Mysterious Cove:

"Did you ever hear of the Legends?"

"What Legends?"

"Of Pokemon so rare, so powerful, that their very existence is debated even amongst Pokemon researchers."

"Oh, those legends. What of it?"

"They say there is a cove with a rare Pokemon in it. The Pokemon around there aren't particularly strong, and the place itself has been checked time and time again. But people still insist there's a legend there. But it can only be found if you can hear its voice."

"Sounds like a fairy tale. Lay off the whisky."

"Whatever you say. I'm heading over there to check it out."

There is a cove hidden deep in a forest that beckons those few chosen ones who seek the legends. In order to get there you will have to cross several kinds of treacherous terrain, but this may be your first chance to get a taste of adventure. A mysterious man meets you at the entrance, signaling you forward. Oddly, it seems like you're the only one who can see them. You ignore the jests of your friends and follow him. You think you've heard him speak before, but you can't quite remember what his voice sounds like. It strikes you as odd, but you head towards the Mysterious Cove anyway.

Player Options:
Begin your journey. Just post to say hi, really, given neither of you have anything but a few balls.

Alright, I'm bored and I have time to update, so I'm moving on. Keep up. And tell me if there is any way I can improve the layout/prose/whatever: I haven't done this before.

MrcRanger97

You slowly walk along, following occasional noises which the mysterious voice makes every now and then. As you head up to the cove you first have to travel through a small forest.

"Be on the lookout," the voice says to you. "In places like this, the Pokemon are highly territorial. Don't be fooled by their youth, they are wily creatures."

And just as soon as the sentence finishes you are attacked by a Ledyba and a Nincada. They stand one to each side between you and the voice, which you can hear slowly moving away. You try to dodge past quickly, but the Pokemon block the way, and you realise you have no option but to try and attack them quickly, before the mysterious voice disappears out of earshot. Then, suddenly, they ready themselves and attack, ready to defend their home!

Nincada: Bug Bite (Tzeentch) ~ Bug Bite (Tzeentch)

Bugoff: Bind Nincada--> Rock Slide
Tzeentch: Double Team (4 Clones)--> Teleport (Evasive)

God, these are a trek. But it's finished now, so let's goooo!

MrcRanger97

Despite their head start, these two little insects are slow as all buggery, so you easily get the jump on them with your older, more experienced Pokemon. Sirius gets in quickly and hits Ledyba with a quick Fake Out, causing it to flinch, and then Bugoff launches himself at Nincada, leaving Nincada in quite a Bind for some time. However, it still manages to launch a powerful Bug Bite at Tzeentch, hurting it badly before it splits up and creates four doubles to confuse her opponents.

Next, Tzeentch further confuses everyone by moving with all of his doubles in unison, and suddenly disappearing with a small turn on the spot, leaving no trace. Then, his partners move in together towards your buggy opponents: Bugoff letting go of Nincada in order to shower them with rocks and Sirius mashing Ledyba with a giant metallic fist. Afterwards, the two bugs fire off attacks at the air trying to find the elusive Tzeentch, but neither connects even with one of the clones, leaving the small psychic mon unharmed.

Despite getting the jump on you, these pesky bugs are slow as all buggery, so your older, more experienced Pokemon can easily get in a battering before either of them can move. Poli-chan begins, encasing himself in a cacoon of ice and beginning to roll around, battering into Ledyba and continuing the rolling unimpeded. Then, Ledyba responds with a powerful Bug Buzz at Ga-chan, beginning a long round of attacks at him. Then, in responce, Ga-chan looses a weird Supersonic attack at Nincada, but it unfortunately misses completely, leaving Nincada only confused about what that attack was supposed to do. However, this does leave him open to attack all three of his opponents with a weird vibrational signal. Then, Judgement finally gets around to attacking, but he misses his target completely.

Next, Poli-chan loops around, still rolling, and bashes once more into Ledyba, although this doesn't stop Ledyba once more laying in to Ga-chan, hurting him more with the weird buzz. Then, Ga-chan releases a weird Smokescreen around the two bugs, flowing out among the trees and then drawing back in suddenly towards Ledyba and Nincada, lowering their ability to see significantly. Next, Judgement finally hits Ledyba with a giant Head Smash, before the round is finished up with Nincada taking a bit bite out of Ga-chan, hurting him and bringing him closer to an early KO.

