Late Night Wi-Fi WarStory: Tricky(Fate) vs. Kou(Raikou)

Was bored, so decided to have my first smogon match. Not really sure what to expect, so I picked 6 pokemon out of my collection that seemed good and worked well and went off to the battle-me thread for a fight.

I choose not to include LeftOvers or Leech Seed Recovery and choose to record the signicant amounts of health differences.
I also probably missed 1-2 pokes that did have leftovers, but not mentioning it.
I also neglected Stealth Rock damage. Since with Leftovers + SR its hard estimating it with the eye, I just had the final Health % for the action of the atk or turn. % may be a little off, but its close enough to how the battle went.
Lets get this long fight started.

Rules:

Alrite now with the introductions out of the way, here's as accurate of a Turn-by-Turn recall as I can.

Turn 1:

Tricky sends in Swampert
Kou sends in Metagross

Not a bad start. I don't think Metagross wants to trade hits,
so looks like I get a free stealth rock setup this match.

Kou withdraws Metagross
Kou sent out Cresselia
Swampert used Stealth Rocks

I was right, and in comes annoying wall #4 Cresselia. Hate this thing more than blissey, alittle worried since I had trouble with this thing in the past.

Turn 2:

Cresselia used Thunder Wave
Swampert used Ice Beam(less damage than leftovers)

Good, I was right.
From previous fights, I know Cresselia usually packs T-Wave.
Thinking he will T-Wave my switch, I stay in to show my GUTS.
Looks like Fate didn't give me a freeze on Cresselia. The tides are neutral this match it seems.
By staying in and showing I won't fall for simple tricks like this. I display resolve!
think I will HydroPump to test Cresselia's sp.def..

Turn 3:

Kou withdraws Cresselia
Kou sent out Gallade(SR damage)
Swampert used Hydro Pump (Gallade 60%HP)

Didn't expect this switch. Maybe my resolve scared him.
HydroPump did less damage than I hoped on Gallade even if Swampet's sp.atk isn't that impressive,
but I guess Gallade isn't that soft after all.
Fearing a Leaf Blade and losing what I think is a valuable team-member, I switch.

Turn 4:

Fate withdraws Swampert
Fate sent out Tangrowth
Gallade used Hypnosis, it misses..

ouch. That's a close one. I assume he expected me to switch. Good call.

Turn 5:

Gallade used hypnosis, it misses..
Tangrowth used Sleep Powder, Gallade falls asleep.

Tangrowh is important on my team, and having it slept would really put me in a tight spot
But I felt it was a GUTS check. And it paid off.
Hypnosis missed again, and my Sleep Powder came down from the heavens to send Gallade into a slight somber.

Now what to do. I could leech seed or knock-off. I don't think I be able to kill it with PowerWhip.

I choose Knock-Off since hitting items off always helps.

Turn 6:

Kou withdraws Gallade
Kou sent in Cresselia(SR damage)
Tangrowth used Knock-Off, Leftovers get knocked off

Gallade switches, in Cressela, Tangrowth Knock-Off, Leftovers gone.
Not Bad. Leftovers knocked-off will only help me. But I fear the IceBeam.

Turn 7:

Fate withdraws Tangrowth
Fate sent in Magnezone
Cresselia used Ice Beam(Magnezone 95%)(Leftovers)

whew, my Magnezone wasn't frozen. Hopefully this isn't a Calm Mind one, then I be able to kill it eventually..
Wonder if there's a ground or electrive on the horizon, better set up a doll.

Turn 8:

Kou withdraws Cresselia
Kou sent in Blissey(SR damage)(Leftovers)
Magnezone used Substitute(80%)(Leftovers)

ARGH! Two special walls? This is going to be a long fight.

Turn 9:

Magnezone used ChargeBeam(sp.atk up)(Blissey 95%)
Blissey used Seismic Toss, Sub breaks

I won't switch and fall into your pace Blissey!

Turn 10:

Magnezone used Sub.(65%)
Magnezone Sub.(65%), Blissey Toss, sub breaks.

I didn't expect my Magnezone to be faster than Blissey. So I SUB'd again thinking it was going to try to T-Wave me. Just got a sub broke for my troubles.
I make a note of this. Tossing over Waving..

