Smoke Off the Water: Engineer Pikachu vs. AlphaJolt! (2 vs 2 Doubles)

Status
Not open for further replies.
Hi, what's up? I'm here at the Celadon City Smoke Factory, where...I actually can't see the battlefield very well, since it's covered in thick black smoke. Did you know that CCSE uses only the finest extract of Koffing in their smoke? It's also almost 20% unrecycled materials! Wait, is that really a good statistic? Anyway, the black smoke here is so thick that I...wait, there they are! I've just spotted today's two competitors, who for some odd reason agreed to battle here: Engineer Pikachu and AlphaJolt! They look like they're ready to fight, though I'm not sure how well they can see.

Here's a full-ish description of the arena we'll be using today.

Arena: Smoke Factory
This factory manufactures a strange substance: black smoke. This smog is present all over the arena, making it quite hard to see for Pokemon that don't have evolutionary traits that allow them to see; this results in a 15% (flat) reduction in accuracy for Pokemon that are unable to see, regardless of distance.

Here are the rules for the battle, courtesy of our two competitors:

And, most importantly, these are the Pokemon our two trainers will be using:

Jiheddo (Zweilous) (F)
Nature: Naughty (Attack increased by *, Special Defense decreased by *)

Type: Dragon / Dark
Dragon STAB; More in touch with legendary or special auras in arenas. Able to use Hyper Beam and Giga Impact without losing focus.

Dark STAB; Immunity to all telepathic and telekinetic attacks, better performance in all darkened and especially twilight conditions. Can use any Dark-type attack regardless of Attraction.

Haunter (Youma) (M)
Nature: Mild (Special Attack increased by *; Defense decreased by *)

Type: Ghost / Poison
Ghost STAB; brief intangibility that nullifies Normal and Fighting-type attacks. Can move through walls for a brief period of time but must remain in motion. Superior senses in low light and inside dark buildings. Have no vision reduction in hazes.

Poison STAB; immunity to Poison/Toxic, see and breath through smog/smokescreens/haze uninhibited. Able to use Wrap and Bind without losing focus. Superior senses in urban settings.

Fighting: Fighting STAB; ignore weight restrictions of throwing/grappling moves. Superior reaction time in close quarters.

Abilities:
Guts: (Innate) This Pokemon is tenacious and will work ever harder when under a status condition, raising the Base Attack Power of all its physical attacks by two (2). Pokemon with Guts ignore the attack drop from burn.
No Guard: (Innate) This Pokemon has an immense confidence from perfecting each of its attacks, giving them all perfect accuracy. Resultingly it feels it can weather every strike, and will not dodge an attack even if ordered to. Only when a OHKO move is issued by the opponent does sense return, and the Pokemon acts normally. Additionally even with their extra skill, the power and exhaustion involved in using OHKO moves prevents them from being benefitted by No Guard, they will have their normal accuracy.
Steadfast (DW): (Innate) If this Pokemon is flinched, it becomes aware of the speed difference and increases speed by one (1) stage to make up the difference. This speed boost is maintained at the end of each round.

Hades evolved into Haunter! Hades learned Shadow Punch!

Now onto the battle. Hades, use Shadow Ball on Youma. Then try to put Jiheddo to sleep with some Hypnosis use another Shadow Ball on Youma after that. Heracles, start off with a Payback against Youma. Next use a nice big Ice Punch against Jiheddo. Finish off with a Dynamicpunch against Jiheddo, but if he protects, Payback Youma again.

Oh dear.

Youma: Shadow Ball (Hades) - Disable (Hades' Shadow Ball) - Hypnosis (Heracles)
Shinwa (Jiheddo): Crunch (Hades) - Protect - Crunch (Hades)
The way the sub is phrased, it only applies to the third action, so... :D

Round 1 Begin!

The factory churns out even more smoke in anticipation of the ensuing battle, but none of the Pokemon really have any difficulty seeing here...Anyway, Youma starts things off with a Shadow Ball on his counterpart, Hades. The attack leaves Hades reeling, but he uses the same attack- right back at Youma! This attack was a little better aimed, however, and it scores a critical hit. Jiheddo does not take kindly to this assault on her partner, and she uses a Crunch on Hades. The God of the Underworld takes a truckload from this attack, but his partner Heracles is ready with a revenge attack. He wants payback for the damage done to his partner, and that's exactly what he gets- by ramming his darkness-infused fist into Youma's face!

