So, I start out in the Outpost Stand, and boom, instantly I get an email from Nett telling me that he’s got a new system in place that downloads Shadow Pokemon data directly to my P*DA. I don’t give a shit about it though, so let’s just walk around and see if we can’t find some new stuff to do eh?
*as soon as I leave the stand I get another email from Secc saying there’s a Shadow Pokemon in Pyrite*
Eh, only lead I got as to what to do next so I might as well check it out.
*Talks to Secc who says that Cail from oh so long ago recently battled a trainer with weird Pokemon*
Well, to Cail again I suppose. Maybe this time he won’t make me battle him for the information?
*yeah fat chance, battle go!*
*His Pokemon are the same level as motherfucking Nascour’s were*
.... Shit wasn’t really ready for this.
*Despite my fears the battle goes fairly well, though I’m not able to just keep in DR.PROTECT and Voice like I would have wanted*
*phew* Looks like this next bit will be an actual challenge.
*Anyway he points me in the direction of the Snagem Hideout, so that means a new place to explore!*
Aha! New area! This should be good fun.
*Certainly, the Snagem Hideout has seen better days. Oh wait, yeah, I blew it up*
Ah, finally I get to survey my own handiwork. Shame, the thing is still standing. Next time I’ll put the explosives near supporting walls.
*BOOM NINJA FROM CEILING!*
Oh wait, it’s just a Cipher Peon. Apparently they’re out for revenge as this guy says I beat him before, though I can’t remember for the life of me when.
*To my annoyance, his Pokemon are the same high levels as Cail’s were*
Yup looks like I’ll actually have to fight for realz. Well this should be fun...
*actually his team isn’t too hard thankfully*
Yay for idiots having teams full of bug types!
*Voice wants to learn Hydro Pump*
Hmmmm... nah I don’t think so. I need Surf for reliability and multi-target capabilities, and I break restrictions if I delete anything else. Sorry.
*I go to heal and when I come back Skrub falls from the same spot on the ceiling*
Hey one I actually remember! I bet he’ll be the only one I do.
*He leads with a Wobbuffet and a Huntail against Omega and DR.PROTECT*
... Fuck.
*DR.PROTECT is OHKO’d by Hydro Pump*
Goddamnit... at least I can bring in Klepto now to take out that Wobuffet.
*Accidentally bring out Voice instead*
GODFUCKING DAMNIT.
*Medicham comes out after Huntail is down, with Omega still on the field unable to switch thanks to Shadow Tag*
FUCK THIS BS.
*Actually I get through the battle only losing DR.PROTECT.*
I think it is time for a meme.
*Next up is a female Cipher Peon I’ve apparently battled*
She called us spies so I guess she’s from The Under?
*I beat her easily, then decide to test something out.*
I’ve noticed that every time I go to Phenac to heal, then come back here, a Cipher Peon drops from the same place... I wonder if it’s infinite and I actually have to go through these clowns all at once. Eh, I’ll find out for sure in a moment.
*Yet another one falls from the same spot, another one I don’t recognize. And this one has a Shadow Sunflora... from the Realgam tower! I think I finally figured out where to get the Shadow Pokemon you missed earlier in the game!*
Well now, that explains a lot. I guess I can catch them all after all, so I’ll make an effort to with this here Sunflora. Looks like I will be able to get Ho-oh after all!
*I catch the Sunflora and head back to the Outskirt Stand to pick up more Pokeballs, because it’s time to get catchin’!*
You know what else this means? I have to go through that trainer gauntlet at Realgam Tower again...
*I come back to find a Shadow Delibird to capture! Yes, you read that right*
The most useless shadow Pokemon in the game! Yay.
*I accidentally OHKO it with Surf*
Welp, guess I’ll have to try that again later... no idea how I’m actually going to catch that thing, it has Vital Spirit and anything I have OHKOs it.
*This time I continue on through the building, getting my Shadow Pokemon list updated by email after I hit the top of the stairs*
Ok great, now can I finish this place already?
*The place has branching paths*
Goddamnit.
*There are also old Team Snagem members hanging around*
Heh, soon you’ll be as wrecked as your pathetic excuse for a base...
*I beat him but Voice actually gets KO’d in the process, so I leave to heal again*
Well I’m going to have to battle those Cipher Peons many times anyway so why not?
*As I leave I get ambushed by one*
GODDAMIT I DIDN’T THINK IT’D HAPPEN GOING BACK.
*One smashed Peon and a captured Shadow Heracross later*
Lost DR.PROTECT too there... stupid annoying Cipher bullshit.
*on my way back I encounter the Delibird again, and this time actually catch it, though DR.PROTECT faints AGAIN to a critical Mud Shot from a Pilloswine, so I head back to heal... AGAIN*
Seriously, screw this BS.
*I head back AGAIN but this time... no ceiling ninjas?*
Huh? Do only some Cipher peons appear there? Maybe they stop dropping once you’ve beaten them all once and gotten all their Shadow Pokemon... still, this does give me hope I’ll be able to get the other Shadow Pokemon I missed, including that Shadow Ariados that started it all, somewhere else eventually... anyway, might as well explore this place fully now.
*I travel through the building, beating all the trainers I encounter*
Yawn. Some cool-ish items in here but really other than that so far this place is boring except for training. Lots of exp to be earned here, that’s for sure.
*Fluffy wants to learn Sky Attack! Make room for Sky attack?*
Hmmm usually I wouldn’t, but all I have for flying STAB is Fly which is also two turns anyway... yeah I’d say this is an improvement, why not?
*Can’t delete Fly*
BUT YOU CAN’T EVEN USE HMS IN THIS GAME. Well screw that, it’s not better than Sing and I’m required to have Refresh...
*Finally, I get to the end and face down the Cipher Peon that’s been using the Shadow Bayleef!*
Alright, here we go!
*The Bayleef is level 30*
... Well there go any plans of hitting it directly, as I’m pretty sure even Voice’s Surf will knock it out. I’ll have to use Klepto to wear it down with Confusion I guess.