Ledyba: Mach Punch + Mach Punch ~ Cool Down
Nincada: Bug Bite + Bug Bite (Tzeentch) ~ Cool Down

Ledyba looks like he is in quite a difficult position and uses his final action before he is knocked out to deliver a hefty punch to Tzeentch, which unfortunately is not very effective, but does get the million-to-one chance of hitting the right clone. Then, Sirius hits him with a powerful attack out of the shadows and Bugoff launches another huge rock slide at him, finishing him off, finally. Next, Tzeentch tries to mantally attack Nincada, making it forget its move, but unfortunately it gets the move wrong and can't do anything! And, this leaves Nincada able to then take a huge bite out of Tzeentch, hurting it badly.

However, this minor setback leaves you able to just bludgeon Nincada, with all three pokemon attacking it quickly.

Ledyba: Evasive Agility ~ Evasive Agility
Nincada: Bug Bite (Ga-chan) ~ Bug Bite (Ga-chan)

You've had one round of attack, and things look good for your Pokemon. So good, in fact, that you begin to get a bit cocky and stop swarming Ledyba, under the assumption that Judgement can just take care of it later. However, after Poli-chan launches a weird hypnotic wave at Nincada, Ledyba starts a weird, sporadic movement around the arena that makes him almost impossible to see, let alone hit with an attack. Then, continuing the onslaught on Nincada, Ga-chan launches another weird supersonic attack at Nincada, but it misses again. Ga-chan really needs some aiming practise. Then, Judgement ignores the sleeping Nincada and bashes in with another huge smash of his head, leaving only barely able to continue, although still just in the fight.

Next, and with Ledyba still zooming around the stage and Nincada still just sleeping on the side, Poli-chan finally decides to actually attack Nincada with a giant waterfall, which cascades beautifully from a stock of water in one of the trees, which was apparently held up after the last shower, although you can't see any sign of rain now. This, however, wakes up Nincada, so while Ga-chan tries to rest after the beating before, Nincada can continue attacking, delivering a painful bite to the sleeping Ga-chan, before Judgement once again tries to hit Ledyba, but completely misses.

Shit.
Well I can go with a guarenteed catch with an ultra ball, or a 82% catch with a heal ball...
Heal ball it is!
Heal Ball--> Sport Ball
heres my calcs:
HB: ((1+190)*150*2)/270)/256=0.8289=82.89% so I need 8298 or under to catch it
Sport ball Is guaranteed to catch

Poli-chan: Hypnosis (Led)>>> Hypnosis (Nin)

Ga-chan: Sleep Talk [Flamethrower/Taunt/Shadow Ball/Extrasensory] (Led)>>> Sleep Talk [Flamethrower/SolarBeam/Shadow Ball/Extrasensory] (Nin)

Judgement: Substitute (15)>>> Swagger (Nin)

And with everyone's moves now legal, I think that finally the journeys will split up! Or not...

MrcRanger97

With Ledyba lying cold and fainted on the ground, it is just the three of you and Nincada left, and you're very confidant about your chances. You throw a Heal Ball, and that weird light bursts out and drags in the wounded Nincada...

The ball shakes once, twice, three times... it looks like it is going to break open, but no! It stops shaking, and you walk over and pick up your new Nincada, restored to full health by the mysterious power of the ball and ready to accompany you on your trip.

Catch Rate = (1 + (270-80)*255*1*1))/(270*256) = 70.10%

Ground: Ground STAB; Immune to all electrical attacks, can Dig through almost any substance, Evasive Digging reduced from 3 per action Energy Cost to 2 per action, superior senses in darkened cave surroundings.

Abilities:
Compoundeyes: (Innate) This Pokemon’s complex eyes give it a comprehensive view of the field, making its attack 30% (x1.3) more accurate.
Run Away (DW): (Innate) This Pokemon is quick on its feet and will evade any field traps and hazards that would harm it (Spikes, Stealth Rock, Toxic Spikes) in an arena. A Pokemon can still absorb Toxic Spikes if it has Run Away and is Poison-typed. Run Away does not allow the Pokemon to switch out of trapping moves or abilities, however it can escape other situational trapping strategies in battle.