The second action has most of the Pokemon on the defensive. Fearing the worst, Jiheddo Protects herself. This completely ruins Hades's srtategy of trying to Hypnotize the dragon. While Jiheddo laughs at Hades from behind her protective forcefield, Youma takes a peek into Hades's mind. After flipping through several yearbooks, a mental copy of Hades's journal, and a collection of pictures of Persephone, he finally finds what he's looking for: Shadow Ball. With a flick of his wrist, the attack is Disabled! Heracles is strong; Youma can still feel the impact of that Payback last action. But strong and smart don't equate, especially in Pokemon, which explains why Heracles still attempts to Ice Punch Jiheddo through his Protective forcefield.

Youma's back from his trip to Hades's mind, and he's ready to do some one-upping. To prove his Hypnosis is better, he tries to Hypnotize Heracles. Again, that lower intelligence rears its ugly head, and Heracles quickly falls into a deep sleep. Hades looks a little ticked, so he tries for a Shadow Ball. Unfortunately, he can't remember how to use this particular attack at the moment. Curse that Youma and his tricky tricks of trickery! Jiheddo is still laughing from last action, but she does take time out of her busy schedule to Crunch Hades some more. Heracles appears to be having some dream about punching Jiheddo dynamically, but some dreams just don't come true...

That was probably the most damage I've ever seen done in a first round. (Cool, easy RC!) Engineer Pikachu, engineer another set of actions!

Heh, good job team. (You seem to have forgotten that start-of-battle evolution takes 20 En, but that's irrelevant)

Youma: Hypnosis (Hades) - Confuse Ray (Heracles) - Hypnosis (Heracles)
IF (Hades attempts to Hypnosis on Action 1) THEN (Replace Action 1 with Shadow Ball (Hades))
IF (Hades is not KO'ed at the end of Action 1) THEN (Replace Action 2 with Shadow Ball (Hades))
Zweilous: Crunch (Hades) - Protect (Youma) - Earth Power (Heracles)
IF (Heracles attempts to use DynamicPunch on you while awake at any point) THEN (Insert a Protect (Self) into the queue)
IF (Hades is not KO'ed when it's your turn on Action 2) THEN (Replace Action 3 with Crunch (Hades))

For Zweilous, the KO Substitution has lower priority than the Attack Substitution.

Hades: Dark Pulse Youma, Dark Pulse Youma/, Dark Pulse Youma OR Confuse Ray Jiheddo if Youma is dead
Heracles: Payback Youma, Bullet Punch Youma, DynamicPunch Jiheddo
That's quite the amount of substitute attacks you're using lol.

Round 2 Begin!

Youma opens this round by attempting to Hypnotize Hades. The attack nearly succeeds, but Hades summons some spirits of the dead to intercept the attack and allow him to remain awake. Some of those spirits then gather between his ghostly hands; within seconds, he launches a Dark Pulse straight at Youma. Youma is nearly running on empty at this point, but he manages to keep himself Levitating. Jiheddo's two heads have somehow been agreeing for this entire match; they decide to keep their streak up by simultaneously Crunching Hades. Hades feels lightheaded after that powerful attack, and he begins to sway dangerously from side to side. Soon his helmet of darkness slips off his head, and he drops to the floor in a shadowy pile. Some small text appears in front of the battlers, bearing only two words: "Hades fainted!" Heracles is completely oblivious to this scene, though, as he's still snoozing.

Before anyone has time to react, however, Heracles snaps awake. After pulling a silver bullet out of his pocket, he punches the tiny object and sends it flying forward with blistering speed. The impact pierces Youma to his core, reducing his health to 2. He doesn't like being damaged, though, so he quickly fires a ray of confusion at Heracles. Heracles looks slightly confused, which is better than I would have expected. Jiheddo's heads concentrate and generate a Protect around Youma, but no one else still has to attack this action. What a waste of energy...

Jiheddo tries a second Protect, this time for his own safety, but his heads can't concentrate that much, causing the move to fail. Youma, seeking to preserve what little health he has left, Hypnotizes Heracles again. The strongman falls asleep, but he's not as tired as he was last time. His sleep would have been intense, but it ends up just being deep. Heracles enjoys more time in Dream Land as the round ends.

I'm not sure why Hypnosis failed. afaik there's no Sleep Clause, and Hypnosis has 100 accuracy due to No Guard... (i'm probably missing something obvious)

EDIT: Or make a new post 9.9
EDIT: Carry on.

I'll edit in my actions as soon as I figure out why Hypnosis failed.

No Guard's ability description doesn't say it applies to all Pokemon in a multi-battle. I know it works that way in-game, but I'm not sure if that's how it works here.

Good work Hades, get some rest. Ok Heracles, this is up to you now so give it your all! Start off with a Bullet Punch against Youma. If Jiheddo attempts to Protect him, use DynamicPunch on him instead, it will force either massive damage or a KO. For your second attack, if Youma is still alive, Bullet Punch him, but if he's dead, go for a DynamicPunch on Jiheddo. Finish the round with an Ice Punch on Jiheddo.

