. So we went to go see Bad Teacher, which albeit, was pretty funny, but I certainly wasn't thinking about Cameron Diaz's hot body the entire movie, one of the pre-movie trailers had me more interested than anything like that.

The movie was Bellflower. I've always had an affinity for independent movies, such as Wristcutters: A Love Story, and being the winner of the Sundance film festival makes me even more excited to see it. The movie is about two friends who spend time working on their imaginary gang, Mother Medusa, and build flamethrowers and other weapons awaiting the eventual Apocalypse. This changes when one of the friends snags himself a girlfriend, and eventually new friends entirely. After a rocky relationship however, the eventual separation from him and his girlfriend turns the main character, Woodrow, back into his best friend Aiden's arms. The two then take it upon themselves to live out their violent and unhappy fantasies.

From my experiences reading online it's gotten nothing but positive reviews from quite a lot of sites, including the Onion's AV Club, which is actually a pretty good source of what's good and what's not.

I haven't been this excited for a movie in a long time. The last movie I was more than willing to go to a theater for was The Dark Knight, which came out 3 (I think) years ago. Obviously this movie isn't going to appeal to everyone, it's not possible. The people who don't like movies such as Fight Club will see the whole anarchy the two are striving for and will probably be instantly turned off, though hopefully it's captivating to keep pretty much everyone enthralled with it. I'm going to be very disappointed if I hyped this up too much for myself, but still.

This looks great, though they probably won't show it in Australia. I'll try to watch it anyway. Thanks, Genny!

The keyword was "independent movie" so that means it probably won't show in the majority of theaters in the United States either.

That doesn't mean that I don't want to see it though, it seems great. (Going to have to check all of my indie movie sources)

Usually films that are winners at the Sundance film festival get shown across the nation in all major movie theaters. I wouldn't expect Bellflower to be any different. Though, yes, I'm sure that people outside the US will be a little sad that they won't be able to see it in the theaters (maybe??), there will be plenty of sources online where you can probably purchase it and/or watch it. So I wouldn't really worry about not being able to see it.