*It paralyzes Mario with Body Slam, getting itself Paralyzed in the process, allowing it to be caught with just one Ultra Ball. The rest of the team is a breeze*
Well that turned out to be pretty damn easy.
*I walk out through a massive hole in the wall, and find out that if it weren’t for the camera mechanics, I totally could have just walked right to the guy and skipped the entire area*.
GAAAAAAAAAME! If you’re going to make an easy return route, at least give a plausible reason for not being able to go through it in the first place!
*Leaving triggers another email with more Shadow Pokemon to add to the list, but no information on where to get Quilava*
C’mon now, just let me get on with it...
*Going to Pyrite triggers another email, this time telling me to head to The Under and talk to Nett.*
Finally, we’re getting somewhere.
*I talk to Nett who tells me to talk to some dude named Gurks, in front of the Junk Shop*
Ok I think I know where that is. I think this is the guy that had Feebas and Magikarp last time I fought him... maybe this time he’ll have better Pokemon. Because you KNOW he’s going to battle me.
*Yeah, of course he does. This time, he has two motherfudging Wailord. Last time, he had one.*
Alright, DR.PROTECT ain’t sticking around, not if I want him to live. Anyway, this shouldn’t be hard.
*Hard it most certainly was not*
So he tells me the guy’s name is Russo and he was in a red outfit, but not where to find him... maybe Nett will know?
*yeah no dice*
Well crap. Thanks game, dead ending me like that. Maybe if I wander around for a while...
*I decide to just go somewhere else and see if I get an email. Sure enough...*
Aha, the Shadow Pokemon Lab then eh? Now I know where to go. Let’s get to it!
*It takes some wandering around but eventually I run into a Cipher Peon*
Aha, here we go. I was beginning to wonder if I had missed a trigger or something. Now to test if they keep coming down in this spot like they did at the Snagem Hideout...
*Nope, come to think of it I’m pretty sure that was the same guy that was there before*
Ah, so the Ariados one should be where he was before in here... good... good...
*Yup seems to be the case. I proceed to smash my way through to the place I left off before*
*on the way, DR.PROTECT wants to learn Body Slam... at level 60*
Yeah... no sorry, I actually USE Yawn now that I’m catching Shadow Pokemon again.
*soon I encounter the Shadow Ariodos again!*
Alright awesome! I’ll just get rid of its allies first...
*Does so but Ariados actually does a lot of damage to Omega in the process thanks to poison from Sludge Bomb*
Annoying. Anyway, I can’t actually put it to sleep since it has Insomnia, so I need to try and weaken it through confusion hax. That means I gotta have someone tank it for a while and... Boy, I see why I accidentally killed this thing last time. Thankfully, Net Balls should make this fairly easy.
*Yup, two Net Balls in I catch it at almost full health with no status conditions*
Shit these Net Balls are powerful. Anyway, I’m going to go heal then I’ll be back...
*I proceed on through the rest of the area towards that Shadow Quilava owner*
Aha, there he is. Looking for the data disk I took are you? You’re way too late bud.
*So we battle and I like totally snag his Quilava and shiz.*
YAY ME.
*I also find TM26 Earthquake in a chest just beyond him!*
Oooooooooo Earthquake! Let’s see... the only Pokemon I can teach it to are DR.PROTECT and Fluffy because of restrictions... but I’m not sure it’d actually be much use on either of them. I think their sleep inducing moves are probably better, given their low attack power. Sooo yeah, another TM I’m never going to use! Yay?
*As I leave, I get an email with a photo of one of the kids in the under attached to it*
Alright, great, this is totally useless. Thanks Nett.
Alright, so now what’s next? I guess I’ll just wander around and wait for emails like before. Actually before we do that, there is one more thing I’d like to do...
*I travel to Mt. Battle and prepare for area 9!*
I won’t do Area 10 just yet because those Pokemon will outlevel me, but I assure you I will do the whole thing before the end of this chapter! I’m just doing this first.
*When I get to Mt. Battle I get an email telling me about a large Snag machine being fixed by team Snagem*
Ah so I gotta go back to the hideout next eh? Well I’m doing this first kthnxbai.
*I emerge from the rest area above the clouds, high up in the air, with lava rolling down the side of the mountain to my left*
Damn, I wonder what the top looks like. I’m starting to get excited about this actually; I’ve never beaten Mt. Battle or fully completed the post-game before.
*First battle sees Omega get KO’d*
Yeah, this isn’t going to be really easy is it? At least I just have to make it through the battles...
*next battle has a Breloom use Counter on Omega after Omega reduces it to the red with Cross Chop*
Oh shit, there goes Omega again.
*Nope, hangs on with 8 HP thanks to the massive HP difference between the two Pokemon*
DAMN that really says something doesn’t it?
*Next few battles are challenging, but not horrific*
Alright, this should be pretty easy no-
*next battle is insanely annoying and haxy and has DR.PROTECT faint... and Voice too... TWICE*
GODDAMIT I WANTED TO GET VOICE SOME EXPEREINCE IS THAT A CRIME? FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
.
.
.
Ok that’s it with the raging. For now.
*Ok maybe a bit more, as Voice requires a Hyper Potion the next battle due to hitting himself 4 times in a row in his confusion*
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGE!!!!!!!!!!
*finally, after another couple battles, I reach the Area Leader*
Ooo boy, here we go! 5 level 60s... this is not going to be easy.
*Actually, it’s pretty anti-climactic, as his Sunny Day grass type team is rather easily dispatched, though Mario does get KO’d*
Oh. Alright, then, I guess they’re saving the big battles for the next area. Still, losing a faint counter is annoying.
Alright, now back to the Snagem hideout once more! Let’s see what’s going on there shall we?
*When I get there I get another email telling me to expect a Shadow Ursaring and Smeargle there*
There we go, now I know what to expect. But now that I think of it, I should probably stock up a little on supplies before going on.
