I AM DONE :D

Say hello to the oddest Pokemon allowed in VGC 2012. With 20 / 20 offenses, 55 / 35 / 45 defenses, and a mediocre base 75 Speed stat, you would wonder why you would ever use it. Maybe it would be used because it can learn almost every move in the Pokemon universe. This makes Smeargle into one of the best support Pokemon available. It has an incredible amount of moves it can use, such as Fake Out, Helping Hand, Tailwind, and Trick Room. However, if you sneeze hard enough, you can KO it, which doesn't help while it's trying to support a team. This isn't helped by Smeargle's terrible offensive stats, leaving it as complete Taunt bait. To top it all off, the best move Smeargle can get for VGC 2012, Dark Void, is banned. Nevertheless, Smeargle can be very annoying to your opponent if you play it correctly.

[SET]
name: Utility Lead
move 1: Fake Out
move 2: Spore
move 3: Follow Me / Helping Hand
move 4: Taunt / Encore
item: Focus Sash / Mental Herb
ability: Own Tempo / Moody
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]

With Smeargle's massive movepool and somewhat acceptable Speed, it can pull off a lead set to great effect. Fake Out flinches your opponent, giving your teammate a chance to set up a Tailwind or Trick Room, or takes out an opponent before it can threaten your team. Base 75 Speed helps outpace Pokemon like Tyranitar and Metagross. It also means that Smeargle is the fastest user of Spore in the entire game, which is useful against Pokemon such as Trick Room users. Follow Me draws attacks away from Smeargle's partner, givingit time to attack the opponent. Helping Hand can help Smeargle boostthe power of its partner's attacks by 50%, which can be the difference between the opponent being KOed or surviving. The last slot is up to what Smeargle needs to accomplish. With Taunt, it can stop slower support Pokemon such as Cresselia and Musharna though Mental Herb is very common, taking away the guarantee that Taunt stops them. Encore locks the opponent into moves such as Protect, making prediction easier.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

With Smeargle's horrible defenses, a Focus Sash is a great item for it, letting Smeargle survive at least one attack. If a teammate is already holding a Focus Sash, Mental Herb is an option, allowing Smeargle to break through Taunt and Spore the opponent. The EVs allow Smeargle to outspeed and Spore Hitmontop, Metagross, Tyranitar, and Mamoswine.

The best teammates for Smeargle are Pokemon that set up, such as Quiver Dance Volcarona or Dragon Dance Haxorus. Frail sweepers that can't take a hit also work well with Smeargle, such as Weavile and Zoroark. Smeargle has two abilities to use. Own Tempo prevents confusion, which can be useful when your opponent uses Confuse Ray or Teeter Dance. Moody can make Smeargle harder to KO and can increase its Speed by 2 stages, meaning it can now outspeed Pokemon such as Latios and Terrakion. Just be aware that Moody has a chance to reduce Smeargle's Speed; the base 70 Speed Pokemon it was once outspeeding could now outspeed it.

[SET]
name: Lv. 1 Trick Room
move 1: Trick Room
move 2: Spore
Move 3: Endeavor
move 4: Feint / Destiny Bond
item: Focus Sash
ability: Own Tempo
nature: Brave
ivs: 0 HP / 0 Def / 0 SpD / 0 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]

This set is very useful in Ubers and OU and can be successful in VGC 2012 as well. One thing that sets this variation of Smeargle apart from Lv. 1 Cottonee and Whimsicott is Spore, which must be utilized with this set. Unless double targeted or Taunted, Smeargle will always get Trick Room up, which is nice when using a Trick Room team. Endeavor bring s the foe to low HP, making it easier to take out that turn or later on in the battle. Feint breaks Protect when in Trick Room, as most Pokemon try to Protect and stall out Trick Room. However, Destiny Bond can be used to take out an opponent when Smeargle has done its job.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Focus Sash is necessary for this set to work, as Smeargle is unable to survive any direct damage at Level 1. This set also requires a large amount of team support to function well. Fake Out users, such as Harriyama or Scrafty, can flinch an opponent to stop Smeargle from being double targeted or Taunted that turn. Pokemon that use Rage Power or Follow Me also make great teammates, redirecting incoming attacks to themselves, thus protecting Smeargle. Togekiss or Amoonguss make fine choices here; both have decent amount of bulk to survive attacks. Moves like Dragon Rage or ExtremeSpeed also work with this set, as after you Endeavor the opponent, you can KO it with priority or use Dragon Rage to guarantee the KO.