Oh well, I'm gonna go down fighting! Maybe a crit will deliver itself! /stubborn

Turn 11-15:

Magnezone used Charge Beam(sp.atk.up)(Blissey 95%)
Blissey used Seismic Toss(50%?)

Magnezone used Charge Beam(sp.atk.up)(Blissey 85%)
Blissey used Seismic Toss(Magnezone 35%)

Magnezone used Charge Beam(Blissey 70%)
Blissey used Seismic Toss(Magnezone 10%)

Magnezone used Flash Cannon(Blissey 50%)
Blissey used Seismic Toss(Magnezone 0%, faints)

(there might have been one more round of that in here not not..not sure)

5-6

Kou draws first blood..or battery fluid..

Fate sent in Swellow

My Red Bomber! Hope you be able to turn this game around. Like a falling Phoenix you will go out into a blaze of Glory.

Usually I protect for my Flame Orb to kick in, but I think my opponent will switch.

Turn 16:

Kou withdraws Blissey
Kou sends in Metagross(SR damage)
Swellow used Facade(Metagross 95%)

Alrite. Good, didn't do much damage, but every bit counts. However my Swellow will need to run away for the turn
Can't have that Metagross kill my bird.

Turn 17:

Swellow used U-Turn(Metagross 85%)
Fate sent in Tangrowth

Metagross usd Meteor Mash(Tangrowth 60%)(Leftovers)

Good, ATk UP didn't kick in. I have a chance.

Turn 18:

Tangrowth leech seeds.
(intermission)
This part I forget what happened for the turns, but I try to summarize to the best of my ability.

It was a mess of switchings in front of my Tangrowth. With leech seed hitting switches and taking bits of health
and ect. then switching right out, I also switched a turn or two as well.
I'm foggy about these turns. During the turns. Somehow Metagross ended up with about 15% health left. Also Cresselia took some Leech Seed damage as well and ends up at around 50% hp)
Anyway the 3-4 odd turns ended up with..

Turn 23:

Kou sent in Metagross(SR damage, 10%hp)
Tangrowth used Power Whip, it misses..

Too bad it missed. Didn't think it would kill it anyway.

Turn 24:

Metagross used Explosion.
Metagross explodes..
Tangrowth dies..

Wow..I should have seen that coming. My Tangrowth is gone from the match and he was at prime health too.

However, its not all bad. This gives us a clean pace-start. Either of us can take the pace this time.
Thinking he's either gonna send in
Cresselia or Blissey, I send back in my Swellow.

4-5

Fate sent in Swellow
Kou sent in Cresselia

Good. At this point, I weakened the pokemon that I seen a good amount putting them in kill range of my Swellow.

Time for your first kill Red Bomber.

Turn 25:

Swellow used Facade(Cresselia 0%, Faints)

Don't underestimate a bird on fire

4-4

Kou sends in Gliscor(SR damage)

Ouch. So i guess this is his answer as a physical barrier. I'm going to have to run since I don't think a Facade
will kill it, and I don't want an Aerial Ace to the face. So I switch out.

Turn 26:

Swellow used U-Turn(Gliscor 85%)
Fate sent in Swampert
Gliscor used Stealth Rock

hm, a SR. This puts my Swellow in a bind now that I U-Turn'd. I won't be able to bring it out again till the end as my ACE

Turn 27:

Kou withdraws Gliscor
Kou sent in Blissey(SR damage)
Swampert used Ice Beam(Blissey 45%)

Argh, its the pink blob again. Another checkpoint. I refuse to switch, and hit it with an EQ to test it out.

Turn 28:

Blissey Softboiled(100%), Swampert EQ, Blissey(60%)

crap, was hoping EQ would do more, seems there's some EVs in defense?
This goes on for 4-5 turns, and he doesn't Seismic Toss me. He just Soft-Boils.
Maybe he's stalling for a switch or planning.
I won't let him!
As long as you boil eggs, I shall quake the earth.