*While over in Agate I suddenly remember to check the Pokemon I caught for held items, and start distributing them to the party*
I should’ve done this ages ago... let’s see, a Dragon Fang for Fluffy and... actually that’s it, since Quick Claw is better for DR.PROTECT than Charcoal is. Well it’s something at least. Now Dragon Breath will do a little more damage.
*I head back to the hideout and take a look around, finding at first nothing has changed...*
What’s going on... maybe these Snagem members that were here before have the Shadow Pokemon now?
*Not the first one I fight, that’s for sure*
More exploration then?
*I come across a female Body Builder that I had not seen here before!*
YAY NEW BATTLES! She’s probably got one of the Shadow Pokemon too.
*nope*
...... C’mon!
*I go back to heal and come back again... to find a new female trainer blocking the path!*
Oh, I guess this is so you can recapture some Pokemon from trainers that weren’t Cipher Peons. Well I guess I’ll beat them all now and see if there’s anything I missed...
*Actually after her there are no more new ones that come.*
Alrighty then... I’ll just... move on I guess...
*I actually find a third female trainer on the next floor... the same one that cried when we beat her while chasing Venus*
Ahhhh I thought those two looked familiar. This one won’t have a Shadow Pokemon but after this I shouldn’t run into any more of them.
*whoops forgot there were actually 4 of them helping Venus*
Oh whatever.
*after beating her I move on some more... and when I get to where the Bayleef trainer was, there’s a new Snagem member to battle!*
Ooo will he have the shadow Pokemon? Oh and apparently I came here to wreck the snag machine. Sure why not, shit exploding is fun.
*He has a team consisting of nothing but Smeargle*
Wait what.
*Sure enough, one of them is the Shadow Smeargle I’ve been looking for!*
YAY! One more down! Not many left I think...
*After defeat*
Snagem Biden: “I was going to knock you out, then paint your loser face with my Smeargle...”
You should’ve been focusing more on the “knock you out” part and less on the “Smeargle” part buddy. They’re not exactly compatible together.
*I head down past the broken snag machines and learn from another Snagem member that the rumors of a Snag Machine were a trap to lure me in, and that Gonzap is behind it*
It’d be a better trap if I weren’t totally capable of destroying all you fools you know...
*As I expected, this guy has the Shadow Ursaring I also came here for*
Alright, now this capture won’t be as easy as the last one...
*I weaken it a bit with Voice’s Surf, then Confuse it and put it to sleep.*
Alright all good so far...
*It does a massive amount of damage to itself when it hits itself*
EEEEP! Don’t kill yourself please! I haven’t saved recently!
*Thankfully my first Ultra Ball catches it*
Phew... alright, just one more Shadow Pokemon left that isn’t in Realgam Colosseum, I think.
Now, from what that guy told me Gonzap is here, and I bet he’s down the path I didn’t take the first time. I’ll head there after I heal and take care of him again!
*I go down the path and Gonzap is in the office at the end... with level 64+ Pokemon!*
Holy crap... this promises to be challenging.
*I lead with DR.PROTECT and Omega, and he with Armaldo and Granbull, who immediately intimidates my Pokemon*
Crap... Well Omega SHOULD still be able to KO that Granbull. I’m putting a Reflect up then I’ll bring out Voice in place of DR.PROTECT.
*Astonishingly, Omega is actually the fastest here and goes first, but Cross Chop does not OHKO Granbull. They set up with Sword Dance and Bulk up for their turns...*
Well it’s a damn good thing I got that Reflect up... alright come on out Voice. Hopefully he doesn’t heal that Granbull...
*Oh he totally heals it. Brick Break doesn’t even bring it past half health thanks to the defense boost from Bulk Up. Thankfully his Armaldo just uses Ancient Power on Omega, which doesn’t do much*
Ok... someone had better target Voice so I can get this over with quickly. Omega SHOULD finish off Granbull with Cross Chop now... especially after Voice Screeches at it.
*Yup that works. It is replaced by a Crawdaunt... but Omega is immediately KO’d by Hyper Beam from Armaldo!*
SHIT! That was not expected! Damn... alright, Kelpto come out and then I’m using a Max Revive on Omega. He needs EXP and is my best bet for this Crawdaunt.
*Klepto confuses the Crawdaunt, which, to my horror, uses Sword Dance as well. Armaldo is still recharging.*
Goddamit, why won’t anyone target Voice? He could OHKO that damn Armaldo if the game would give him a chance... ah well, back to Omega.
*Oh they do target him. And kill him. Brick break to take down the Reflect and Ancient Power to finish it off*
SHIT. I am so fucked... Mario come out, maybe you can OHKO that stupid Armaldo... or at least get another Reflect up.
*I have Mario Psybeam Armaldo and Omega Brick Break Crawdaunt. The Crawdaunt goes down, and the Armaldo gets to half health before OHKOing Omega with Hyper Beam again*
Poor, Omega, twice in one fight! At least the next Pokemon that came out is Breloom, who can be defeated with ease by Mario... I AM healing Omega up again btw. DR.PROTECT is coming out again to put up Reflect or die, whichever comes first.
*Breloom is OHKO’d and Omega Revived. Next out is a Machamp, also weak to Mario but less likely to be OHKO’d*
Well that Armaldo goes first. I just know the mofo is going to Hyper Beam again if I don’t do something now. Reflect going up too if I can, as I’m likely to need it...
*Gonzap uses an X-Attack on Machamp and a Full Restore on Armaldo, who is back to about 50% after taking a second Psybeam*
CRAP CRAP CRAP! DIE!
*Psybeam thankfully does KO it, revealing his last Pokemon to be a Gyarados. Meanwhile, his Machamp Bulks up and DR.PROTECT gets up a Light Screen*
Oh dear. Well I got one hope now... DR.PROTECT needs to Yawn that Gyarados to sleep. Then I should be able to take it out at my leisure. Also, I’m having Mario Psybeam that Machamp of course.
*As I expected, his Gyarados boosted using Dragon Dance. Unexpectedly, his Machamp OHKO’s Mario with Hyper Beam after barely tanking a Psybeam*
Well fuck. Thank lord for faint counters... I always keep them topped up. Fluffy is out now and should be able to finish off that Machamp before it can cause more trouble. That Gyarados though... well it’ll be asleep at the end of the turn at least.