[Other Options]

Smeargle can literally use all moves except for Chatter; the problem is trying to find moves it can utilize well whilst not being completely outclassed. Thunder Wave can be used as a status move, but Pokemon such as Thundurus and Cresselia can use this move better thanks to priority or higher defenses, respectively. Will-O-Wisp is another status move that Smeargle can use, but Sableye outclasses Smeargle due to Prankster. Super Fangcuts down bulky Pokemon such as Cresslia and Metagross, weakening them to let a teammate KO them later on. Tailwind gives team support, and lets Smeargle outspeed faster Pokemon such as Tornadus or Infernape. Detect and Protect can be used to gain an extra turn on the field, be it for stalling or scouting. Imprison + 3 moves is somewhat viable, and can often catch your opponent off guard. Moody + Entertainment is pretty cool, but it is a gimmicky strategy at best and relies on a bit of luck. Smeargle can also use Baton Pass with Moody, but since VGC 2012 battles are so short, it isn't really worth the moveslot. Transform can work with a bit of luck, but is otherwise extremely unreliable. Finally, Choice Scarf can be used to let Smeargle Spore faster opponents before they can move, or with Trick or Switcheroo.

[Checks and Counters]

Since Smeargle does nothing other than support the team, it isn't that hard to beat. Taunt is the easiest way to do this, as it shuts down both variants of Smeargle. However, be careful of Smeargle carrying Mental Herb. Pokemon that carry Lum Berry or Chesto Berry can also check Smeargle, as it allows them to bypass Spore and KO the artist. Also, you can just get rid of Smeargle the old-fashioned way: OHKO it with any move. However, remember that most Smeargle carry a Focus Sash, and can survive one hit to put you to sleep.

Overview]
- biggest move pool, only move it doesn't get is roflchatter
- moody makes it so annoying of it stays in for a bit
- 75 base speed helps outspeed stuff like ttar and metagross. Also hit onto but that only ever uses priority so
- fastest Spore user
- dark void got banned which sucks for him
- horrid stats except for speed
- taunt will make it want to kill itself
- 4 moveslot syndrome... So many good moves to use, only 4 slots lol

[SET COMMENTS]
- Again MAJOR 4 MOVESLOT SYNDROME
- Spore is a must for him, as there would be no other reason to use him as other support mons have better defenses
- Fake Out helps in having your ally set up, but don't expect to do any sort of damage with it.
- Taunt can be used to stop apposing set up.
- Encore can be used to trap pokemon like Hitmontop and Cress into a useless attack.
- Focus Sash is desirable, as it has bad defenses
- Mental Herb is a decent alternative, as it allows you to break through Taunt and Encore and spam Spore
- own tempo let's you avoid confusion, not like you'd need it every game
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- best teammates are pokemon that set up
- frail sweepers that can't take a hit also
- with those evs you actually do damage with fake out and can be as bulky as smeargle gets and very fast too
- you arent using its sp.a so might as well decrease it to boost speed

[SET COMMENTS]
- To be better than Lv. 1 Whimsicott/Cottonee, need to utilize Spore
- Unless double targeted, will always get a Trick Room up
- Endeavor brings the opponent to low HP, making it easy to take out later/ same turn in Trick Room
- Extreemspeed is to finish the pokemon you Endeavored
- Focus Sash is a must, not surviving anything at Level 1. Not like it survives anything at level 100 anyways
- To work, needs team support, a Fake Out lead/ Rage Power or Follow Me Lead along with Smeargle works fine
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- HE CAN DO ANYTHING
- Rage Powder/Follow Me can be used to make all attacks go to Smeargle, increasing support, however his low bulk makes it unreliable, unless you just need 1 turn of set-up, and have a focus sash. If not, it gets ohkoed and makes the whole strategy useless
- He could use Tailwind, and he makes a decent user of Tailwind thanks to Spore.
[Other Options]
- joke about jimbo is as big as smeargle's movepool
- Thunder Wave can be used as a status move, however pokemon like Thundurus and Cresslia can do T-WAve better thanks to Priority or Better bulk, respectively
- Will-O-Wisp can be used to spread burn, however pokemon like sabeyle have Priority burns, making even the fastest physical attacker bow down in fear
- Super Fang can be used to cut down Pokemon like Cresslia and Metagross
- Detect can be used to gain an extra turn on the field, if you need it for whatever reason
- Imprison + 3 moves that give your team trouble is p. good, and probably will catch your opponent surprised
- moody + entrainment is p. cool, but relies a bit on luck
- you can use bp with moody, but the battles are so short, good luck
-transform is gimmicky but can work
- choice scarf for a fast spore, or in conjunction with trick or switcheroo
[Checks and Counters]