Turn 32:

Blissey used Armoatheraphy,
Swampert EQs(Blissey 50-55%)

interesting

Turn 33:

Kou withdraws Blissey
Kou sent out Gliscor(SR damage)
Swampert used Earthquake, it misses..

Interesting switch here I have to admit. However that Aromatherapy didn't slip pass my nose. He has to be bait for something..should I try to Ice Beam, or Hydro Pump?

(a few seconds before Kou makes his move after I select my move, feeling nervous)

Turn 34:

Kou withdraws Gliscor
Kou sent out Gallade(SR damage)
Swampert used Earthquake(Gallade 10%HP)

I was right! Gallade lives though.
Being low on pokemon to safely switch to, I decide I may have to leave
my Swampert to its death.

Turn 35:

Gallade used Hypnosis(Swampert falls asleep)
Swampert is asleep

Dang, error in judgement here. I already forgot about the Hypnosis, and it hits this time. I don't want Swampert
to die, because that would allow Gallade to hypnosis again, so I switch to take advantage of sleep clause.

Turn 36:

Fate withdraws Swampert
Fate sends in Mismagius(SR damage)
Kou withdraws Gallade
Kou sents in Garchomp(SR damage)

ohhh...a Double Switch. I love these. Very hotblooded when it happens imo. Guess he thought he could take advantage
of my sleeping swampert and kill it before it had a chance to counter with beam or something.

With Mismagius out, I could either Destiny Bond or attack or switch..

Turn 37:

Mismagius used Shadow Ball(Garchomp 55%)
Garchomp used Stone Edge(LifeOrb'd)(45%), Mismagius(0%, faints)

Ouch. LifeOrb'd.. Should have Destiny Bond'd. I thought Mismagius might have been able to live.

Oh well, maybe next time. But I still have my Swellow! Here's where the final turns of the match comes together.

3-4

Fate sent in Swellow(SR Damage, 45%HP?)

Turn 38:

Kou withdraws Garchomp
Kou sent in Gliscor(SR damage)
Swellow used Facade(Gliscor 30%)(Burns, 30% left)

YES!! From the time Gliscor showed its face, the turns I was making was aiming for this. I was aiming to make him send it out so I could hit it on the switch.
Being able to hit it on the switch. Looking back, I guess he was forced to.
Anything else he sent out would be beat up.

Facade doing heavy damage on Gliscor even with somewhat beefy defense(edit) Don't underestimate the GUTS of a Bird on its
last feathers.

Turn 39:

Swellow used Facade,(Gliscor 0%,faints)
Swellow burns(20%HP)
Swellow Facades, Gliscor faints.(woot) Swellow burns(20%)

Good. The fight is in Swellow's pace now with its flame getting low

3-3

Kou sends in Gallade(SR damage)

Turn 40:

Swellow used Facade, Galade(0%, faints)
Swellow burns(10%)

A sacrifical stall, hoping to take my Swellow's flame away

3-2

Kou sends in Blissey(SR damage)(50-55%)

yes..Blissey. What I been waiting for. My Swellow has had many Blissey kills under its belt. Being to able to hit for almost a whole bar.
However it seemed this Blissey had higher defense evs than the other Blisseys. Going to have to go for it.
BREAK thru that pink blob!

Turn 41:

Swellow used Facade, Blissey(0%, faints)
Swellow burns, (0%, faints)

You did good bird. You did good.
Swellow succumbs to its burns and falls from the sky.

2-1

Fate sends in Porygon2(SR damage)
Kou sends in Garchomp(SR damage, 40%)

Finally, my Porygon2 makes it to the scene. Been keeping it hidden for Garchomp. Unfortunely there weren't any
good things to Trace, so that's probably another reason I didn't end up bringing it in sooner.

Turn 42:

Garchomp used Outrage(Porygon2 lives with 58HP)
Garchomp(LifeOrb'd 30%)
Porygon2 used Ice Beam

Garchomp faints.

2-0

Close one there. I expected my Porygon2 to live with his defenses and HP over P-Z, but not that much damage.
I account this for that dang LifeOrb.

I finished the match with a badly damaged Porygon2 and a full health Swampert.

