The Portuguese room is one of the most active communities on Pokémon Showdown!, having an average of between 130 and 160 users daily. It also has a subroom called JogosPT where you can play a lot of different games and its own forum (a bit inactive those days, but still) that will be explained below. If you don't speak Portuguese or just want to learn it, don't worry, English is allowed, and a lot of users can understand it and undoubtedly help you with the language! Oh, and we also translate articles from the Flying Press. To know more, keep reading!

As previously mentioned, the room is pretty active, full of good and helpful people. There are also a ton of room tournaments in a multitude of formats, and if you win one of those, you receive a wonderful "gz" as your prize to make your day better! Like any other room, the Portuguese room has rules. Flooding, stretching, spamming, and offending users are still bannable, as well as advertising other servers. You can post replays or other links, but please, keep those to a moderate amount.
Here, you can play a bunch of games, from bot hosted (such as kunc, pass the bomb, and hangman, among others) to manually hosted (most of them). You just need to do ~jhl to join a queue, and after that, just wait for your turn. The time limit of a game is usually 20 minutes, but there can be a few exceptions. The time between a game and another is four minutes, and it has the same rules as the main chat. You can access it by a link in the main chat's roomintro, or by sending a PM to FaustaoBot with .jogos and clicking the link.
You can do plenty of activities here, and some include playing forum minigames, hosting tournaments, showcasing your work (like draws, sprites, fanfics), talking about competitive, and even playing tic-tac-toe! Pretty amazing, huh? You can also contact the staff if you have any trouble by sending a private message to them, or just go to the Help section. You can access it just like JogosPT, and to get its link, PM ".forum" to the bot.
As stated before, we translate Flying Press articles into Portuguese for those in our community who do not understand English well or just prefer reading them in Portuguese. You can check our work here and if you're interested in helping us, send a PM or VM to Luna, the project leader.
Earning Room Voice (+) is quite simple! Just be a good presence, help others, and, of course, be active. Do that, and you will be "noticed", but keep in mind that it can take a while, so don't expect to get it in like just one week of work. If you are interested in becoming Room Voice, there is no problem with asking for some pointers; however, don't spam the chat or staff's PM to transform you in one immediately—that just stains your image.
Today, we are going to interview zdrup and Dark Kelevra (formerly darkintruder), two former Room Owners who once were Global Moderator and Global Driver, respectively, and were part of the room since its very beginning, and Andromeda Galaxy (formerly cbt venusaur), currently RO.

Can you describe how the first days of the Portuguese room were?
zdrup
The first days of the Portuguese room were pretty tight. We were a new room, trying to fit in a mostly foreign simulator that didn't see the language rooms as a priority, with almost no staff (or users xD) whatsoever. The room only worked when the two or three staff members were online because, when they weren't, spammers and trolls could pretty much do whatever they wanted and ruin everyone else's experience.
DragonLatios
For you, what's the main difference between the room in the past (when you became RO) and today?
zdrup
Well, this is quite evident, but the biggest difference is the number of users. We were happy back then when we had 15 users in the room, and that was at night time. During my last year as a RO, I was finding it weird when the room had less than 150 during those hours, and we have reached 300 users quite a few times. That brings another important difference: you can't know everyone anymore. Back then, staff knew and frequently talked to most users and even spammers of the room, and this was natural because there weren't many of us. Now I can say I don't know well more than half of the staff and only talked for a fair amount of time with a few of them.
DragonLatios
Is there anything from the room in the past that you miss today?
zdrup
What I miss the most from the past is that feeling of knowing everyone, essentially being a small group of friends, with our own jokes and conversations we knew about. Now, that's impossible; multiple conversations are happening at the same time, with tons of users in each of them and you just can't have those old conversations on open chat, having to use Skype or Discord for that.

What's your most memorable moment in the room?
zdrup
Well, there were some splendid moments throughout these years, but the most memorable one was winning PSPL. Our room wasn't the most competitively oriented one, even considering the subset of the language rooms, with the Spanish, French, and Italian rooms being more geared towards that than ours, despite the abundance of tournaments we had every day. We did have a decent run in PSPL II but some of the most competitive players of the room, including me, didn't want to play again, which made the room go with mostly unknown players (and our beloved WhiteQueen). They worked really hard for it, even ending up convincing me to join them for the knockout rounds. We then managed to eliminate some strong rooms such as RU and Ubers and were up against Spanish in the finals. We started the worst possible way, losing the first two matches, but we didn't give up and ended up turning things around to win the matchup and the tour. That win and all the cheering and happiness you could see during the matches from everyone in the room was the best thing for me in all those years.

What do you expect for the room in the future?
zdrup
Well, I resigned from my position as a RO a few months ago and haven't been active enough in the last few months, but I do think the room will have a great future. We have a lot of active users maintaining a very engaged chat, lots of tournaments, and a new partnership with one of the best competitive forums for Portuguese-speaking users to improve both the competitive and casual sides of the room. Overall, I expect the room to keep being the best place for Portuguese-speaking users to go to if they like Pokémon.
DragonLatios
I can imagine that the beginning wasn't easy; thanks for all your work and we wish the best in your life, zdrup!
DragonLatios
Can you describe how the first days of the Portuguese room were?
Dark Kelevra
Well, the first days of the Portuguese room were really calm, and by calm I mean there was nobody visiting the room, since in 2013, Showdown was growing in popularity, so we had about 15-20 users during rush hour. It had a positive effect of getting those few users acquainted more easily.
DragonLatios
For you, what's the main difference between the room in the past (when you became RO) and today?
Dark Kelevra
In every leadership, we take the room as our project and bring it to life. In the past, my goals were definitely different from what the room needs today from the leaders of the room. My main goal was to make the room as healthy and populated as possible, whereas now, that's no longer a problem. We have a decent number of staff members that work (or should work) actively to make the room attractive to new users.
DragonLatios
Is there anything from the room in the past that you miss today?
Dark Kelevra
Besides some users like Neraky, DampJellicent, zdrup, and others, I really do miss banning people for trolling purposes. It was a lot of fun and it was a way to make everyone in the room enjoy some "playing" moments between staff and users.
DragonLatios
What's your most memorable moment on the room?
Dark Kelevra
For me, it was the day I resigned. I got so much support and people asking me to not leave the staff or the room and tons of PMs wishing me the best. I saw that those 3 or 4 years weren't in vain, and that I accomplished the most important thing as a leader of any organization: respect. Though some showed exactly the opposite, it only shows that every rose has its thorn.
DragonLatios
What do you expect for the room in the future?
Dark Kelevra
I could tell you that I really want the room to keep growing as a unit and a family, but that would be lame and obvious, so I'll just tell you that my biggest hope for the room is that AndrewGoncel stops being trash.
DragonLatios
You can be sure you got respect and that a lot of people miss you. Luna is more trash than him, though...
DragonLatios
What was your first impression of the room when you joined it?
Andromeda Galaxy
Was good, it was recommended by a friend at time.
DragonLatios
How did you react when you got Room Owner?
Andromeda Galaxy
Was strange, 'cause I was happy but knew that more work would come to me. It's a big responsibility.
DragonLatios
What's your most memorable moment on the room?
Andromeda Galaxy
Winning the PSPL, no doubt.
DragonLatios
What do you expect for the room in the future?
Andromeda Galaxy
Try to bring more Lusophone people to Showdown to make the community more close and more friendly, and try to make the community and the room better every day.
DragonLatios
That's what I call a man of few words!
So that's it! Now that you know more about the Portuguese community and its history, we hope to see you there, even if you don't speak Portuguese! As said before, our staff and users will be glad to help you!