*I use DR.PROTECT’s turn to Revive Mario, and have Fluffy finish off the Machamp. To my surprise, the Gyarados opts to use Roar on DR.PROTECT, dragging out Omega before it falls asleep*
Well at least Omega will level up from this battle... he won’t be much use against this Gyarados though, so time to bring back Mario, who is my best hope of taking this thing down before it wakes up!
*Fluffy and Mario pound away at Gyarados, actually KOing it in one turn thanks to a critical Dragon Breath!*
Whew! That was a rough one... worked out in the end though I suppose.
So anyway, Gonzap bids farewell in his arrogant and offensive way before taking his leave and I find a D-Disk on the table. Hmmm a D-Disk eh? Looks like there’s more to The Under than meets the eye!
*Traveling doesn’t prompt anymore emails, so I presume this disk is intended to be the clue as to where I am supposed to go next*
Alright, to The Under next then I suppose. I wonder what awaits me down there. But before I go on... I think I ought to train a little. Gonzap was almost too much for my team and the challenges are only going to get harder from here on out... I bet I can take on the last bit of Mt. Battle though! Let’s do that now eh?
*The first battle doesn’t have any Pokemon above level 60, to my confusion*
Wait shouldn’t the levels still be going up? I’m not complaining if they’re not but... still. Oh, and we’re back over magma again, this time a river of it running down the side. I guess I’ll be reaching the crater soon...
*Another battle makes it clear the levels aren’t going above 60*
Well that’s pretty sweet actually; it means I can redo this level for good training later on should the need arise...
*The first few battles aren’t too tough, though I do end up using a fair number of items*
Geeze, I am going to have to restock again after this...
*The fifth battle involves massive hax which gets both Mario and Omega fainted*
.... I hate this game sometimes.
*Next battle sees Omega and Mario get fainted again, right after Mario earns back his faint counter*
GAH! This is starting to really annoy me! Suddenly shit is getting hard. Omega, being slow, is taking the worst of it... between Cross Chop hax and powerful weather boosted moves coming from Chlorophyll and Swift Swim users... he just can’t take it.
*The next trainer has lv 60 versions of all the fully evolved Johto starters, as well as a Breloom and Ampharos*
Heh, well that’s cool.
*He is the easiest one up until now, allowing Omega to finally level up*
YAY. Just three more to go...
*Omega gets critted twice in a row and faints at the very start of the next battle with a guy who has all the Hoenn starters*
.... BULLSHIT! Hax just freakin hates poor Omega...
*Then Voice then gets OHKO’d by a critical Leaf Blade. That’s 3 crits in a row*
Ok what did I do to piss off the game this time?
*Then Fluffy gets KO’d by two Ice Beams from his Swampert. Half my team falls to this guy*
... Fuck you and your hax man. And your Ice Beam too!
*The next guy haxes Voice and Omega to death too*
Ok, I am seriously getting ticked.
Alright, now for the final part of Mt. Battle. Say your prayers asshole, because I am TICKED!
*Rather than lead to another small platform, this staircase lead to the top of the mountain, which features a massive Colosseum with huge cranes holding it over top of a pool of lava*
Now this is a nice setting! Time to show this guy we mean business!
*First, there’s actually another Time Flute at the top of this place*
Oh cool. Anyway, BATTLE NOW!
*The final area leader is basically a re-skinned bodybuilder. Ick.*
Seriously, you couldn’t come up with anything better than this? Ah whatever, let’s get this over with.
*Nope, first a swooping cutscene just like you get in an ordinary Colosseum battle, complete with big letters saying “Mt. Battle Colosseum Final”*
Oh for the love of god, get on with it!
*He leads with a level 60 Pinsir and a level 60 Claydol*
Alright no messing around with EXP this fight. DR.PROTECT and Omega are ill-suited for this, so I’m switching to Voice and Fluffy.
*They both use Earthquake as I switch in, leaving Fluffy unhurt but Voice with almost half his health missing*
At least he can attack... SURFS UP DUUUUDE!
*Neither Pokemon is defeated by the onslaught, but Voice is reduced in health severly*
Well he’s about to get his 2 KOs anyway so... I guess I’ll just let him fall.
*nope, only 1 KO as Fluffy manage to KO Pinsir first. They are replaced by a Crobat and a Gligar*
Ohhhh ok then, NOW he’ll get another KO. But to make sure he survives whatever Crobat does, Fluffy’s turn is going to be spent healing him.
*Crobat actually goes for Fluffy to my surprise, nailing her with a critical Sludge Bomb. Astoundingly, The Gligar survives the Surf and then uses Earthquake, making it a good thing I healed Voice*
Alright, the Crobat is weak enough to fall to Fluffy’s Dragonbreath and Voice’s surf will KO the Crobat and also smash whatever comes in to replace Crobat hard as well. Hopefully, Fluffy outspeeds this thing though, or Voice could go down before he gets off his Surf.
*Nope, no luck. Voice is KO’d and replaced with Omega. At least his Crobat does succumb to Dragon Breath, being replaced by a Flygon*
Alright, Fluffy and Omega are both targeting that Flygon, as it is way more dangerous than Gligar is.
*Omega is astoundingly KO’d by twin Earthquakes before he can get an attack off*
GODDAMIT WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR BULK THIS CHAPTER? Mario is going to have to come in to finish this...
*Both his Gligar and Flygon are finished off by Mario and Fluffy, revealing his final Pokemon to be a Gyarados*
Ok, just one more. Let’s NOT get haxed to death here please?
*Most of its HP is lost to Fluffy and Mario’s combined assault, but it strikes back with Hyper Beam, KOing Fluffy.*
Well Fluffy needed the EXP the least anyway... Mario should finish it off well before it can fire off another attack so Klepto is coming in to get experience. If only Omega or Voice survived they could have it but noooooo, they had to get smushed by multiple Earthquakes!