If the Outrage had killed my P2, it could have gone either way. With Garchomp trying to Outrage it thru Swampert's nap and hoping it doesn't wake up, and it could have gotten confused in the middle and kill itself either from Confuse or from its own Life Orb. Close map really even though the score was 2-0.

Literally took the pace of the match by a few wise choices. Guess that's really all that any victory needs.

Final Thoughts:

Not bad for my first Smogon match. I usually battle on another board, and felt like fighting someone from here for once.

Pros: Tangrowth, Swampert, and Swellow pulling its weight. Smart switching and Smart NOTSwitching.

Being patient enough to wait for my chance. GUTS moments.
1st match, 1st victory, yay.

Cons: Mismagius, Magnezone going down without doing much. They served their purpose I think.
Porygon2 not having much of a role.
Getting my Tangrowth smacked with an obvious incoming explosion. and not Destiny Bonding that Garchomp earlier. Could have immunity'd the explosion with mismagius and destiny bond the Garchomp if it would switch in.

Was the metagross choicebanded? How come no trapping and killing it with magnezone? (if it was)

Good battle, cool using Swellow

One small irk, Gliscor is Ground/Flying and takes neutral damage from Facade, so Swellow with stab, +Guts + Facade's Double bonus, it can strike fear in Physical Walls without a Normal Resist. Read: (Non-Skarms).

Another warstory? My lord! Soon we're going to need another subforum for warstories. Before I get offtrack, nice story. I like how you refrained from using the typical OU team vs OU team and went with many things people don't consider or don't use anymore such as swellow, mismagious, Tangrowth, and porygon2. I think raikou should be referred to as "Raikou77" (his smogon name), as there are a few raikou's and I think there's another user named just plain "raikou."

actually the Raikou here's Smogon name is Kou, his in-game game was Raikou, I just stick to their smogon name in the future.

<<<Was the metagross choicebanded? How come no trapping and killing it with magnezone? (if it was)>>>

I'm not sure about metagross's this gen, I think it was because I was afraid it might have earthquake or something like that..

heh, my name just got changed yesterday, that's why SePh was saying that. (I like shorter names better now)

Anyway, it was a good battle. I made a lot of mistakes. I was tired and sleepy, so I'm not very surprised.(1:30 AM) My team is way too slow, going to change that soon. Metagross was Scarf'd btw.

Great warstory. I also give Tricky a plus for using my favorite pokemon, Porygon2!

Gallade is something not to be underestimated though, it can take a few Special hits with his rather large special defense.

Nice!

I admit u as Progamer ô,ô
Impressive Prediction as I think ô,ô
Just the Explo Boom of Metagross was a great Mistake

Also ur Swellow is nice. It's cool that some Trainer here have their Signature-PKMN xP
:P

So that's who Raikou was battling when I was making a trade late last night...

Anyway, good warstory! I also agree with using more things that other people don't normally use. I'm halfway finished training my team. Once I'm done, I'll start battling.

^
heh, guess that was a mistake in my memory.

<<<Isnt it is better to attach a Poison Orb instead of Flame Orb? ô,ô>>>

Burn Orb doesn't lower atk.
and Toxic Orb is toxic damage, so I think with the way I use Swellow, its kind riskier.

If I could find a "**** YEAH, PORYGON2!" picture, I'd post it =D As a sidenote, most Blissey's pack 252 HP and 252 defense with a Bold nature. So expect that!

It's better to use Burn Orb Hikari. GUTS completely nullifies the attack drop from Burn and gives you the boost. Unlike Toxic Orb, it doesn't get more and more damaging.

Well with a U-turn set I think Toxic orb vs. Flame Orb is definitely debatable. Flame Orb lends itself to Sub-Endeavor sets while Toxic can do less damage when used with U-turn varieties.

Swellow <3.

Facade doing heavy damage on Gliscor even with the defense and NVE message. Don't underestimate the GUTS of a Bird on its
last feathers.

Gliscor is not resistant to Normal!
icon4.gif

Anyway, good battle too bad Mismagius didn't see any good use, I like her

Why would you ever put a Toxic Orb on a Guts Pokemon? There is nothing to be gained from inflicting Toxic poison on yourself. It's not debatable.