You thought that you haad Ledyba on the ropes last round, but it somehow managed to escape your clutches, so you start off this time by putting a stop to any shenanigans from Ledyba with another hypnotic attack from Poli-chan... or at least you would have, if Poli-chan could hit Ledyba, which it doesn't. This, unfortunately, leaves Ledyba open to Encore Judgement, forcing him to keep bashing away for a while. Then, Ga-chan began to talk weirdly in his sleep, and then suddenly a giant Flamethrower lept forth, knocking Ledyba for six and finally knocking it out. However, and only after Judgement pounds Nincada with another giant head smash, Nincada unleashes a final gambit, using all of his remining life force at Ga-chan, hurting him badly, breaking him out of his sleep and leaving him very bruised as the round ends. This leaves you over the battle, but your Pokemon are quite bruised afterwards. At least, however, you can keep going into the next area...

Immediately following the brush you come to a deeper forest. You can sense Bug Pokemon crawling all around you. You still don't sense anything overpowering, but you are filled with foreboding. You also notice a large network of webbing in this area. After all, not every predator is large. You come to a tree full of Oran Berries
Bag_Oran_Berry_Sprite.png
with seemingly nothing around it. Three (x3) of the berries look ripe for plucking, and you know the supplies could help along the way.

Do you

a) Grab the Oran Berries
b) Continue through the forest.

Your Catching Formula is messed up.
it should be: ((1+(max hp*3-current hp*2))*catch rate*ball rate*status number)/max hp*3)/256.
and max catch rate in TLR is 150
So: ((1+(270-80))*150*2)/270)/256=0.8289=82.89% so I need 8289 or lower to catch. heal ball rate is 2 when under 50%hp.
Nincada's nature is wrong.
Naming him Greed
Party will be Kitsunoh, Pinsir, and Nincada.

No, the heal ball rate is 2 when over 50%.
Someone's derp'd in th thread. I'll fix it.
Cool.
Right.
You might as well post what you'd do with the Oran Berries too then: you get the same RP.

Doran Dragon, you could make it a bit less obvious you know what is going to happen.

Your instincts prove unfortunately right, as Ga-chan gets wrapped up in a Spider Web by Spinarak and dragged into the deep forest. It is going to take you two rounds to find the little menace. Meanwhile, Spinarak Hones its Claws and looks at your trapped Pokemon as if it is a delicacy.

A voice speaks to you and says "it looks like one of your Pokemon fell into a trap. It will have to work hard to fend it off, the Pokemon that lay in wait are perhaps the most devious of all. Remain calm and you should be able to keep your wits about you." With that done, however, you set off in the direction that you somehow knew Spinarak would take you, ready to yell orders ahead to Ga-chan in the hope of keeping him conscious.

Sorry, this is as far as i got last time, so i dont know what happens next. Heres to hoping I get to!

Also, I would be so psyched if Spinnarak or Ariados could learn Gyro Ball, with that speed, it'd dominate!

Lost the damn reffing. gdi. In other news, you're finally going to separate up this round! Yay!

It is a short round, because Spinarak just tries to hit you with Poison Jabs and you try to survive, but you don't. In fact, the poison damage kills you just before the restfullness heals a poison from the second round [according to IRC] and so you don't even get a hit on it. This means that Spinarak stops running and you and your mons can catch up, ready to try to revenge Ga-chan.

You have a short round, because Spinarak just unleashes his hidden power again and again, and partly because he boosted his accuracy going in to the battle, your attempts at destroying his accuracy doesn't really work at all. I guess it might be nerfed for next round, but for now you look like you might be in trouble. Good luck for next round!

Spinarak: Evasive Agility ~ Evasive Agility ~ Electroweb

You finally catch up, and order a whole slew of attacks at Spinarak, but they don't seem to do anything because Spinarak just dances around them, causing them all to miss, and eventually forcing Judgement to actually KO himself from exhaustion, leaving it all down to Poli-chan, who finally hits it with a powerful Ice Ball attack, finally getting some damage on Spinarak before it covers Poli-chan with a huge electrified web, hurting him and getting him bogged down in a big spiderweb, reducing his mobility going in to the next round.

You leave the forest and come to the mouth of the cove. It appears to be low tide, as two rock paths barely sticking up out of the water are the only way in. Their winding nature makes them look like long whiskers. Looking closely at the water, you can tell it is slightly illuminated, though you don't know why. In any case, it looks like you won't be able to cross without some resistance.

A voice speaks: "Welcome to a nest. What these Pokemon lack in strength they make up for in numbers. Plan carefully."