*Mario finishes it off, giving me the victory!*
Alright, there we go! Now I think I’m ready for whatever’s next.
So, let’s see where this D-Disk takes us shall we?
*As soon as I enter The Under I get another email, this time from Bitt who saw some weird dude in the Under singing about a new Colosseum*
Hmm let’s see what this picture is...
*It’s Miror. B going down on the UFO*
.... FUCK. I have to fight him again, don’t I?
*I resignedly insert the D-Disk into the console and head on down to wherever Miror. B. went*
Alright, let’s see where this takes us. If Miror B.’s there though I’m not sure I want to know...
*It drops us off into a room full of machinery... with one of the strangest items I’ve ever seen in a video game lying on the ground.*
Steel Teeth? What the fuck? False teeth... MADE OF FUCKIN’ STEEL. Is fucking Jaws down here? I... I just don’t know what to do with this. I’m still amazed I even TOUCHED them.
*I walk forward and open up a massive door...*
Well that’s intimidating. Let’s see what’s through here shall we?
*It’s a Colosseum registration area! With walls made of dirt*
This Colosseum isn’t going to be very swanky is it?
*It’s called the Deep Colosseum apparently. So yeah I enter*
Let’s see what this place is like
*There’s an enormous fan over top of the Colosseum, with a low series of ceilings with many concrete columns and pipes*
So basically it’s the world’s deepest parking garage. Nice.
*The first trainer is easy-peasy*
But they were all 60+ in level, so I don’t expect it to stay easy-peasy. Anyway, next?
*This one would’ve been easier had they just hit Voice with STAB earlier in the match, but was fairly easy nonetheless*
Seriously, it’s really starting to annoy me. It’s like they KNOW about his restrictions.
*Third battle is also easy, and also doesn’t have them attack Voice until the final turn*
I’m telling you, THEY KNOW!
*Next up is... GASP! MIROR B.!*
Aw no please none of his music.
*None of his music. High level Pokemon instead!*
Ok now I’m wishing for the music again.
*He’s actually surprisingly easy and I beat him without losing any Pokemon*
Oh, well ok then! For my reward I get over 20 grand (holy crap) and TM 12 Taunt, which I won’t be using. Still, damn! That’s a lot of cash.
*Immediately after I’m given my prize I get another email*
Oh what now.
*It’s Nett informing of some character down here who goes by the name of the “Deep King”*
... For real? That’s what this guy goes by? Couldn’t he have come up with something a little more creative, or maybe just a tad less corny? Ah whatever, let’s just keep challenging everything down here until we get to him.
*I enter again and have another easy battle*
Damn after Mt. Battle this is a cakewalk. And the Pokemon here are actually higher leveled... guess the strategies on Mt. Battle were just better.
*battle #2 is more of the same*
Cmon you’re boring me! Though after the frustration I had to endure at Mt. Battle it’s kind of an improvement.
*Next battle has a Medicham destroy Omega, Mario and even Klepto due to its coverage*
Oh, there’s the annoyance I was expecting...
*The final opponent is none other than Dakim!*
Oh lord I’m going to have to fight all 4 of them again aren’t I.
*he leads with a Solrock and Claydol, much to my annoyance*
WELP Omega won’t be participating for a bit. I’ll swap to DR.PROTECT so I can then bring in Voice... and if they do anything funny like explode DR.PROTECT can take it.
*Nope, just EQ spam. What a surprise. Obviously, DR.PROTECT is utterly wrecked.*
Alright, Voice will have a much easier time. Just take one Earthquake while putting up rain and BAM! Instant ownage.
*errrr for some reason he uses X Accuracy on both his Pokemon*
Ok what is that supposed to do?
*Well I don’t find out the next turn because they both hit themselves in confusion*
Alrighty then... at this rate the rain is going to disappear before I even get to fire a Surf off.
*no, finally Claydol uses Earthquake for some minor damage on Voice, while Solrock hits itself in confusion*
Alright, double KO time!
*indeed a double KO is scored, and a Flygon and a Swampert come out to replace them. The Flygon is confused as soon as it comes out*
Alright, while Voice can’t KO them due to restrictions I don’t think Surf WILL KO either of them, so I’m going to do that to weaken them while Klepto confuses the Swampert.
*Nope, no confusing Swamptert as poor Klepto is nailed by a critical Earthquake and Swampert uses Protect. Surf does decent damage to Flygon but not nearly enough to KO, as I had planned*
Well that’s annoying... anyway, Fluffy is best for this next part I think thanks to her immunity to Earthquake. She should be able to KO that Flygon with Dragon Breath. Now... Voice is going to stay in for this turn, but I’ll have to consider switching afterwards. This is a real battle; I can’t be thinking too much about EXP distribution.
*Fluffy’s Dragon Breath does indeed finish off Flygon, who is replaced by a Houndoom. Screech hits Swampert, who goes for an Earthquake clearly expecting Flygon to still be in, but instead it hits Houndoom, OHKOing it*
BAHAHAHAHA ok that was epic! You’d think I had planned that! Just Swampert left, and I think I know just who to use on a Swampert with lowered defenses...
*I switch out Fluffy for Omega and heal Voice to take the incoming earthquake. Omega gets hit far harder than I expected on the switch in though*
Damn, he might not be able to take two of those. Cross Chop had better hit...
*Thankfully it does and even scores a critical hit, easily OHKOing the Swampert.*
Hell yeah! Down with Dakim again! He’s easily the nastiest of the Cipher Admins, so that’s a pretty big relief. I’m glad he’s out of the way now. Anyway, I get another truckload of cash and TM 48 Skill Swap for my trouble... not that I’ll be using Skill Swap, like, ever. Oh, also another email about the Deep King that’s practically reiterating what the last email said. I guess those don’t cost anything to send, eh Nett?
Alright, time for another go at this. So far the battles have been in the order I encountered them in the story, so I’m guessing Venus will be at the end of this next tournament. Let’s get going shall we?