OK, we got this. AJ seems to have missed that Heracles is still asleep for one action :p (also shouldn't Heracles still be confused since iirc confusion counters don't go down while you're asleep)

Since Protecting a teammate is +0 priority... let's try and raise it to +1, shall we?
Youma: Sludge Bomb - Shadow Ball - Hypnosis
Jiheddo: Move to Youma - Protect Youma - DragonBreath
IF (Moving to Youma would not raise the Priority of Protect from +0 to +1 (which I sincerely hope is not the case)) THEN (Use the following set of actions:)
Youma: Shadow Ball - Sucker Punch - Shadow Ball
Jiheddo: DragonBreath - Earth Power - DragonBreath

I asked about Protect in the Referee Training Grounds. I'll start reffing once I receive an answer there. (Man, you guys are fast!)

Round 3 Begin!

Heracles remains asleep as the round begins, making him a prime target for a direct assault by Youma. Gathering and condensing some of the surrounding smog, Youma launches a Sludge Bomb directly at Heracles. Though he's asleep, the Machoke's expression still changes to one of pain. Jiheddo decides not to attack, instead opting to run up to Youma. This seems like a rather interesting move...

...until the next action, where Heracles snaps awake and Bullet Punches Youma. Jiheddo happens to be close enough to Youma to Protect him, even from this increased-priority assault. This buys Youma enough time to launch a Shadow Ball at Heracles. He really can't catch a break, can he?

Let me answer that question: no. Youma does not want Heracles doing anything, so he uses another Hypnosis. Heracles is beginning to resist being put to sleep, so this one is light. Jiheddo finishes the round by blasting Heracles with his breath. He gets STAB on this attack due to his Dragon typing, and he even gets a lucky paralysis. What a terrible round for Heracles...

This is far from over...

Zweilous, since you're still close to Youma, it should be a simple matter of Protecting now.

Youma, start with a Sludge Bomb, then a Shadow Ball and Sludge Bomb.
At any point, IF (Zweilous is using Protect on you) AND (It is not Action 1) THEN (Replace your action with Explosion)

Zweilous, DragonBreath it. Follow it up with an Earth Power and DragonBreath. If Heracles targets Youma with a Bullet Punch, quickly swap to a priority Protect. Just don't do it on consecutive actions, even if it means losing Youma.

The bullet rebounds and flies off harmlessly into a wall. Now it's Youma's turn to play. Charging some smoke in his fist, he hurls a bomb at Heracles. Heracles stands, watching intently, expecting his rippling muscles to lessen the impact. Still, the ensuing eruption of sludge takes the Machoke by surprise, even scoring a critical hit.

Youma doesn't get a chance to relax, however, as Heracles immediately responds with a second Bullet Punch. The attack easily does enough damage to Youma to result in a KO, though the smoke does make it difficult to locate Youma's fallen body. Jiheddo looks really ticked off, so he somehow calls upon the earth's power to deliver an attack to Heracles. The attack not only inflicts some serious damage; it also lowers Heracles's Special Defense!

Jiheddo follows that up with a little more breathing from his dragon body. The Special Defense drop bolsters the otherwise pathetic damage output, putting Heracles's health in the red. Heracles then does something no other Pokemon in this match has managed to do: damage Jiheddo! Swinging his fist wildly, he delivers a crushing blow to Jiheddo's chest, confusing Jiheddo's two heads in the process.

Looks like EP was right; this match is going to last a little longer...

Dangit, 25 and 13 are the worst numbers possible for me, especially since AJ ninja'ed before I could activate the ability.

IF you follow 0 energy -> struggle THEN
Bite until it works - Tackle until it works

IF you follow 0 energy -> faint THEN
Bite until it works - chill - Bite until it works

Round 5 Begin!

The confusion Heracles inflicted upon Jiheddo has caused the two heads to begin quarreling for the first time this match. The argument gets so bad that the heads actually hurt each other in confusion. Heracles looks on, amused, then decides to shake things up further with another Dynamicpunch. The attack connects effortlessly with Jiheddo, doing even more damage than the heads did to themselves.

Jiheddo still can't get a grip on himself, leading to another instance of hurting himself in confusion. The self-inflicted injury actually consumes enough energy that Jiheddo faints from energy loss. Heracles doesn't fully realize what has happened until the smoke clears and a message is spelled out on the floor in white tile: AlphaJolt wins!

eh, GG. This is probably one of the best battles that I've fought in. The only issue I might possible have had was that evil start-of-battle evolution, but, eh.

thanks for reffing