*The first battle is easy and shows a new strategy; a Machoke that uses Toxic on its ally (an Ursaring) to activate Guts. It doens’t matter much though, because the Ursaring gets OHKO’d before it can do anything.*
Well another easy start. I’m starting to wonder if they’re trying to lull me into a false sense of security...
*Next battle has a bunch of opponents that try to use the Defense Curl and Rollout combo. It doesn’t work well for them*
NEEEEEEEEXT!
*3rd battle is just as easy*
Alright, now things get real! Venus is up next!
*She leads with a Meganuim and a Blissey.*
Heh I’m leading with Omega... that Blissey ain’t stickin’ around long. Also, I want Mario to get some EXP so in he switches.
*Meganium attracts Omega, much to my annoyance. Mario gets in clean though, as Blissey is smushed before it can really do anything, being replaced by a Raichu*
Alright, I’m going to switch Omega out for Klepto now. This is to combat their strategy, which I’m seeing take form already...
*I have Mario use Psybeam on Raichu for heavy damage... and then exactly as I expected it uses Thunder Wave on Klepto, paralyzing him and itself as well*
Hahaha! Knew it! Alright, I have to use Snatch first but after that I’m using Toxic on this Meganuim. In the meantime, that Raichu is going down.
*Raichu is replaced by Dusclops, and Meganuim uses Attract on Mario, much to my annoyance*
Bah, that’s no fun. That Dusclops needs to go... MURDER IT WITH FIR- err... PSYCHIC POWERS!
*Mario manages to blast the Dusclops through his attraction, but gets confused and hit with Leech Seed for his trouble. At least the Meganuim gets hit by Toxic as planned*
Gah, I’m going to have to switch him out. There are too many things on him at once. Shame, he really needs the exp... let’s see... Fluffy will be ideal for this with Refresh and being female to avoid attract.
*The Meganium gets healed with a Full Restore before it can get hurt by Toxic, and Klepto confuses the Dusclops after Fluffy gets hit by a critical Shadow Punch for fairly minor damage*
Alright, I’m bringing back in Mario so HOPEFULLY he can get a Faint Counter from the Dusclops. Meanwhile, that Meganium is being poisoned again goddammit!
*Now Klepto gets attracted and is unable to move. Thankfully, the Dusclops is male and tried to Attract Fluffy... but failed on Mario instead!*
Well that was a nice surprise. Shame Klepto still hasn’t gotten off that goddamn Toxic. At least Mario’s getting back a faint counter!
*Her final Pokemon is revealed to be Milotic, and Klepto is Fully Paralyzed once again as Mario is Attracted once again.*
Annoying... Please just kill that thing.
*NOPE immobilized by love, then confused, then seeded, but at least Klepto finally landed that Toxic on Meganium.*
Ok Mario, come back again... you’re not going to be doing much good in that state. Omega has the best chance of doing massive damage to these two so he’s coming in next.
*Suddenly they both go on the offensive with Hydro Pump and Giga Drain. Thankfully, Hydro Pump misses leaving Giga Drain to do negligible damage*
*sigh* That Meganium isn’t going anywhere fast with all the healing it’s getting. I didn’t mention it before, but it got Ingrain in on the first turn as well. Toxic will take care of it eventually should it come to that though. But right now, my focus is on murdering that Milotic, as it is much more threatening with that Hydro Pump of hers. Hopefully these two can manage to hit her...
*They both use Attract on Omega, and both my Pokemon are immobilized, meaning the only that changed was Meganuim took some more Toxic damage*
Least eventful turn ever. Anyway, let’s try again now...
*Now Omega gets confused, though at least he avoids the Leech Seed. He is immobilized once again, but this time Klepto gets off the Confuse Ray at least.*
Alright, that’s an improvement. Now... can you PLEASE hit that Milotic this time?
*He finally scores a hit on her, taking out most of her health. He also gets seeded though, but at least Klepto manages to confuse Meganuim too.*
Alright, I’m going to switch him out now. His high HP is helping Meganium too much thanks to Leech Seed and Giga Drain. Mario is making yet another appearance!
*Milotic misses with Hydro Pump and Meganuim hits itself in confusion, putting Mario in perfect position to KO Milotic and with Meganium set to succumb to Toxic*
Jeeze this was a drawn out fight. At least it’s over after this turn...
*The battle is won! Finally.*
Well that was probably the longest doubles battle in the history of the planet. Anyway, for that I got more money and another useless TM! (TM 44 Rest). Also, another email from Nett telling me the Deep King uses a Shadow Shuckle!
But I don’t think we’ll be battling him just yet, as Ein has yet to show his face. Guess who we’ll probably be fighting next.
*First battle is as easy as all the other first battles*
Alright, keep it moving and let me get to Ein all the faster will yah?
*Mario gets critted and OHKO’d by a paralysis boosted Smelling Salt in the very next battle*
... Ok that was just bullshit.
*the next battle is easier, meaning nothing got KO’d*
Next up, Ein! Let’s see what he’s got...
*He leads with a Manectric and a Mantine. I lead with Mario and Omega*
That Mantine is going to be annoying... well it’s easier to take out the Manectric so let’s do that first.
*he uses an X-Speed on both his Pokemon, only to have Manectric completely slaughtered immediately afterwards. It is replaced by a much less threatening Rhydon*
Alright, now I’ll deal with that Mantine...
*Mantine uses Rain dance but dies immediately afterwards due to Cross Chop critting it. A Crobat replaces it and the Rhydon goes straight to using Earthquake, which does massive damage to both Omega and Mario much to my shock and horror*
Wow that’s not good. So much for being less threatening. Errr... well I guess I’ll have Omega KO the Rhydon and Mario KO the Crobat. Here’s hoping it works out...
*The Crobat hangs on by a hair, confusing Mario. The Rhydon also hangs on, KOing Mario and Omega in one shot*
Shiiiiiiiiit! And there goes all Mario’s faint counters! Alright, DR.PROTECT and Voice are coming out next, since Voice should wreck shit up in this rain as soon as he gets hit. If DR.PROTECT goes down... well, it’s no big loss.
*Voice is confused AND hit by Earthquake, which is unfortunate because I only wanted one or the other to happen. DR.PROTECT doesn’t stand a chance even with Reflect up and quickly faints to the Earthquake. He is replaced by Klepto.*
The good news is that that Earthquake barely scratched Voice thanks to Reflect. Now I just have to hope he doesn’t hit himself...
*he hits himself, allowing Earthquake to get him that much closer to death*
Oh cmon now, don’t you dare do that again!
*Yeah guess what. And of course Rhydon doesn’t hit itself, that’d be too easy. So, Voice goes down.*
God fucking DAMN this haxy bullshit! I’m down to two Pokemon! I... goddamn this. Seriously.
*Fluffy comes out and finishes off the Rhydon despite getting confused by Crobat (who also refuses to hit itself in confusion). It is replaced by a Gyarados who is also confused as soon as it hits the field*
But it will almost assuredly not hit itself, whereas I assuredly will. I fucking hate hax and it hates me back.
*Crobat fails to hit itself AGAIN, but thankfully so does Fluffy, and Crobat’s Bite doesn’t do a lot. Gyarados is poisoned by Klepto but yes, it also fails to hit itself and instead uses Rain Dance*
GOD DAMN IT HIT YOURSELF ALREADY YOU STUPID CROBAT!
*it finally does, KOing itself in the process after 4 turns of acting like it wasn’t confused at all. Fluffy avoids falling victim herself for a third turn in a row, whereas Gyarados is not so lucky.*
Oh my word. Are the hax gods finally answering my prayers?
*hahahaha no, she hits herself in confusion next turn and Gyarados hits Klepto with Hydro Pump. Thankfully Gyarados’ Special Attack is shit.*
Well Toxic will finish it off no matter what happens this turn... thank god. This is too close for comfort.
*no need to let Toxic do it though, as Fluffy snaps out of confusion and finishes it off instead.*
Well, that was ridiculously close! Let’s see what TM I get this time.
*TM 02, Dragon Claw! And another email, telling me the Deep King is next!*
Hmm Dragon Claw or Dragon Breath... a little more power vs. paralysis chance... I think... yes I’ll go with Dragon Claw. Paralysis isn’t really much help for my team anyway, and I’d usually rather have Toxic or Sleep affect my opponents instead.
Alright, now to do what you’ve all been waiting for! I’m going back to Realgam Tower to catch all those Shadow Pokemon I missed!
.
.
.
What, the Deep King? Eh, he’ll keep. Besides, I expect he’s the strongest trainer in the game and he’ll make a good finale. The delay has nothing to do with fear he’ll beat me after nearly losing the last fight. Nothing at all, nope.
*I make the trip to Realgam and step into the elevator, ready to get this battle ON. I also find it’s like the Pokemon League in the normal games, because everyone acts like it’s your first time.*
Only here, it makes even less sense. Nascour, you were arrested damnit! This makes no sense!
*Anyway, I do the first battle and catch me a Shadow Miltank*
Alright, one down, like... 4 or something to go.
*I catch a Shadow Absol on the next one, only to have my Wii suddenly freeze*
.... What. What just happened. This has not happened before. What.
.
.
.
I have to catch those two again now don’t I. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
*I reboot and then recatch the damn Miltank... and then accidentally KO the Shadow Absol when Quick Claw activates, causing DR.PROTECT to go use Flamethrower before Voice could use Rain Dance*
Fucking thing, why’d it freeze? Why’d Quick Claw activate? I’ll tell you why; this. Game. Fucking. HATES. ME!
*I decide to keep going and try again with another challenge*
I figured I might have to do it more than once anyway...
*So next up is a Houndoom which I finally catch despite its best efforts to kill itself using Shadow Rush*
Please... I just want the torture to end.
*And now I accidentally KO the Shadow Tropius. This time I was just being stupid*
Well I was already going to do this twice anyway...
*now I beat Nascour, whose Shadow Metagross I already caught*
More rough than he should’ve been due to hax, but whatever. Now for Evice and his Tyranitar! And why is this cutscene playing out exactly the same way it did before? I think the space time continuum just gave up and died.
*Evice’s Pokemon are actually high enough level to hurt me, so I try to play smart*
If I lose to him now, I will be incredibly embarrassed.
*Well I do lose about half my team getting him down to just Tyranitar*
Goddamn him and his boosting moves, he is so much more dangerous than others are at his level.
Now to see if I can actually catch this thing without incident....
*It actually goes rather smoothly thankfully*
Whew, that could’ve been a lot nastier. Now to go through it again and get the two I missed... joy.
*I wait through the longass ending, the even longer-ass credits and then the longass trip back*
I’m sick (literally) and tired and want to go to bed damn it! STOP IIIIT!
*This time I do catch the Shadow Absol*
Alright, just one more to go here...
*The Shadow Tropius is also easily captured, since this time I didn’t accidentally nail it with flamethrower*
What do you know, leafy dinosaurs survive longer when they’re NOT lit on fire. Anyway, let’s just finish off Nascour and Evice and get to that “Deep King” and finish this.
*this time I focus less on experience and more on kicking ass, so it goes a lot more smoothly as I actually use Pokemon that are helpful and switch when it’s a good idea*
Good god it’s nice knowing the end of the game is so close and I can just screw experience distribution. Alright, now it is time for the final event! It’s time to take on the Deep Colosseum one more time!
But first... let’s find who the owner of these Steel Teeth are shall we? I... don’t want to hold onto them anymore.
*after much searching around The Under, I finally find an old man to give them to in front of the herbal medicine shop*
About time. What he gives me had better be worth it... an L-Disk? Wait, there’s more stuff to explore around here? I thought I was done...
*actually it just leads to a small platform with an Amulet Coin*
Oh ok, that’s fine then. Though, it’s a little late to be getting the Amulet Coin isn’t it? I mean I’m pretty much done the entire game already...
*Anyway, I enter the tournament with Mario and Omega leading, all my Pokemon at level 66*
Here goes nothing...
*The first battle is easy, being against unevolved Pokemon*
Yeah it won’t stay like this will it...
*Second battle is almost as easy*
Waiting for the difficulty to crank up....
*Semi-finals still easy*
Well now we’re up to the Deep King, so the buck stops here I’m sure.
*And then there were fully evolved level 68s and 70s. A Skarmory and a Kingdra, to be exact*
WELP Omega’s not staying in. I’m thinking Fluffy for this. Mario is going to set up a Reflect in the meantime.
*Kingdra misses with Hydro Pump, while Skarmory weakly hits Fluffy with Steel Wing as she switches in*
Alright that went well. First, that Kingdra needs to go down. Dragon Claw + Psybeam = DEAD.
*Oh yeah, dead as disco. It’s replaced by a lv 68 Sabeleye*
Alright, that Skarmory is just going to be a pain so DR.PROTECT needs to come in. Meanwhile, Fluffy can handle that Sableye.
*Dragon Claw is a 2HKO on Sableye, but it confuses DR.PROTECT as she comes in. Steel wing hits DR.PROTECT for laughable damage.*
Good this is actually shaping up pretty well so far. Light Screen and another Dragon Claw... hopefully DR.PROTECT doesn’t get haxed too badly.
*Sableye is taken down, but DR.PROTECT is haxed by confusion, while Skarmory’s Steel Wing raises its Defense. Sableye is replaced by a Shedinja. I just had to open my big fat mouth.*
Well Fluffy can’t hurt the Skarmory, so Fly on the Shedinja it is then. Now DR.PROTECT please get your screens up?
*Shedinja uses Dig while DR.PROTECT hits himself in confusion yet again. Skarmory misses with Steel wing but the prospect of Dig makes it pretty clear DR.PROTECT is going to have to be getting out of here.*
Dang hax... ah well... let’s see... Fly WILL miss thanks to Dig. Kletpo can deal with Shedinja with Confuse Ray... but I would like Reflect up again... Don’t want to risk Mario getting KO’d though. Alright fine, Klepto, come on out!
*Steel Wing and Dig hit Fluffy and Klepto for relatively minor damage, but I’m still annoyed by the lack of progress*
Fluffy is getting worn down... I need to do something about this. I’ll switch her out for Mario I guess, while I confuse that Shedinja.
*Skarmory thankfully misses Mario with Steel Wing, but Shedinja nails Klepto HARD with Silver Wind, raising all its stats*
Of course its stats would be raised, why the hell not. Goddamit, get that Reflect up Mario and get out Klepto! DR.PROTECT is getting another shot at this.
*Reflect allows Mario to easily tank a Steel Wing, and thankfully Shedinja takes itself out in confusion. It is replaced by a Girafarig soon after*
Alright, now things are looking up again. Put Light Screen up DR.PROTECT. Mario should 2HKO that Girafarig with Return.
*Quick Claw activates, getting Light Screen up immediately. Return, however, is not a 2HKO and Girafarig sets up its own Light Screen as Mario gets hit again by Steel wing*
Gah I’ve had enough of that damn Steel Wing. DR.PROTECT can attack it now, though with that Light Screen... ah whatever. Mario needs to heal with Morning Sun in the meantime.
*Mario is pounded by a Return from Girafarig and a Steel Wing from Skarmory after he heals himself, bringing him back to where he was before using Morning Sun. Skarmory survives the Flamethrower with around 30% of its health remaining.*
Ok, I’m bringing in Omega now. Mario can’t really do much to these two... that Skarmory should be finished off this turn though.
*Omega tanks the Steel wing and Return, taking around 1/3 of his health total. Skarmory is KO’d finally, being replaced by the Shadow Shuckle*
Aha! Alright, so just his Girafarig and the Shuckle now right? Well Light Screen is up so it SHOULD be able to take a Flamethrower from DR.PROTECT. Omega, in the meantime, is going to Cross Chop that Girafarig into oblivion (not Brick Break, as I don’t want to get rid of that Light Screen just yet!)
*Omega is critted by Psychic before he can do anything, much to my dismay. I have Voice come out to replace him as he’s the only one at full health. The Shuckle easily survives the Flamethrower but is burned in the process. It then does 2 damage to Voice with Shadow Rush.*
Damn crit, I’m sure he could’ve taken one without being KO’d if not for that. And LOL at 2 damage. Anyway, I need to catch that Shuckle before it dies now. Thankfully, it’s part bug so Net balls should catch it fast. In the mean time, Voice is Screeching then murdering that damn Girafarig.
*My very first Net Ball snags Shuckle and Girafarig pulls Thunder Bolt out of its ass and blasts Voice as my Light Screen dissipates*
Fuck this, Voice can’t stay in... Well, Girafarig’s defense is lowered now, so I guess Mario can come in and KO it with Return... but he’s low health... hmmm, I might have to sack Voice here.
*Voice actually manages to take a second Thunderbolt, but I do get a Reflect up and heal Mario.*
Alright guess I’ll have to bring Mario in on an attack. He should be able to take it though, and that Screech should ensure his Return KOs that Girafarig.
*Quick Claw activates again on DR.PROTECT, allowing him to get Light Screen up before Thunderbolt hits Mario for minor damage*
Sweeeeeeeeeet. Game over! This was so much easier than I feared it would be! Actually, kind of anti-climactic.
*Girafarig goes down and the final challenge of the game is conquered!*
Hell yeah! Who’s the king now you big ass poser? I AM BITCH! Wooooooooooooo!!!!!! I am DONE! Wait, where’s my TM? Ah whatever, I don’t give a shit, because I am SO done!
Well technically I do still have to purify all the Pokemon and get Ho-oh, but that’s REALLY damn boring so I’ll save that for a bonus update if at all. So yes, you can consider this the end of my challenge! Next up; Pokemon Black! I’ll have a post for you with the details an hour or so after I post this. Oh, and as with last time, I’ll be writing up a separate section with the MVP to LVP listings and a summary of each Pokemon’s performance! Until then though, audios!
